You just have to push through and tell yourself “it will get better”….and it does. Mine are 1.5 and 3 and sleep from 8pm-6:45am and it’s amazing finally sleeping all night!
Cosleep!! It changed my life lol, my baby has been sleeping a night since he was 3 months old. Of course while they are so young, put them in one of those small football beds but in your bed! Game changer
I've followed you since you first started YT....i haven't watched your channel for over a year. Just gotta say your video's look better than ever and you're a DAD?!?!?! Holy shit man....congrats. That's one cute kid
I have mixed feelings. He could do these videos without showing his child but he is choose to show us him and tell us his name. Because he knows it's lucrative in TH-cam? I hope this trend won't be continuing. Kids deserve privacy!
Back in 2018, when I had my first child I started watching your channel to learn how to be more productive and balance my work and family. Now years later I see you doing that very thing for yourself! You are doing great! Never give up. 🤘🏻
Yes, acceptance! Acceptance helps you find things that work better, while giving you a way to feel gratitude and enjoyment in what you have ❤ everything changes with acceptance. You guys are amazing!
Girl Dad X 4 here. Great video. This will probably serve as birth control for some folks. Starting and growing a family is not for everyone and I really appreciate your raw, candid feedback on being a first time parent. Being a parent is simultaneously the hardest job I have ever had while also being the most rewarding and fulfilling job I have ever had. The days are long, but the years are short, indeed. Appreciate all of your content, Matt!
As a fencesitter, this video and this kind of statement "days are long, but the years are short" scares the shit out of me from wanting to be a parent. Do I really wanna live a life where my days are too long to bear and my years are passing by? Matt says at the end of the video: "And in the end, the sacrifice is worth it". Honestly asking, is it?
@@TheScipio3There is a fascinating article from a guy who went on to write a book about regretting having a kid and if he could go back he would not have had one. I feel like everyone says parenting is worth it and sure, it can be, but I think hearing from those who have kids and now wish they didn't is really interesting. People demonize them but I think it's just another perspective to listen to and I bet there are a lot of people who feel that way but maybe wouldn't admit.
It’s funny - I’m smiling at all of these parenting videos. Not out of schadenfreude, but out of memories of when my kids were that small. So thanks for that, Matt. You and Nat look like you are doing a great job. Frankie looks healthy and happy.
As a mom to a nearly 8 year old, 4 year old and 10 month old who hasn’t slept through the night more than two consecutive nights in a row for 8 years I cried during this video. It’s so hard to be so sleep deprived and yes it’s worth it but sometimes I wonder what kind of incredible mom I could be with more sleep
My little is over 30 yrs old and I, too, cried watching this video. I remember dreaming about getting a room at a yucky motel down the road from us and going to sleep 😂
I feel this. I had our fourth child 10 months ago and our oldest is 6. The few times I get two nights of decent sleep I am a pretty great, patient mom. I long for that all of the time but with everyone waking up at random times of the night means that I get to feel like I'm fighting for my life just to stay patient and kind. I hear it gets easier.
My second was way easier to manage the lack of sleep compared to the first. Plus, if it makes you feel better, data shows life expectancy is longer with children so…. Yeah. Sleep deprivation doesn’t matter. But also I feel like at your stage something isn’t matching up… a 10 month old should be able to go an 8 hour stretch and the other kids should sleep around 12 hours a night 🤔
The advice at the end is true. 8 hours is not an option anymore, but looking into the eyes of my child and being able to hold your whole world in your arms makes it worth it. My wife is pregnant with number 2 and I wouldn't change it for anything, but yeah buy a coffee machine.
I love that this is Matt's experience... because Nat's right. This is only half the battle of nursing mums! And I am SO pround of you two watching how you balance and support each other.
The best thing you can do is to have additional help for the things that matter less than your baby. I worked as a live in nanny and it really helped. I watched the baby some of the time, I did baby dishes and washed clothes and walked the baby in her stroller to to art class. The baby loved art class and the fresh air. You don’t need a live in nanny, but some one to do dishes, clean the bathrooms, and wash laundry helps. Congratulations on your new baby.
If anyone knows how to make a video brilliant in every way it’s Matt D’avella. From the visuals to the audio to the script itself Matt always manages to strike that balance perfectly. 👍🏼
I feel this. After nearly 6 months of extremely disrupted sleep (baby would wake sometimes every 45minutes-1hr) I truly felt I was going crazy. I hallucinated on multiple occasions. Baby also only napped for about 45 minutes at a time, so catching up during the day was not really possible. I decided to sleep train at that point. At 16 months now, we still have night wakings but it has become much better. I went into sleep training thinking it would fix everything, not knowing that it doesn't always "work". Best tip for tired parents out there is to get yourself to sleep as soon as possible after baby is asleep. It sucks not having time to yourself or with your partner, nor having date nights and such but it's the only way I have survived during this season. Shout out to all the dads helping out during the nights! Hang in there...
