  • Vancouver Island's Tofino in British Columbia offers excellent saltwater fishing opportunities for a variety of species including salmon, halibut, lingcod and rockfish. We explored inshore coho salmon fishing in September by casting and retrieving jigs and spoons. Beside coho salmon, they also encounter many other species including lingcod, rockfish, greenling, perch and sole.

    Episode #2 of 2018 features Tofino's diverse saltwater fishing opportunities! We'd like to thank Jeff Hale from Braedy Mack fishing Charters for taking us out. Not only is he an awesome angler, he is one of the nicest individual who we've fished with. Enjoy the show and thank you for the support once again!

    Should have added a stinger hook to your power paddles. You were probably missing them as they were grabbing just the tail and the hook is higher up on the body. Great Vid

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah for sure. Usually with the lingcod we don't really have a problem keeping the fish on but this particular fish (assuming it was the same one coming back four times) was very likely to be a halibut. Past halibut caught on this have fallen off pretty often. The smaller Power Paddles do come with two hooks with the second one extending further down to the tail.

    Thanks for the video. Awesome cinematography as always. In the video they mentioned coho salmon near the two rivers. Would this type of casting opportunity exist on the west coast trail between Bamfield and Port Renfrew? Also, post some videos of sea urchin and uni! It’s such an under appreciated delicacy right here on the Bc coast! Thanks again for sharing!

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gary, I've never done the West Coast Trail so don't really know, but I'm sure there are casting opportunities available! You should be able to find species like surf perch, soles, rockfish, greenling. For coho salmon, it's very time specific for them to be that close to shore. Mid September is usually when they are encountered. I know down in Port Renfrew, cutthroat trout fishing at creek mouths can also be good. Love uni!!! Actually I just love to eat all seafood.... :)

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve actually never eaten a greenling. I should try, many of my friends have said that it is good. I would think it’s like a delicate small lingcod.

    Hi Rod, how can we take advantage of the tide to fish? should we go against or with the tide when trolling?

  • @chemecal01

    Love the multi-species suspense! Don't know what you're gonna get. Keep up the great work rod and kitty. I really like the 2017 aerial drone shots...I'm assuming it's hard to deploy during the action.

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I don't fly the drone very often, only when everything is fairly controlled.

      Because I love steaks, so almost always eat it during each trip! ;) We usually don't prep the fish until we get home.

    Great vid Rod. I have caught a few ling cods before but never a green one like the first one in the video. What causes them to be green like that?

    What bait or lures did you use for this video for salmon?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were casting and retrieving spoons and jigs that are between 1/2 and 1oz. These imitate baitfish found around kelp beds (eg. herring, needlefish, anchovies, etc). For the bigger lingcod in deep water, we were jigging with large swimbaits, specifically Gibbs Delta Tackle's Power Paddles (16oz). These are the best lures you can use if you want to selectively target large lingcod.
