This is literally the most accurate depiction of a bully. Not a bad kid, just taught he can get away with everything, and he suffered the consequences of his horrible parents actions. You definitely know who did and did not get bullied when the parents were in school
In the companion novel Julian spends time with his grandmother and realizes he's in the wrong, and funnily enough even the mother wants to drop the issue which shocks him.
I had a bully who's dad was a firefighter with my Uncle in the same department. My Uncle wasn't a fan of his dad. Of course I didn't understand at the time that bullying falls back on the parents first as it's either taught or uncorrected
this is what really pisses me off the most. Parents making excuses and blaming on the other kid instead of their own Child. Actually, in the sequel to Wonder, Julian gets a POV where he just kinda breaks down in guilt. It was a really sad moment and I’d recommend getting the book to read it
Poor Julian he actually felt shame and remorse for what he did, I think in his heart he wanted to fix things and make things right again but he was worried about what his parents would think of him. I also feel that he didn’t know how to fix things. I don’t think he was a bad kid just a kid with incompetent role models who influenced his poor choices

There’s really not much the Democrats and Republicans have a lot involvement in school, there is no proof that Conservative kids are being expelled more than liberals, nor more liberals than Conservative. And Democrats have done little with school, only just increase funding for schools rather than reform the actual school system. So please for both of you, argue with reason, this is the exact reason why I’m an Independent
As a teacher myself, I hate bullying and I don't tolerate bullying in my class, but I wish I could yell and do things I'm not allowed to do to a bully but I can't, we can't even transfer or expell a student that is being threatening to another student until something bad happens, we really need to review our policies on how to handle a bully and their parents on behalf of the bullied student and their families..
Expelling them is a surface solution. They'll just go to another school and begin their shenanigans again. But this time theyll be more angry ( because they had to go to a new schoool).
I think another issue is that his parents were a bad influence together because part of me wonders if the mother actually reflects some of the actions that both she and her son took. Kids see what their parents do and think it's OK to do the same thing when his mother treated them like the kid didn't exist by taking him out of the photos. Part of me wishes that they had another scene where the mother saw that they took his son out of the photo to kind of make her realize her actions a little bit. But I have to say I've never experienced bullying but I have experienced isolation because of both parents and children when I was little and I respect teachers to show that it's OK to be different and to make other kids realize that that's what makes the world better not be in the same
I've said this before and I'll say it again until people get it; we need to bring back the paddle. Kids don't like being in trouble. They especially don't like it when that trouble comes with pain. The Paddle? It worked then, it'll work now.
@Josh Roberts yes I was bullied in primary school and my mam told me to stand up for myself and not let them wall all over me..only trouble was I got suspended and not them

Hayden Graczyk they’re not brain dead. They just don’t think their child deserves getting punished for this so they try to act like it’s a little thing which is why she says they’re just a “couple of notes” and then tries to make it seem like a normal thing you can’t help since in the real world you get insulted all the time, and then they say they’ve done so much for the school because of the money they have along with the many friends in the school board as if they are important people that can take his job. These are all different ways of manipulation. So they seem to be somewhat smart in that regard, and not brain dead. Brain dead would be genuinely seeing nothing wrong in this whole thing and thinking their child is perfect. The parents know it’s wrong which is why the mom initially takes part of the blame in the beginning
Andrew Melendez I think at the end of this scene, he took the necessary first step to grow up and realize how screwed up the situation is that his parents are justifying his actions when they should be punishing him for it
When kids bully others, they've been bullied themselves in the past. The parents are the ones to blame for it is because they don't care if they bully others just because they were bullied in the past.
Love this scene. I actually know many sets of parents who operate like this. They think money is the answer to everything. Great that Julian realized the error of his ways and was prepared to say sorry.

