Ah, a foundation of my childhood. This game had great music, and I really wish it had a bit more exposure. When I was young and FIRST got this game, I didn't even know how to play, I didn't realize you were digging holes, hell I didn't realize the dot on the ground could be any larger than the first stage of said hole, and originally thought you were trying to FEED the aliens so that they wouldn't eat you, hahahaha. Would have been a considerably more interesting game, that way... as it stands, it's nonsensical for an alien species advanced enough for space travel to be outsmarted by a Heian-era police officer with a shovel. But that's part of its charm, really.
I had this game as a kid. I still remember the day I got it. My mom took me to Toys R Us and told me I could pick any 3 games. I chose this, Alleyway, and TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan.
I just love how ominous the ending is, it gives you a feel of dread as it was LOL love this game and for some reason it makes me pair it with Kieta Amemiya's Moon Over Tao film and his other design works.
Me and my older brother and sister would play this for hours. I guess we couldn't pronounce the name so we would just call it hanky. I finally found out the real name and immediately found this. The moment I heard that music it took me back almost 15 years. Thanks 10/10 + best music ever!
It will always be stuck in my head that those aliens always eat your head when you run into them, only if you run into them from the upper side the will eat your legs first. Indeed a strange game.
There was a chapter on this game in some Game Boy strategy book. I don't remember the name of the book, but the chapter on this game had a lot of epic flavor text.
I had this on the Game Boy in the early 1990s and I like the new version and played it a lot more than the old version. I like how both versions came on the same cart though. As a kid I never beat the game, if I only knew you could beat the game within 20 minutes! I didn't realize it was so short.
The old version is more difficult than new version because the old one will “cheat” if you take too long in a stage, that’s resulting in Game Over. But new version seems canceled the time limit.
That plus the six stage holes ?! That's some incredible difficulty... Even the new one is difficult because of the RNG and very tight timing (player was incredibly lucky).
wow, I remember playing this for hours on my original gameboy back in the 90s. Not sure if I beat it but definitely remember the final stage. The old option for sure was harder for me.
I played this on one of them multi carts. I believe they had 39 games in that one? I know it also had alleyway in there. If anyone knows what I’m talking about, and knows where to find it in a rom, let me know! So in a way, this game had a little US exposure.
Wow, I'm not the only one. I borrowed such a 40 games cartridge from a class mate shortly after I got my game boy. That has to be around 25 years ago. This game is the only one I can remember having played and I couldn't figure a shit what I had to do. I handed the cartridge back and never saw anything of this game again (didn't remember the name, either). The title was now mentioned in a German videogame magazine without any screenshot or explanation. What a discovery that it's THAT game. I love the internet.
I waited over 20 years for that shitty ending? This game was stolen from me before I could beat it, and I never got to beat it. Shitty but satisfying af.
A short and fast arcade like game, it's kinda tough on the advance levels but it doesn't go beyond that, it remember me to "Booby Boys " a somewhat similar game that came 3 years after this one. It also has a nice soundtrack and since is that short it doesn't get boring.
I must have had the most bootleg games collection because this battle city and cool ball plus many other were on this one cartridge I had and for the life of me I can't find a record of that cartridge on the internet
2 things 1: You got incredibly lucky a few times where you almost got eaten. 2: Make sure you always have a failsafe, i usually put two pits next to each other that way if one breaks out they fall into the other one.
Looks really fun =) Okay the graphics are really... basic, but I don't mind. Graphics don't make a game. The game has an interesting puzzle mechanic, which is always welcome.
so...the concept of this game seems to be aliens are invading earth - but the solution is to bury them? that's pretty much what it seems to be, unless I'm missing something...
Did you watch past the first 6 minutes? The first 6 minutes show the 'Old' style version with crap visuals, the following 15 minutes or so are the 'New' version with updated visuals for Game Boy. It's based on a 1979 game and both the original and updated versions are on the cart.
@@mariolee99 if you add the time as a parameter of the game then you need to display the time somewhere. here you have no idea of what time is left or elapsed....
one of the weirdest games ever made and one of the shittest the gameplay shit the sound horrible the graphics ok the music rubbish overall i give this game 1 out of 10
Mostly played this game because I loved the music
That intro at least would make a badass metal cover
Music was so good.
Yeah it was cute.
I'm just disenchanted that this game I could never understand at age 4 was only 20 minutes long.

