  • With noodles and chop suey for offerings, this Kali temple is one of a kind!
    John Cheng is the caretaker of a unique temple to the Goddess Kali in the heart of Kolkata’s Tangra area. The area is also known as India's very own Chinatown, with its unique symbols of cross-cultural assimilation. Formerly a Buddhist, John Cheng now considers himself a Chinese Hindu, and is the third generation caretaker of the temple. Together with the locals from the community, the temple acts as a melting pot for the Indian and Chinese communities in Kolkata.
    Outside the metros and beyond the urban jungle live the sons and daughters of India’s heartland. This series tells their stories. 101 Heartland celebrates both unique communities and individual tales of hope, struggle, and reform. From the village of Bouncers just outside Delhi to the fascinating story of Ram Kumar Tyagi, once a wanted man but now a coach for aspiring female wrestlers, 101 Heartland tells stories for the heart, from the heartland.

    I am Chinese, but I respect Kali as the Endless One, Eternity Herself. I also learned that Kali Maa is not just the goddess of destruction, but she is also the goddess of eternity, love, purification, holiness, liberation, and justice.
    Perhaps she can be an inspiration to do what is right - to destroy evil and promote what is good and righteous. Jai Kali Maa!

    OMG! I'm crying, right now! I'm British, but ethnically Chinese. I was raised Buddhist, but was taught Kali worship by my grandfather back in London. I knew he lived in Calcutta, but never understood why he was so into Kali. Our entire family found it odd, to say the least, but he had a reputation for eccentricity. Before he passed away, he left his altar (a mixture of Buddhist iconography, but with a brass Kali in the center) with my mother. I now feel guilty for not being more curious about this part of his past.

    I think that should be the norm among us pagans of Eastern traditions, I became a Taoist after many years practicing shamanic lucid dreaming techniques and realized much of the teachings I had been following were given in a much higher form by Bön and Taoist lineages, especially the oldest ones which have their shamanic roots preserved more evidently. However, I still have Hindu deities on my wall from the time I was a neo Hindu! And I´ve heard the Taoist feminine deity of my special devotion, Dou Mu, the Lady of Destiny, Time and Space (She is also known for other epiteths) has a Hindu correspondent as well and we know in Chinese legends there´s a deity who must have been taken from Hinduism´s Shri Hanuman, besides the fact that Shri Ganesh Himself has a counterpart in the I Ching hexagram called Kwai Li, which means the Remover of Obstacles! I´ve heard Hinduism (and so does Bön) also has its form of Feng Shui and the concept of the Sunyata is very much akin to the Buddhist Sacred Void and the Taoist Primordial Nature or the Tao as the Source of All Things. Also, Okinawan Shamanic native religion would well mingle with Taoism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Bön. Thank you so much for this lovely, inspirational video!

      @joalexsg9741 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Nischay Miglani Well, I'm glad you think that way. Master Alex Anatole says Bön is the Tibetan form of Taoism and though the lineages of Enlightened Ones are different, the core beliefs are the same, the Sacred Primordial Nature or Anterior Heaven is tantamount to the concept of Parabrahman and the aeons of what physics theories now call the big bang and the big rip are the nights and days of Brahman, which in Taoism is also taught about, cycles within cycles, etc. Mahayana Buddhists, if I'm no mistaken, believe in the Womb of the Tatagathas, the Sacred Void which originates all buddhas and this sounds to me much like the Hindu Sunyata, the Sacred Nothingness, which, buy he way seems to have been attested in one of its infinite qualities in the Quantum Physics of matter and antimatter particles clashing in the so-called 'nothingness', which they say once originated the present universe from that one single particle of matter which escaped clashing with its antimatter counterpart! It´s interesting that in the oldest, shamanic schools of Taoism we also are taught about multiple parallel universes, and that the Ascended Ones who transcend death - not just the ones who manage to create the so-called 'spiritual fetus' but the real immortals who turn their physical bodies into the Primordial Nature, keeping, nevertheless, their capacity to manifest as individuals at will. It seems Baba Ji is going in this direction (and also his sister, who is also said to be immortal). Some arrogant philosophical masters of some Taoist schools, however, mock these beliefs saying they are but the naive superstitions of the masses, forgetting that even acupuncture came from the same shamans who gave them these and other beliefs in Taoism. I remember reading about the Banyan magi who turn into trees to live as long as five thousand years, which also reminds us of the European folk tales which speak of such wizards who turn into trees, but whose knowledge seems to have been either forgotten or kept in secrecy by hermetic oral traditions.

    Chinese can be Buddhist Taoist or follower of Confucius simultaneously
    Japanese can be Shinto and Buddhist at the same time it is only the semitic religion which are exclusivist and actively promote hatred and rejection of other paths of spirituality

    Vajrayana tradition of tantrik Buddhism was directly and profoundly influenced by the Shakt tradition of tantrik Hinduism. Devi Durga, Devi Maa Kali, Dashamahavidya deities etc are the fundamental base of the core philosophy of that sect. The same for the tantrik Buddhism aka Vajrayana. So its absolutely not shocking that some Chinese or Tibetan or Japanese will worship the mother goddess of Hinduism.

    There is no boundary in jainism,buddhism,sikhism and hinduism. They all can be followed together without sacrificing teaching of any one. THIS IS SECULARISM. THIS IS WHAT WE NEED IN INDIA AND NOT ABRAHMIC RELIGIONS

    My favourite gods & goddesses are holy spirit, yashua, shiv, parvati, kartik, and ganesh. But I celebrate only Baradin(only yashua problem) & Kali puja(only parvati problem, durga puja involves commoners' problems instead). Khali pet-a dharmo hoy na. Kolkata, India, & SHARE.

    For people who don't know about Hinduism .. there are many sects to worship God in many forms.. and Chinese , Japanese, Korean, Asian countries types of worship was common in even India also .. like Chinese follow dhakini sect, Japanese follow kamini sect
    Asian countries elder worship was common even now in India.. we will keep coconut at front of house, they will keep inside house.. but in any religion worship we will keep coconut before god worship also..
    There are 90% similarities but we never did research on that way or we never given chance to research on that way..
