- it’s another transition phase in the garden. Early bloomers like larkspur and foxglove, feverfew and poppies are done. Seed heads are now drying snd I can pull them out and get to clipping the boxwood balls they hid. Some order is restored!

Linda I try to watch a video of you every morning. You share so much garden wisdom with us. I am learning with your videos on how to use potted plants in my small garden. Thank you for sharing with us a little information about your daily earrings and your clothing that you wear. I also enjoy seeing certain areas of your home and how you decorate using items from your garden. Linda you are a true blessing to us all. I do believe that if our world leaders would walk through a garden at least once a day there would be more peace in this world.

I dried my hydrangeas one fall. Then at Christmas I sprayed them gold and silver. Had huge arraignments and used some in a wreath.
I like natural stuff at Holidays then I don’t store anything in basement.

Zone 9 here…love these walk abouts! I go out and see if I’m winning the war against snails and slugs! Lol! I spray myself down with OFF and off I go to water, water, water. I have many containers and it’s too hot not to water them daily right now. I pull weeds, prune here and there and just enjoy the birds singing, being out with nature. 😎 (I also sit in my “bistro” and watch your videos! 😉)
I'm only 73, but a few years ago I had to clear out my beds because it just became too much to care for even on a daily basis.
I'm so glad I did because I can now not be overwhelmed by my favorite place in the world...my gardens

Have you ever done a video on fertilizers? I am overwhelmed by all the different fertilizers, and I’m afraid to use them on my plants. Could you maybe give some good brands and how much to use, when to use, etc.? Thanks! Those huge hydrangea blooms are amazing!
Every day of the week I concentrate on that garden, and make sure everything is in order, and properly maintained.
I'm sitting on my front porch with a cup of coffee enjoying your video and watching the bird feeder. I heard blue jays calling and paused your video do I could look for them as they rarely come to the front yard. They prefer the pond out back.

My husband loves to tease me about talking to the Jays that visit my deck. I told one the other day not to make a mess with his peanuts because I had just cleaned up the deck.
Honestly after working two jobs and trying to keep my vanity on a daily, I watch your TH-cam videos. I think about okay when can I water my plants. I think what needs pruning or what can I plant next. I think I should get a retractable water hose. I think about not work in flower garden but how it’s my escape. My garden shows my work and that feels like an accomplish when two jobs don’t feel like accomplishment. I think it’s good to make your own environment the best way for yourself to enjoy life.

I live just north of you in Kansas, zone 6. Early in the morning, before it gets HOT, I enjoy weeding and deadheading my daylilies. Yes, I know, they don't need to be deadheaded but I like removing the spent blooms - lol! I have several containers of Supertunia Vista Bubblegum that are looking full and fabulous!! My Quick Fire Hydrangea is blooming beautifully! I'm so excited how my Little Limelight Hydrangea's are coming along! The row of lavender I planted in front of the Little Limelight's have been blooming and so fragrant!! After the minus 29 degree temperatures we had in February, I feel so happy and blessed that I have a flower garden at all!! I so enjoy your channel!
Love Echinaceas. I have about 10 varieties growing in all different areas of my gardens. I’m in zones 5a and 6b for my zip code, 48381, in Michigan. I don’t cut them back until early spring so I can have some winter interest and food for any Bluejays, Cardinals, or Goldfinches that are around.
I can't seem to get enough of your videos :). Thoroughly enjoy them. You have a generous, authentic heart and remind me of all the nice people I have ever known. I wish you the best with your book!

Here’s an idea…
Move your earthy wooden bench in front on your huge beautiful hydrangeas .
This way the hydrangeas can continue to grow and be the “ super stars “ that they want to be.
Then your wooden bench can be enjoyed as a graceful, useable, restful seating area in your garden again.
I feel the wooden bench will look fantastic on the brick, without hiding it between the hydrangeas.