What I like about Mr. Tushman is that while he disciplines Julian for the abuse he inflicted on Augie, his look of disgust as they leave is not about Julian's behaviour but about how he is troublemaker due to lousy parenting. That's why he accepts his apology, because he's sorry for the kid being stuck with foolish parents who justify his wrongdoings.
Exactly. It’s like when you hate the bully in a movie or tv show and they seem like a horrible person, but then you see them in interviews or behind the scenes stuff all nice and getting along with everyone and you’re like oh yeah, they’re not that bad in real life.
Jc Parker I hope to never see this happen to my wife or children. I don't want no one to bully my children and if that happens I want them to talk to the teacher, the principal and to me and their mother.
I love how the principal did his absolute best to understand this situation from all sides, the victim's side, the bully's side and any other sides that might have been taken into account. He did the right thing, and I love how realistic this scene is. "He can't change the way he looks, so maybe we should change the way see." One of the best quotes in this movie masterpiece.
“He’s just a kid” “they’re too young to be dealing with this sort of thing” Yeah I mean augie is also just a kid who is to young to be reviving death threats but go off I guess
The Bully in this is well done. Like a lot of people, he is fine with bullying someone (especially people online) if he doesn't see the affect on them. I hate the “it’s my child so I’ll defend them even if they’re wrong” mindset. It’s just not fair to the real victims in those scenarios. In my own school years ago someone in my year was bullied to the point of feeling physically ill and stayed home for a week. The teachers got wind of it and suspended the bully and his parents were in the same day to complain saying the other boy needed to “grow a thicker skin”. Parental love can be amazing, but blind faith and support while overlooking their own child’s faults just lets them get away with anything
@@iskender1327 its case by case, to say never on either side is just highly ignorant. To act like parents dont play a part in a good/bad child is ignorant but thinking a child wont/cant do what they want is also very ignorant.
“These kids are too young to be dealing with this sort of thing.” Look Karen, if a bunch of kindergarteners can be best friends with a girl whose arm is permanently at a 90 degree angle and covered in scars and be nice about it, a bunch of 5th graders can leave a kid who has a few scars on his face alone. I got so pissed at this scene. Like cmon if kindergarteners can be nice to kids who look different then fifth graders can too. I write from personal experience and witness, I have a friend who’s right arm is twisted and paralyzed because and I quote “a nurse messed me up”.(her exact words idk the rest of the story). Look as far as I know everyone has been pretty nice about it and if 6yos can, then 11yos can
what if in his new school there are more kids w/ deformities? i like that the other kids came around. honestly at first people can be reluctant once they got to know him they were warmer towards him
I taught middle school. When kids turned 11 or 12, they start to change drastically. They start moving into "tribes". This is the period in life where kids are trying to make a name for themselves in middle school. Unfortunately, that involves a level of bullying other kids, or clowning them for the clothes they wear, or how much money they have, etc. Kindergartners are still innocent. They don't know themselves as well as middle schoolers. After middle school though, once kids reach high school, they are still judgmental but not so much. Teasing and bullying is not as intense.
And that scene pissed me off too. Because the principal did something against bullying, and the mother was like "taht's not how the real world works, you can't care about everyone's feelings, blah blah blah". What she says is basically "lmao you really trying to solve problems ? The world is what it is." And it pisses me off because that's the same type of response we get when we try to fight racism, sexism, LGBTQ+phobia, fatphobia, etc etc. Basically people do not care about others' feelings, they are too selfish and have too much ego to admit they are wrong. So that's why the world can not change. Because of the mentality of this mother. Because of the mentality of so many people.
KaoticcKenzieRBLX ! I know this is an old comment, but it’s totally right. He isn’t going to go far in the world without being able to treat other people with basic human decency.
One of the best scenes of the movie. We see things not just from Auggie’s perspective, but also Julian’s. He realises the mistake he’s made & genuinely feels bad about it. We’re shown that Julian isn’t really a bad kid, but that he’s simply doing what he thought was normal having never known any other way thanks to his pompous & shortsighted parents. It’s Mr Tushman who is true MVP in this scenario. He can see that it isn’t Julian’s fault the way he is, being gentle & soft spoken in reprimanding him. Even when Julian’s parents try to turn the tables to make their son look like the victim, he outwits them both with his both wise & witty words. Tushman remains calm despite the parents threatening him or when they degrade Auggie. It takes a great deal of strength for an adult not to lash out when a child is hurt, Tushman held it together incredibly well.
What I love the most about this scene is that it shows where Julian gets his close minded behavior. This scene proves that kids are products of their parents. I admire how this moment teaches Julian that his actions have consequences.
Even more crushing knowing that the bully actually grew throughout the movie and learned to get along with the kid and understand what he did was wrong. Bad parents suck
Mandy uttered the line "I know you are, Julian" with the same lovely, deeply reflective tone of voice he used to say "I have been in the revenge business so long, now that it's over, I do not know what to do with the rest of my life." Which was also his favorite line, btw. I smiled really big.
"Auggie can't change the way he looks. Maybe we can change the way we see" Such powerful words that everyone needs to hear and absorb. I feel this movie is very underappreciated.
It made me think of how a lot of people like Julian's parents did not grow up with the experience of meeting different people with genetic mutations. They probably would have been nicer parents to Julian if that were to have happened in their pasts. They wouldn't be such snobs and defend Julian's bullying behavior towards Auggie, but rather confront him asap for being mean.

