Great job! Quick tip I learned when I first started teaching is, instead of saying “no” when they make a mistake you can say “stop check.” It’s quick and it lets them know to stop and check their work or reading. It’s just a gentle way to have them correct their mistake. You are doing a great job Momma!
Please do a video on commo issues with bome schooling like how to be calm when anyone gets frustrated, what to do when they want to just be silly or muck around when you need to do lesson's, what to do when they get upset everytime when they get things wrong, what to say when you know they can do something but they're acting a little silly and defetest and you cant get them to do the work etc. Thanks
I’m planning to combine TG&TB with another Writing curriculum for me 10 year old son this coming school year. He will be doing level 5 and I still found this video helpful. Thank you!😊
Your daughter is so similar to my 5 year old in energy! ❤❤ I love how you know what she wants and needs emotionally to get through the lessons whether it’s on your lap or Ella. Thank you for showing us how you’ve made these two work! 😊
I just wanted to say I am in that boat of I have Abeka stuff but wanting to also do some TGATB but don't want to buy extra. Your video did reach someone! It was an encouragement to merge the two. Thank you for sharing!
LOVE IT! Thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful learning time! Truly helpful! I'm learning a lot on how to homeschool. Many heavenly blessings to all!
Thanks for this! It is great to see how a lesson flows for another child since this is my first year homeschooling. I also like seeing the inside of the books from different curriculums.
I’m a new subscriber and I am so enjoying your videos! I have been homeschooling for 11 years but we can all learn so much from each other. Thanks for sharing! ❤
I absolutely love this. I think so many people are afraid to combine curriculum to work with their child, so I’m glad to see something like this come up. Excellent job mama!
We started with Abeka level 1 video led. It was way too fast paced for my 2nd grader. But she did learn to read very quickly! We switched back to TGTB level 1 with Abeka supplements. I love how it’s working for her so far!! Your little one is really good at drawing! Thank you for these videos! Gave me the idea to use both curriculums for her. ❤
I love this! And we are using TGATB level one language arts and we just completed that lesson last week. It is comforting bc I was feeling a little anxious that we aren’t further along- even though I know it doesn’t matter!! ❤
You’re totally fine ❤️😊 We got a late start so I’m not stressing about finishing before the school year…if we have to go into next year a bit, so be it 🤷🏻♀️
Wow she did a great job drawing... I remember the old edition had something similar for the activity and my sons person looked so scary lol we aren't artists here. Your girl is so sweet. Love hearing her read ❤
Hi! I love your Abeka/TGATB videos. You did another video on the reading handbook...does that have all the phonics charts? And how different are the flashcards from those? Trying to decide which things to get on a limited budget.
What level are you planning to do this with? I’m wanting to combine the two, but can’t decide what exactly I need. What pieces will you be using from each?
I actually started this year with the good and beautiful level 1 everything. I pretty quickly switched our phonics/reading to abeka. For a few months I did abeka phonics/reading and tgtb LA 1 course book. After Christmas I switched all LA to abeka for my first grader. I think combining components of different programs that you like can be great.
Definitely! It can be a little tricky at first to figure out what’s gonna work and what to choose but I think combining can be great! Best of both worlds 😊
Just found your video amongst others trying to compare LA curriculums. I am using Abeka LA with my kiddos and it’s a great program, but it’s a tad bit intense for my kiddos, and it’s long, as far as number of lessons. I never thought to combine the flashcards/readers with a different program. Do the flashcards/readers from Abeka blend well with what your daughter is learning in TG&TB workbook? That’s my biggest concern, but I am very intrigued by the idea of combining. TIA!
I also combine Abeka with TG&TB. I think they can make a powerful combo! ( Also, random question, but a few videos back you had mentioned a perfume that you liked! I can’t seem to find that video now. Can you tell me what it was? Id really appreciate it! )
This video is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Thank you so much for making it! I’m hoping to be able to use this combination. She’s never done Abeka phonics, would the handbook for reading, along with the charts, be sufficient for teaching their phonics? Since you’ve used other levels of Abeka and TGTB, I hope you can give me some insight. I feel like my daughter is going into first grade, but needs the TGTB level K. She’s reading cvc words pretty confidently and some blended words. I just can’t figure out if she needs Abeka K or 1st level readers. I hope this makes sense.
My daughter started off the year like that and we went with level one…her reading has come so far this year. You still have the rest of this school year and even the summer if you wanted to work with her to do level 1. But it really depends on your child as they all “get it” at different times
We have used AAR and TGTB this year, but switched back and forth between the 2. I bought the level 2 TGTB and was hoping to go just to that but we started the booster cards and I'm just not loving it. I think I may go back to both and just do AAR for instruction. Do you find that sometimes concepts come up in TGTB that you haven't covered with abeka and how do you navigate that?
If so, it’s only really been like nouns and verbs. But it was taught in the actual lesson of TGTB. Occasionally a special sound/blend or sight word, but that hasn’t really been an issue.
I know you mentioned you didn’t get the boosters, because you used abeka. Do you know if that is the same for kinder level? I have k4 from abeka that I’m finishing up & am thinking about combing tgtb next year with abeka Also. It’s so hard to make the right decision for our babies! Abeka has really instilled the reading there so far for my son, but I did do the prep course from tgtb and he enjoyed it more.

That’s a great little tip! It’s funny what you don’t even realize sometimes or pick up on.
WOW! Thank you very much for your sweet advice! Truly helpful and very positive! May you be abundantly blessed!

I’m also combining TGTB curriculum and Abeka in a similar way. I find it very helpful for my daughter.

I will 🥰

Was it the old math? We did that one too with all of my girls and some of them turned out scary too haha…we just cracked up over it!
She’s quite the artist!
I’ve combined Abeka and TGTB for LA for 3 years now.
Thank you! And that’s awesome ☺️

Yes the handbook for reading does have all of the phonics charts in them