First thing I do... my daily routine, is checking my plants.I pick spend blooms,look for buggs,talk to them,admire their beauty and let them know that..by giving them a High Five.😁😂🤣I know that sounds crazy.I wonder what my neighbors think??Well,who cares.My plants are doing well feeling the love and are admired by all.Some even felt inspired and planted some themselves,which made me very happy.😄I do the same ritual in my back..All is thriving and looking good.All my work and tending and talking paid off..You are an inspiration for me.Love your down to earth Videos. Daily We now have a small yard. I water most potted flowers , look for weeds and take out weeds, watch for bugs and get ride of them , sweep and sit and enjoy. I love our garden. Judith

Every morning, I love to walk around my garden in zone 8. I love to water my garden. So I usually have to water hanging g baskets and some of my pots but I check. I dehead every day as I wear. Love to watch the sunrise.

Hi Linda, Zone 7B here. I carry a little cleaning type caddy, with my gloves, Felco snips, trowel and garden ties when I do my walk about.
I bought the thumb control sprayer, you had talked about it in an earlier video, and I love it! So easy to turn off as I move from one planter to another on my porch. I demonstrated to my 85 yr old dad, who still plants a vegetable garden, and he really liked it. So he’s getting one for Father’s Day! (Zone 6a Western PA).

I’m in western Washington Z8b and our springs are cool and wet. I’m a quarantine boom again gardener so I have to find motivation to brave the damp and get outside.
A new daily practice for me is bringing flowers inside every day. I have picked 5 spots inside my home to display flowers (2 medium, 3 smaller). Every morning I go out in search of replacements for whichever one is fading. Sometimes it’s quite the task but I find myself using a lot of things I would have never considered a “cut” flowers. This also gets me looking at all my pots and beds daily.
I curse at the rabbits daily. I survey the damage (the cages came in by the way ! So gorgeous!) , then I say all the things I will do to them if they don’t stop eating my flowers ! I check to see what plants need fixing and fill my bird bath .
Your garden is wonderful. What a joy. I too have a lovely garden but it is going a bit the worse for wear. I used to be up at 6 am watering. How I loved that time. I can’t do that now and my husband died a year ago so I have had irrigation put in. It’s not the same. I knew my plants. I would deadhead or squeeze aphids. But I still order plants. Just Joey is a rose I have had 2 years. After 60 years it is my favourite. It is a joy to watch you tend your plants.

I'm so glad you mentioned the Snowflake hydrangea. My very favorite. I worked at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover, AL which was the former home of Eddie Aldridge, local nurseryman. Eddie and his dad found the one in a million seedling which was different from its mother native oak leaf. They dug it up and began propagating it through cuttings since it is a sterile plant. He patented the Snowflake so it would be well known. It is now found all over the world. He took no royalties for it. Eddie was a sweet man who passed away about 3 years ago.
“Thug out”. I love that; I have a trailing purple lantana that acts like a thug and it get pruned every time it blooms or it will shade out my other perennials. Watering pots every day and moving pots out of harsh afternoon sun along with dead heading is my daily walkabout.
Love oak leaf hydrangeas. I have just one but it towers 7’ tall and 4’ wide! Not only are its blooms huge but the fall leaf color is spectacular.

Zone 8, coastal NC. I water all my potted plants daily. The heat, humidity and extended time in summer makes it necessary. I just had my house pressure washed and I moved all potted plants away to allow access and avoid chemical contamination. What a revelation. I have TOO MANY potted plants.

Watching your videos make me realize how much I can plant in dappled light. My back yard has very large trees that keeps the yard shaded with dappled light the whole day. I’ve lived here a couple of years and have always felt that not much would grow in the shade. Looks like I am wrong! Now I’m gonna get to work!
Glad the tape is working for you. I know it has for me for years. I use it with the irrigation connection to the faucet too. I look everyday what needs attention, what needs weeding, what needs moved.

Thanks for the tour. I actually try to just enjoy my garden first thing in the morning when I take my first tour with the dogs. I just try to appreciate all the good things going on and not focus on the bad, which is so easy to do. Later in the day, the to do list always includes deadheading, weeding, making sure the containers are moist, and looking out for things that need staking.

