I grew up on the St.Lawrence river. Years ago, when I was about 12 yrs old I witnessed first hand a large frieghter running aground onto a granite island. I'll never forget the sound it made when it hit that solid granite, common in the Great Lakes, and how incredible it was to see this enormous fireghter run aground in front of our town. Great little video. I'm a sailor (smaller sailboats) and love the sea. The footage was great and tons of info behind it. Very nice.
Thank you very much Yolanda. I think in Social Media we have to work hard to make sure that communication goes both ways. Thanks that you noticed and made an effort to write this. Enjoy your day.
Thank you for posting! At about 5:20, I was almost on my feet and cheering. I knew nothing about this incident until I happened to come across it on TH-cam. It was fascinating (and scary) to watch but I'm glad it got done, instead of wasting millions of dollars per day being beached. Thanks again!
This video was the one that started my channel and it is the classic. Thank you once agin to everyone who has been watching it, some of you very critical but nonetheless. Lately the views have been picking up once again and I am grateful as it reminds me of the time when it was running. I am thinking of remaking this video but more in my VLOG style as you may see in my latest videos. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions in this regard. THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN.
There are definitely still empathetic good people on this earth and it is heartwarming. Thanks Bob Cooper for your comments as well. You are very right in your assessment. We should be a community on TH-cam and support each other as this could be TV in the hands of the people. We should build and not always destroy. Especially of we have never made an effort ourselves.
Hehehe John, I was searching for your previous comment but seems you deleted it. Thanks. It is impossible to change the music without severely affecting the viewing of the video. I am stuck with it as it is. sorry..I have explained in the past why, legitimate music is ahrd to come by, especially if you are in a hurry and try to post something while it is still newsworthy.
Christiaan, ignore the music haters. It is obvious you put a lot of time and passion into making this video. Your perseverance in documenting all the refloating attempts led to some spectacular photos and footage. I was sad to find out that after all that effort the ship was scuttled. Also amazing to me is the patience with which you respond to the critical comments. You could tell them all off but you always answer with humility and humor. You have a new subscriber!
+Brian Adams Thank you Brian for making the time to write this nice comment. It is comments such as this that pushes us to try harder. Have a lovely day.
Thank you Barry. The sea is really a sign that we should show respect. I often see some huge ships coming pass. Most amazing to me are the Car carriers.
Christiaan Kleynhans I am also Scottish. Your accent is spectacular. I'm the product of a McKinstry, a Stirling, a Mitchell and a Guy, and I can't even half fake a Scottish accent that well.
Docktor Jim Hehehehe Docktor Jim, I am South African and far from being Scottish. To be honest, I am originally from German descent and I grew up with a language called Afrikaans that gave me this accent. It is not suppose to be fake, it is real and we do pronounce certain sounds very similar to what the Scottish do.
amazing video. it shows a little bit about science, astrology, mathermatics, biology and conservation as well how the south african accent sounds and the culture of the man that posted this video. awesome proud to be a south african.

Dear Sir, Christian Thanks so much for sharing this. After 43 years I know a little about ships. M. Robinett, Sr. Engineer NJH Engineering, Houston, Texas.
Hi There Hi There. Nope, this not normally a swimming beach because it is very rocky underwater. But about 3km more south we have lovely swimming beaches and we also have a big international surfing competition here every year.
Thank you for sharing your great footage! I know it took a lot of effort to put this together to share your perspective, and I really enjoyed seeing something that happened half a world away.
I am marveled at this video. That ship lived up to its name "Phoenix"- it really rose from its "ashes", considering she has attracted so much people to witness her rising. Thanks for posting sir, i appreciate it👍

Thanks for the advice Fredo. It is constructive. But as this video has reached over 12 million views, there is no way that I will tamper with it. I have thought of a remake in about four parts in the style of my latest videos.
Thank you very much Mary. The salvaging would have cost too much. That is my first assessment. The ship also had a big hole in its hull and was only kept afloat with the aid of compressors. Salvaging it on the spot would have been very difficult as well as it is quite inaccessible by vehicles and the area is upper middle class housing and the residents would bot have allowed that. There may be other reasons but I am not too sure about them. Have a lovely day. Chris

If it was a lot lower in db, more in the background, it may have been ok, however, I would have just preferred to hear the ocean. Beyond that, it is a well produced little clip, thanks for posting it..
Thank you MissDistarr for your defence. I appreciate it and you are hitting the nail on its head. A video like this has no allocated budget or staff support. I simply cannot understand people sometimes. It takes such little effort to be kind to others yet they go out of their way to insult someone. Don't pay them any further attention. Take care and you have a great rest of your day!