As a 41yo father to a 3yo, this version of Matt speaks to me so much. Unfortunately my lack of sleep is still continuing and is impacting my energy levels and enthusiasm to look for a new career path, as well as my overall anxiety. But I have been surprisingly level headed when it comes to parenting.
My mum always told me, once I turned six, I was a lot of fun to raise. Trust my mum and trust me, always keep loving your child and always keep trying to keep them both safe, and loved. You will never get that sleep back, but you'll have a person you'll adore for the rest of your life, and that person, will have two people he will always look up to.
Man, didn't think I could relate to Matt more, but then he became a parent lmao. Matt - if you read this, hope you're doing well. Also thanks for the TH-cam course. Just blew past 27k subs. cheers
Thank you so much for this video. 4 years in with 2 amazing kids now, and I can't tell you how refreshing it is to hear somebody in your space speak up about this! Also... it does get better after about 2 years 🙂
I on average have slept 6 hours each night for the past 20 years, but I have five kids and work very long hours in a professional career, self-employed, I am now sick from a stress-related illness, so there is merit to what you are saying about 8 hours being best practice. I think these days both parents work together much better than we did in my day, I got up to every feed, nappy change, all of it, on my own. I can remember feeling like a Zombie for months at a time, especially the newborn faze.

A friend of mine hasn’t had a proper night sleep in the last 3 years, she’s having low tension issues, is taking anti antidepressants… it’s definitely taking its toll on her health. It’s definitely no joke ! I consider myself lucky compared to her !
Don't worry guys ! It gets better 🌟 now even with a 1month old and a 2year old, most nights I get a 6 hour lap of sleep nights , first child is always the hardest on sleep deprivation 😅
@@HereDiianas well, not the first that I know of and definitely everything was find on his monthly checkup last week, he actually gained 1.4kg on a month, when you are breastfeeding on demand you are only supposed to wake them when they are underweight and only the first 6weeks, he is 7weeks so I would gladly let him sleep
We just had our first baby 6 days ago and this is great advice !! Thank you so much Matt! Btw your soothing voice in this video helped put our little Riley to sleep after being fussy for an hour 🙏
Congrats on the baby! I have a 5 year old and 2 year old. With both of them, it was VERY HARD to get even 6 hours of sleep. But...it's very temporary and feels like it goes fast. After that, it gets easier to sleep but harder to parent, lol.

This video was hilarious! Loved it, as always. Squarespace can be happy: these last two videos are among the few ones I truly enjoyed watching sponsored ad without fast forwarding. Master piece! 😆
I really undervalued the importance of a good night sleep. As I'm watching this video I slept 7h , worked out and ate a healthy meal and I'm truly feeling super energised. Hopefully you and nat can find more time to rest. Thanks for this video
Congrats for little Frankie and for becoming parents with Nathalie. A whole new adventure for you 3. I am really glad parenthood is now part of your content as I became a father too not long ago. I can’t wait to see the rest of your journey and experiments in this new reality. I am sure it will be refreshing and helpful.
I feel you on the no sleep thing. My youngest wouldn't sleep in their crib and I ended up sleeping in an over stuffed recliner for the first several months holding them. Over a decade later and I'm certain that I'm still sleep deprived from that time.
The peanut butter scene was brilliant. I have a 3 month old and feel you guys. Solidarity. When my oldest two were a toddler and baby (22 months apart), that was pretty tough too because my toddler struggled to fall asleep, while our baby slept better than the oldest, but obviously had to get some feeding times in the middle of the night while we were starting to potty train the oldest who needed to make bathroom trips. My second slept the best out of my three babies, but this one is not too bad! The first was definitely my worst sleeper until he was 3. Hang in there!
It gets better! I promise! The first year is rough. But my kids have turned me into a morning person and more productive. I get a lot more done in the little amount of time I have now.
I have to say that i always enjoy the sponsored part of your videos and never skip them, they are always very fun and creative and also related to the video! Great job and hope you can both sleep a little more now
I've been questioning if kids are in my future and this is definitely pushing me into the child-free camp haha. Sleep is the one thing I refuse to compromise on.
You usually hear people talk about how delightful, heavenly and lovely it is becoming a parent until the dark side suddenly knocks on your door, and you begin to question whether sleep was a faded dream all along Curious to see how you will balance minimalism on this life long journey. Much love from Norway to ye both
Wow, what a production :). You are a master storyteller. Great humor, great rhythm. I was dying laughing. And at the same time a serious topic, solving a big problem... Thank you for this masterpiece :).