I love your style. There are so many things I like that you do that it's just easier to say I love your style!!
All your hard work shows. Your garden is glorious and the structure is comforting. I absolutely love crassula undulata (wavy jade). It grows in a beautiful mounding form; the color and texture adds so much. Now that I'm obsesses with topiaries and boxwood spheres, you inspired me to use the jade as a boxwood alternative in my hot SoCal zone 10 drought tolerant garden. Just patiently waiting for it to grow into a bigger globe. BTW... my daily garden routine is basically the same as yours: check/harvest food garden, water pots/hanging baskets, deadhead, weed and feed. I like the tip of trimming the sedums to thicken and re-root. I started gardening during COVID. My first love were/are succulents. My style and preferences have already evolved to topiaries, evergreens, foliage and creating a more harmonious design. I keep discovering new things about myself and my garden. To answer one of your previous questions....I wouldn't change a thing about my garden. I needed to go through my own evolution and journey to get where I am today. I suspect this will be an on-going process and I welcome it. Even though my "Hubs" keeps asking me, "When will you be finished?" Answer: "I will never be finished; only finished for This Season". I will learn from your journey and plan for a small green house/she-shed.

Loved walking your garden with you! My daily walk has me doing the usual weeding and dead heading. I also check my bird feeders and fill my bird bath with fresh water. The birds being me joy. My raised bed contains my herbs and they get water and trimmed and picked and brought inside to use and enjoy the smell in my kitchen. Watering here in zone 7 is the biggest issue in our hot summer.

Oxford, UK. What I do daily? If I'm not working, I take my morning cup of English Breakfast Tea out into the garden and take a walk around to see how everything is developing, check on self seeders, new emergers etc. I know my garden like the back of my hand. There literally is something new to catch my eye each day. If I'm working, I take an afternoon cup of French Earl Grey/ Darjeeling tea for the same walk when I get home. I do this literally every day, and there is a different flavour cup of tea for different times of the day. It soothes and settles me. The job I love (probably a bit too much) is pulling out bindweed roots. It's like therapy! I've slowly pulled out some that are literally 3-4 foot long without them snapping! As always, love the video and your inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing your garden with us.😁

I do my watering in the evenings in Southern California. In the morning I usually do weeding and planting (and watering new plantings). Sometimes I do plantings in the evening.
I love the sound of the birds in the back ground .so pretty and peaceful. You inspired me to plant a topiary .I planted it a small container and I put the little pebbles like you suggest. Its so cute and doing well....Thank you for that tip.
I need to pick up plumbers tape today!! My daily walk about is pretty much the same here in zone 7a. I have a small basket with tools and gardening gloves I keep on my front porch. I dead head, prune, pull any small weeds and water. I carry a bucket with me for debris since I have arthritis in my spine and don’t have to bend over twice to clean up!

I'm so glad I discovered your videos. It's been great getting to know you and your gardens. It's been inspiring and I also enjoyed the videos of other gardens.
On days I'm not going to spend in the garden I try to drive around in my golf cart.
We have 5 acres so for quick assessment of the gardens the cart is a big help.
Usually once in the morning and again before dark.
I have my tote with scissors and hand pruners, a couple of watering cans and a 5 gal bucket of water for when I find a plant in dire need of a drink. I also started bringing a pen and notebook to write down things that need attention, plants I may want to move, spaces that need filling, pruning and the like. I also carry large craft sticks and a paint marker to identify specific colors of day lily or other plants that I may want to move or divide. Knowing what color they are helps.
I try to stop and pull up weeds and oak seedlings as I go. On evenings in the summer I like to walk through the front gardens ending in one of the seating areas to just relax and maybe watch the sunset.

I hope you see my trick to keep hanging baskets and pots moist. Ready? You line the bottom of your basket with a disposable baby diaper! Yep, nothing fancy just a plain disposable diaper you can get cheap at a dollar store or any discount store. Give it a try. Only use with non edible flower containers. Love your garden walk about. I live in zone 7b Williamsburg, Virginia.