If you like the soundtrack, there was a cassette tape of the soundtrack with a remade version of one of the songs.
Definitely nostalgic. I had this game on the original game boy and loved it
Rumor has it that the anguished screams of the buried aliens can still be heard during quiet nights in Kyoto...
😂

Holy shit I forgot I made this comment and randomly thought about this game again.
@edntz Definitely TMNT.
Good choices!
Stop an alien invasion by digging Looney Tunes-style pitfall traps and then bury those uninvited bastards afterwards. What a novel concept.
I just love how ominous the ending is, it gives you a feel of dread as it was LOL love this game and for some reason it makes me pair it with Kieta Amemiya's Moon Over Tao film and his other design works.
One of the strangest yet most addicting games for the Game Boy.
Me and my older brother and sister would play this for hours. I guess we couldn't pronounce the name so we would just call it hanky. I finally found out the real name and immediately found this. The moment I heard that music it took me back almost 15 years. Thanks 10/10 + best music ever!

Are you kidding me? I keep losing on the last level!?
Holy crap I haven't seen this game in 19 years
16:04 BEST MUSIC EVER
It sound so 1980s!

prevented an alien invasion by digging a hole.
When i were kid, i though hero create magic field and crush aliens in void.
At least it was not a glass of water.
I remember i LOVED this music! Played it for hours :D
This is literally my childhood. Wow
aye, we used to have this game on a multicart as well =) already wondered why it looked so familiar =)

Fuck yes ive been thinking about this game and boomers adventure. I used to own them i miss playing them when i was a kid
Wow 🤩 brings me back to my old days my childhood
I had picked this up yesterday. A true nostalgic classic!
wow, I remember playing this for hours on my original gameboy back in the 90s. Not sure if I beat it but definitely remember the final stage. The old option for sure was harder for me.
Oh the anxiety..
Went the bubble trap went "brr brr brr" I felt that.

Tyrone Thompson SAME. Still have it!

@@kbs1212 right? I’m trying to remember the actual title of the cartridge with multiple games in it.
Really good game. Wish there was a remake of this one.
there is now! there's one on steam

I just love the music from this game.
I was starting to think I'd just imagined this whole thing! No mandala effect here!
Never realized that this game was released 10 years after the original arcade game.
A rare instance of a computer game succeeding in arcades.
this was made first on the PET computer aroubd the early 80's

I owned this... What..20 MINUTES?...that mean i almost finished the game 15 years ago D:
Thats the retro port. Skip to half way.
The game that inspired Lode Runner and Pac-Man... pretty damn influential.
I must have had the most bootleg games collection because this battle city and cool ball plus many other were on this one cartridge I had and for the life of me I can't find a record of that cartridge on the internet
Unless he's using a magic wand to open worm holes I'd have to say yes.
I love this game and the ost

This Game reminds me when I've watched Space Sheriff Shaider
I feel sorry for the people who didn't get nothing for Christmas 😂
This game is scaring me as a kid when i first played this
Cool music, nice game.
No many stages in this game, but still good to playing.
We will dig a hole to keep the aliens in, who will pay for the holes?
Nobody digs holes better then me, trust me.
Aww the Nostalgia
Thank you
shout outs to jeremy parish

Yeah these type of puzzle games aren't my thing either. I actually can't quite grasp this one's concept entirely.
so...the concept of this game seems to be aliens are invading earth - but the solution is to bury them? that's pretty much what it seems to be, unless I'm missing something...
huh, well then. that makes a lot of sense.
that's actually a pretty cool idea~
He ate u!!!!
Heiankyo Alien. That's Japanese for "Shittier Cratermaze."
Yeah, Cratermaze used a similar concept to this but was much better. Shame that game doesn't get much recognition nowadays.
I hated this game so much. A friend gave it to me and after about 5 minutes of playing I realized why.
games dope
Jeremy Parish brought me here
I love my nostalgia but this is Atari quality, not Game Boy quality...
What atari did you play
This is a late 70's arcade game with an update on the Gameboy, the original's graphics were as good as they were going to get at that time.

Alien burry
the fuck o-o
5:50 the game is cheated lol
It’s called Time Out.
If you take too long in one stage, they will send more aliens and they get berserk that results in Game Over.
@@mariolee99 if you add the time as a parameter of the game then you need to display the time somewhere. here you have no idea of what time is left or elapsed....
This looks incredibly boring
Watch later in the vid ,much better
one of the weirdest games ever made and one of the shittest the gameplay shit the sound horrible the graphics ok the music rubbish overall i give this game 1 out of 10