Matt we became first time parents in february and you hit the nail on the head - life is different now. Sleep training was the biggeat hack for us. In less than a week we had a 5 month old that could sleep 10hrs straight. Going on 8 months old nothing has changed!
It gets better Matt! The first 4 months were the hardest for me. Month 3, I felt like I was going to cry. We did Taking Cara Babies, and it made everything a bit better. My son is now 3 1/2 and he's a great sleeper. My sleep is better than ever. I know not all kids sleep though the night, but it does 100% get easier with time.
That newborn phase sleep deprivation is easily one of the scariest things that comes up when I think about having a second baby. I’m glad someone has actually quantified the difference between sleep before & after having a baby. I have a 9-month-old and I truly wish I’d started to really understand the best ways to manage my baby’s sleep BEFORE the 4-6 month “it’s okay to sleep train now” age. And the SNOO is amazing! I hope it will help in the coming months to get some much needed consolidated sleep for all of you. ❤
My second was way easier to deal with the lack of sleep. I feel like the hormone changes for mom and dad for the first are way wackier for the first kid and makes sleeping hard.
The good news is it gets better! My son is almost 1. The first weeks and months was definitely the hard time. Structure, consistency and a good schedule is your best friend.
hello, did you get a sleep regression at around 12 months? I hope not but I did and kind of made me feel disheartened as things were going so much better with my baby. He is 14 months now and sleep is a lot worse
That was fun! Thank you for making such a heavy topic light. I have one year old twins and have lost track of half each day since they were born. Keep up the good work!
Really needed to see this as a mom of twin girls. My husband hallucinated about babyheads everywhere, at one point I thought he put a baby in my arms while I was asleep (turned out I was holding my pillow against me. Sadly, we couldn't split up, because we had 2 babies. I got a very bad postnatal depression and we reached out for help. Luckily the nicest people wanted to help out, even during nighttime. I hope your son will sleep through the nights in a while❤ he's so cute.
I was having a conversation with Nat the other night and she literally fell asleep while I was talking to her haha. Sorry you had such a difficult time. Glad you were able to get the support you needed.
I'm a twin mum too and I had loads of hallucinations too! I also found that I'd fall asleep everywhere and anywhere (attached to a pump in the middle of the night, on the toilet, etc).
I feel you, Matt. When my daughter was born, for the first 3 months, I lay flat on the hard floor with her sleeping on top of me as it was the only thing that worked. But it meant I got no sleep and had to stay perfectly still. Even with sleep training, it was nearly 2 years before things got to 'normal'. Best of luck.
Funny how life goes. Unsubscribed because content did not fit my dad life anymore. Now I subscribed because it's getting back into my world. Welcome to parent hood😊
I was so nervous to watch this. I ended up taking off my fitness tracker when my first baby was an infant because I was stressed out by the horrible sleep graphs! Now I’m 4 months pregnant with number 2 and I am freaking anxious about the upcoming struggle.
We did the exact same thing a few weeks in of our baby’s life. We took it in shifts and slept in separate bedrooms until he was sleeping through the night. Game changer.
I’m a mom of four! For us the first year is the hardest- with good sleep routines all four of my kids sleep in their beds all night. Sending hugs as u navigate the hardest part!
Frankie is adorable. My youngest is now 6 and I still remember the sleepless nights with a strong dose of cringe. It is brutal. Sounds like the family is getting into a rhythm which is great.
My husband and I worked out a schedule that helped us both. He went to bed early while I stayed up with our baby for the last feeding and put him into the crib. Then around midnight my husband woke up and gave the baby a bottle. I slept through until 4 am for a feeding. I fell back to sleep for a few hours after that so we both got about 8 hours of sleep.
Im watching this past 1am while feeding a 2 week old. Having a baby is literal torture. On top of the sleep deprivation, as a mother, also add in the pain of physical recovery, and struggles of breastfeeding.
My son was born on exactly the same day as yours (judging by your sleep data) 😅 oddly enough we have the same exact sleep issues with him too. Watched this with my wife today and couldn’t help but smile knowing that we are not alone. Hang in there
Would love a video on how to prioritize things/not feel guilty for de-prioritizing other things. I have a really bad habit of over committing myself and not knowing my limits 🥲
FML dude I’ve got a 17 month old and another on the way. Knowing how important sleep is actually kind of makes the whole thing more stressful. Because I viscerally understand the toll this is taking on my body and my mind.

It gets better! I promise! The first year is rough. But my kids have turned me into a morning person and more productive. I get a lot more done in the little amount of time I have now.
I am happy everytime I see Frankie. Good luck to you.
I was not on your channel for more than a year and when i get back you have a baby! , congratulations!
That smile when Matthew McConaughey starts talking had me LOL. 🤣
I have to say that i always enjoy the sponsored part of your videos and never skip them, they are always very fun and creative and also related to the video!