Julians dad actually looked like he understood what Julian did was terrible. But instead of arguing with his wife he just stayed quiet and tried to keep Julian in school.
@AWP_1 ???? What.... So if a kid bullies someone into hating their life so much to the point the kid would want to end their own life, it's their own fault?

I think this movie was set at a public school. Rich people have much less power over a public school. They lied about the nightmares and the money they put into the school. In the Public school world they don't care much about the financial power of a students family.
@Brayden Pender really? From my experience they handle things better, as kids at private schools have similar backgrounds, and the schools have more power. Since private schools have better facilities the school is much more aware, which you know, is kind of unfair to everyone else
@@albozz4350 in my experience, as a student at a private school, with parents who are teachers at a private school- parents have power over everything. we've had cases where students were aggressive, or even went as far as to hurt staff, but the teachers were still blamed because the parents complained. in private schools, (as said above) money = power and control

As a teacher myself, I hate bullying and I don't tolerate bullying in my class, but I wish I could yell and do things I'm not allowed to do to a bully but I can't, we can't even transfer or expell a student that is being threatening to another student until something bad happens, we really need to review our policies on how to handle a bully and their parents on behalf of the bullied student and their families..
yes please

The world is what it is."
And it pisses me off because that's the same type of response we get when we try to fight racism, sexism, LGBTQ+phobia, fatphobia, etc etc. Basically people do not care about others' feelings, they are too selfish and have too much ego to admit they are wrong.
So that's why the world can not change. Because of the mentality of this mother. Because of the mentality of so many people.