Really chap. You have obviously never had a succesful video on TH-cam. I have original footage of course. No guarantee that it will again perform that well. Do you want me to throw away 12.5 million views chap? And since it works I will accept that ot works well enough.
Interesting story, but unfortunately I had to interrupt my viewing due to impossible music, which doesn't fit the subject at all and it's way overbalanced to narrative
@andreproject4285 You could have watched the remakes. This was my first video on TH-cam and I had to use music that was legal. 13 million views. And I had an 8 minute limit. Now I have 5 episodes and the music is gone. Good luck.
thanks for the Video Christiaan, I really enjoyed the music. (because it was novel and new to me, I love hearing sounds that I am not accustomed to) When the Tugs were hooked up to her, I would get excited every time I would see a big swell, hoping that it would budge just a little. And then a fine climax at the end, when the stern finally broke free of the rocks and she was free! sad about her being scuttled though. Cheers mate, thanks!

I watched because I wanted to watch the activity but your music was too loud and at times almost drowned out your dialogue. I thought the music piece you chose was totally inappropriate, in any case.
I have dealt with this subject quite a few times Justin. Thanks for your comments though. I had very little choice in my music as I could only use music that I had the right to use for. Not as easy as it look if you just want to publish on low budget for fun. I should have left the music out. In hindsight. But now the video is popular and I can't tamper with it. So I beg that everybody try to tolerate it as far as possible. I really put in a huge effort to tell a story and to gather and edit the material. I am just a hobbyist.
Thanks Betty. Somebody told me that they scuttle the ships in very deep water as the cold water keeps the pollutants (fuel) in a solid state. That is what they have been doing around here. The community have suggested that the ship gets scuttled in shallower water for the sake of reef building but that never materialised.
I made it through 2 minutes. Appreciate the efforts and realize it is your first video but edit out the music. It lends nothing to the documentary and is just plain annoying.
People, people. I do believe the man understands, after having been told about 10 times, that you all do not care for the music. Point taken. Give the man a break. To mention it yet again is simply overkill. That being said, I thought you did a fine job on the video and would like to say thank you. I know a lot of time can go into making these and just know there are youtubers out there who appreciate your efforts. Warmest Regards from Oregon, USA
Well your first lesson is cut the Music down a bit so we can hear The Narrator . I will have to charge you for any more successful advice if I can help just let me know 😂😂
My apologies, I didn't realize that you are a genius and an expert. I went to have a look at your videos and i am very impressed. I love your minimalistic approach to both sound and video, it conveys the message very well. I do aplogize, this was my first video and it was made under enormous pressure in 2011 and I had nio experience. Nothwithstanding all of that, it became very succesful as you may notice from the views. I obviously didn't just sit there, I continued to make more videos and i tried to improve and sad to say, I don't think I will ever reach your high standards. Some people did enjoy aspects of this video. At that time, most people were just posting videos on TH-cam of their cats and dogs and they didn't use any editing either. But so do we learn, don't you agree?
Hi this vidéo is a very great one ! Congrats and Bravos to you ! It's something not usual, the title is a very descriptive one, it's not one with "must see" titles or the like. Your comments are very constructives and give a very good explanation of what happened. Do not worry about some bad comments, your vid is very instructive. All those naysayers did not event think saying "Thank You". As you I feel worried by some comments about racism, but never mind go on with the good job. Merci pour votre travail de qualité, sans place pour le sensationalisme. Et surtout, merci de le partager. Bravo
Thank you for the excellent photography and the calm, soothing music as we view a rather dramatic and dangerous operation. Keep up your good work.

People are still watching this and commening on it after 6 years. Must be something worthwhile there.

Interesting. Terrible music, though -- sounds like an 1980s arcade game.
Closer to 15th century Bach.
Thank you David! This is a standard question and I have answered it as well as I could several times before..
Thank you Helio, I am glad you enjoyed it notwithstanding the flaws.
seams like a waste of good steel.
Possibly..
Great footage and info you put together here to make a great video!
Thanx for sharing!
Thank you very much.
Turn the poor music down, or even off.
Bravo
Thank you Philippe and my apologies that I haven't replied yet. I only saw this now.
Stop that inappropriate music ! Impossible to understand the speech !
+Jean-Louis BRUN I don't know how to do that.
It is okay Christiaan. I just wanted to pint out. I thank you for sharing the wonderful video. Thank you again.
What’s with the music!
Not everybody understand Bach.
Good wideo, good work of the tugs. Thank you!
Thank you Stig.