Great job and hope you can both sleep a little more now
Love this dad content. Soon to be new dad checking in here, need all the productivity hacks I can get
I've been questioning if kids are in my future and this is definitely pushing me into the child-free camp haha. Sleep is the one thing I refuse to compromise on.
Welcome! 😂
Living the dad content! Invaluable since I aspire to be a dad in a few years
You usually hear people talk about how delightful, heavenly and lovely it is becoming a parent
until the dark side suddenly knocks on your door, and you begin to question whether sleep was a faded dream all along
Curious to see how you will balance minimalism on this life long journey.
Much love from Norway to ye both
Wow, what a production :). You are a master storyteller. Great humor, great rhythm. I was dying laughing. And at the same time a serious topic, solving a big problem... Thank you for this masterpiece :).
Can we all just take a moment to acknowledge how ADORABLE Frankie is??? What a gorgeous baby!
Matt we became first time parents in february and you hit the nail on the head - life is different now.
Sleep training was the biggeat hack for us. In less than a week we had a 5 month old that could sleep 10hrs straight. Going on 8 months old nothing has changed!
did you use dr weissbluth's method?
his approach
saved my life. sleep deprivation is *no joke*
Your analysis is unreallll. Love this one Matt!
Omg. The production quality is crazy!
what a great video! 😀 thanks Matt!
@@caterinas6863 we have not, best of luck!
I really like your wife - she has this unique vibe :)
That was fun! Thank you for making such a heavy topic light. I have one year old twins and have lost track of half each day since they were born. Keep up the good work!
Hola! Hagan más videos sobre cómo le han hecho con su bebé! Hace poco también fuimos papás y me encanta ver los videos que hacen sobre su nuevo bebé
Informative and so entertaining, thanks for the insight 😊
Congrats on your son! My oldest is 17 now. Goes by quick, amigo! Enjoy it!
I usually skip past advertisements but I got to say, your squarespace ad was hilarious.
hahah! I loved the squarespace ad, really creative and funny!
Having a baby made your content much much better! Not like it needed it tho. But I am enjoying it even more now.
Watching this at 6am. After been unable to get back to sleep. With a new born.
This video hit close to home #needmoresleep
I feel you, Matt. When my daughter was born, for the first 3 months, I lay flat on the hard floor with her sleeping on top of me as it was the only thing that worked. But it meant I got no sleep and had to stay perfectly still. Even with sleep training, it was nearly 2 years before things got to 'normal'. Best of luck.
Funny how life goes. Unsubscribed because content did not fit my dad life anymore. Now I subscribed because it's getting back into my world. Welcome to parent hood😊
I’ve been waiting for you to do your videos since having a baby!!!
Awesome video, Matt! Just loved the slow motion b-rolls ✌😄
When the sponsor segment is unskippable you know you're doing something right.
I was so nervous to watch this. I ended up taking off my fitness tracker when my first baby was an infant because I was stressed out by the horrible sleep graphs! Now I’m 4 months pregnant with number 2 and I am freaking anxious about the upcoming struggle.
Love this one. Would be great to see Nat's sleep data - especially quality of sleep v hours of sleep.
Loved the Squarespace/AI reference/throwback to an older video!
We did the exact same thing a few weeks in of our baby’s life. We took it in shifts and slept in separate bedrooms until he was sleeping through the night. Game changer.
Brilliant sponsor ad break! Squarespace being a long time supporter, I'm always impressed of how creative the ads are, but this one was fantastic!😄
Welcome to the club, Matt) I’ve twins😊 how I understand you! But you’re a great parents ) and that’s all worth it
OMG! Matt, you had me laughing out loud! Such a great video!! 🤣
Im watching this past 1am while feeding a 2 week old. Having a baby is literal torture. On top of the sleep deprivation, as a mother, also add in the pain of physical recovery, and struggles of breastfeeding.
Alaways manages to make me laugh, glad i've been following you for a while now, keep it up !
Your videos are hilarious Matt!!!!!!! How do you come up with this type of sarcastic subtle comedy?
My son was born on exactly the same day as yours (judging by your sleep data) 😅 oddly enough we have the same exact sleep issues with him too. Watched this with my wife today and couldn’t help but smile knowing that we are not alone. Hang in there
Would love a video on how to prioritize things/not feel guilty for de-prioritizing other things. I have a really bad habit of over committing myself and not knowing my limits 🥲
so cool! it looks a mix between a short film, a documentary and a vlog!
Congrats, guys - happy for you both!
2:11 unreal line
FML dude I’ve got a 17 month old and another on the way. Knowing how important sleep is actually kind of makes the whole thing more stressful. Because I viscerally understand the toll this is taking on my body and my mind.