Hi Linda, I don't use scissors. I do the same with the Rhododendron flowers after blooming. Go to the base of dead Geranium and Pelargoni blooms directly with your nail. Is a tedious job but it works. I never use a scissors to dead head these type of flowers and never half way. I have used this technique for more than three decades. I learned it from my neighbors here in Germany. Try it. Never fails. It regenerates right away and the flowers come out much sooner than waiting for the steal to dry and fall out. 👋

In my area we have odd/even watering days plus early/late time restrictions and unfortunately that causes some plants stress. So what I did was install a moveable water mister to use on my delicate plants so they will survive the heat waves as needed.
I too, move around with my clippers to do ongoing cleanup of my plants; my tip on the deadheading is I have large empty nursery containers hidden here & there to put the clippings in and later just collect them to toss in the compost.
I just love your garden and pottery tips & hopefully someday my backyard will be as beautiful as yours.

My routine here in Boise, 7a, is to water, in the morning, the potted/hanging plants and veggie raised beds. I havent developed a ritual as this is my first year here. Sometimes I will forget a poor pot or plant and it will slump and shrivel 🥺and get my attention. Ps.... i have a chippy white version of your rusty mini bird bath at your window box!💕

Bacillus thuringensis can be purchased as a concentrate to mix with water. I use Thuricide and mix it in a pump spray bottle. The dust is often not pretty.
I picked up a curly jade near the end of winter, and it did really well indoors for several months, doing even better outside!

I'm still waiting for the rain to stop, its so wet underfoot. That's our winter for you! I have become a massive fan of worm castings it has made my struggling wannabe garden into a flourishing beauty. No matter the planting. The herbs have never been so big or flavorful. Even areas that refuse to produce over many years no matter what I put into the soil. This is magazine worthy. 😆 I added it to roses (10 years +)that were waiting to be placed after contactor, looking dead, have shoots of the size i have not seen . Enough said!

I also trimmed one of my globe topiaries today. I was worried it might not be the right time of year, but it was looking unruly so I’m happy to see you doing that, too! ❤️ Tomorrow I’m planning on staking my small boxwood starts so their stems will grow straight. Geraniums are so beautiful and I don’t mind the extra work of deadheading because I just love the smell of their leaves. I also weeded my gravel today. After most of the weeds were out, I spray with Captain Jacks Dead Weed which I understand is new this year.

Really enjoy the walk throughs. Daily walkabouts are definitely for a little pruning, a little weeding, and a little dreaming of what to plant next! I usually have my Gardenia pruners with me at all times. I've had them for over 20 years and they are a perfect fit for my small hands. We need rain up here! The storms keep going around us, except we keep getting plenty of unpleasant wind. I'm in zone 2b-3a: - 45C (aka - 49F) -- (YES, THAT IS MINUS, ie BELOW ZERO) in the winter. If you have any wall space where you have your jewelry, buy a nice wooden frame (of a size that will hold your collection), and a roll of flexible window screen (at any hardware store). Remove any backing and glass from the frame, and staple, use picture nails or tacks to attach the window screen to the frame at the back. I also applied hot glue all around the edge to mine after tacking, just to be sure it could hold the weight of my collection securely. When hung on the wall, it holds a plethora of wire-hang earrings, and is also a beautiful display and easy selection! Super easy project with minimal money and effort! 😊

I garden in Zone 6 in Northeast Ohio (we used to be Zone 5 and a much shorter growing season). Thanks for the reminder to fertilize but not during intense heat. I’m ordering soluble kelp powder to supplement my container and basket feeding. Watching your walkabout Wednesdays is like visiting a good friends garden. I’m renewing my life long passion for gardening. And I’m going to sculpt my first topiary this week thanks to your 5 part topiary tutorial. Thanks for your inspiration. I work full time, but have the luxury of coming home for lunch, so I do some deadheading and simple weeding then.

Suggestion: that window box should be a rock garden. Pull out the hosta & fern. Add a 3rd buxus in the center (totalling 3.) Top with potting soil then light grey pea pebbles. Step back, look and wait for a new configuration to appear.