They probably would have been nicer parents to Julian if that were to have happened in their pasts. They wouldn't be such snobs and defend Julian's bullying behavior towards Auggie, but rather confront him asap for being mean.
@@RegularInvader Well, there is a prequel coming out soon. So, we'll probably get some insight on Julian's family.
Should've secretly had this conversation play over the P.A. system.
That way every student, faculty and staff member in the building would hear these clowns.
I just think that’s too goofy in a movie so realistic and grounded in reality like this. That would have been hilarious though
Exactly!
Actually list of the parents knew what they thought about Aggie
“Nobody can get their feelings hurt ever?”
Madam, there is a clear difference between accidentally hurting someone’s feelings and doing it intentionally. Perhaps you should try looking at how it affects, as you called it, “the real world”
Also, damn Mandy Patinkin is a great actor and a national treasure.
It’s sad that Hollywood thinks schools actually care about bullying
I hate that real schools don’t
Apparently, when kids are getting bullied they tell you, just ignore them, but when you put on a hoodie, they actually do something about it.
Some do some don't
@Brayden Pender
elementary, bullied 3 years in a row by this same older kid that constantly picked on me about wearing the same clothes everyday, i wasn't broke i just didn't changing outfits, and had multiple sets of the same clothes, school did nothing after i reported it every month
"we do our best to stop bullying"
middle school, bullied by an older student that found humor and amusement in taking my writing utensils and either hiding them or leaving them where they were broken, only stopped when i got fed up and attempted to stab him with it, in which i was suspended, and he was slapped on the wrist, but stopped doing it
"we do our best to stop bullying"
high school, far too much to list, we all know what happens in high school, but
"we do our best to stop bullying"
@Brayden Pender and only if the bullied one was the one who pulled the first punch
I feel bad for Julian. He’s just a kid, he has time to change, but because of his narrow minded parents he is never given the chance to change
Yea, and you can tell that he changed during this clip.
The principal giving Julian a consequence was good for him too in the long run.
I still wanted to put him through a table
John Lime he changed cuz he got in trouble
Read the book. He's actually not a bad kid
Parents like this actually exist.
And ones that are even worse than this exist.
True dat.
One of the reason why when I have kids they won't be going to public school
"You are not doing these kids any favors."
You're the one to talk, lady. You're not giving your kid any favor, either.
it just a two day freakin' suspension! What is the mom's problem?
Jacob Sherman Yeah!
Jacob Sherman was yeah! My mom would be upset, but she wouldn’t take it that seriously!
She is such an arrogant A**hole that she thinks she can walk all over everyone even her son
673
Jacob Sherman entitlement
I freaking hate parents who back up their son even though they know he deserves it
Oh I don't think they deserve it I believe they're literally that trash where the poor boy is only like that because of them
Would you tell me please? Why should we punish this unaware boy, seen as a bully, for 10000 other bullies in the comment section? A person in real life can easily piss off people and act as a bully in the comment section the same as this situation.
2:11 Mr Tushman's reaction perfectly sums up the situation. Speaking as a teacher, we wish we can always do more.
Julians dad actually looked like he understood what Julian did was terrible. But instead of arguing with his wife he just stayed quiet and tried to keep Julian in school.
I can't stand bystanders. They know something is wrong, yet choose to look the other way. Shame on them.
Instead of having an argument with his wife he stayed quiet.
Yes in the book he talks a lot more
Him: kills someone
His mom: HES JUST A KID
yea so weird! sad thing is some people would do that
Him: *sets orphanage on fire and kills hundreds of kids*
His mom: "It's just a kid with a lighter"
@AWP_1 ???? What.... So if a kid bullies someone into hating their life so much to the point the kid would want to end their own life, it's their own fault?
@AWP_1 Bruh
I’ve read the Wonder book and yes it actually was true, Julian’s mom really did photoshop Auggie out cuz Julian was scared of his face and they really took him to a child psychologist cuz he was genuinely scared. but i can tell that at the end it all worked out for both of them and they became sorta friends. recommend the book 10/10
That's the one thing I didn't like about the movie
Really? I thought she's lying
Rahadian Yamin no, I think Jullian only bullied him because that was the only way he felt not scared of Auggie as he was intimidating him
Sonny Fox but like that’s not an excuse
The book is actually really good. I finished it in 3-4 days lmao-
Julian’s dad: “We have a lot of friends in the school board Mr. Tushman.”
Mr. Tushman: *exhales* “well I have more”
DAMN
Everybody gangsta until Tushman comes in with the school board
AIR HORN
When I watched this in high school my HS was like “oooooooooooo”
Now that’s a lot of damage!
Reminds me of a similar exchange in the movie Leatherheads:
"I'll fight you in court."
"You get your lawyer, I'll get mine."
I love hold of Mom claims that she photo shopped Auggie from the photo while also acting like that’s a totally ok thing to do
Mom: “Two days”!
Me: Yeah, sorry you have to cancel having the pool boy over.
I don't get it
Tucker Hawkey I’ll keep your innocent soul pure
@@ianmeadows6941 What?
@@tuckerhawkey9561 I'll break your innocence- he's saying the Mom is adulterous with another person and Guy #2 can't come if his son is home.
@@zacharysiple783 Oh I get it now thanks
Let’s be honest the chances of the Principal in real life doing something is very little especially at a Private School...
I would have thought it would be more likely at a private school.
@crowthrone having go through they system myself and with my kids, that is very true
Julian's mom: "These kids are too young to be dealing with this sort of thing."
Also Julian's mom: "Nobody could get their feelings hurt ever? You are not doing these kids any favors."
But evidently they're not too young to learn from their 'holier-than-thou' parents how to be a bully
The book actually does a good job giving Julian a redemption. I won’t spoil it, but while he’s visiting his grandma in France he really reflects on his actions and even tells his mom off and says he was in the wrong. He does a good job coming back around, if I remember correctly he makes amends with Auggie too.
That's A Good Ending 👍
