For me, this is one of the most emotional scenes in the entire series. Just everything about it, man -- the catapult crew risking death to launch you off, everyone saluting the sinking Kestrel as the music swells, and the captain smiling as he says he finally won. What a perfect scene.
Nobody is gonna mention that there are exactly 10 seconds between the crew said "ten seconds to impact!" And the missile impacted? I feel thats a cool detail. In anime those would be like 3 minutes
Andersen only ordered all non-catapult crew to abandon ship immediately. He was determined to get the Razgriz in the air as she ship was sinking fast. In AC7, Avril would mention that the last plane barely made it off before the ship sank. As a matter of fact, the carrier that you take off from in the last mission is called ‘OFS Admiral Andersen’ named after Nicholas A. Andersen.
These were the most badass cut scenes in all of the Acecombat franchise. The part where the missile weaves through AA barage and strikes the carrier is embedded in my memory after 15 years.
"I've lost time and time again.., but now, I've finally won." Albert Jenette: "huh?" "Look! We launched them off safely. There's my victory. As long as they're in the air, I haven't lost. Her majesty, the Carrier Kestrel. In peace may she rest may we never forget how she died. The Kestrel is now in a better place with her sisters the Buzzard and the Vulture.
Anderson was honored in the latest Ace Combat game with a new Osean Aircraft Carrier named the "Admiral Anderson". (Spoiler) It launches the heroes who finally ended the Lighthouse War in 2019, 9 years after the Circum Pacific War.
Watching this again, brings back so much memories. I played it so many times, and everytime, I did cry here. When the Captain said his revelation that he kept losing and winning because he sent the Razgriz to fight, always breaks my heart and makes me cry, but at the same time...I felt hopeful.
Always reminds me of HMS Thunderchild from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War Of The Worlds this does. "Slowly Disappearing, Farewell Thunderchild". or "Slowly Disappearing, Farewell Kestrel" in the context of this.
It makes me sick to my stomach that you can have such a profound scene like this and then in ac7 they off screen kill the kestrel II. Not just that but its LITERALLY mentioned as a after thought. Like "oh btw the kestrel was sunk." I really feel like they ran out of time with ac7's campaign and jumbled together what they had. I was so hyped to serve on the carrier again. Just think how cool and the sense it would have made to be using it as a home after the communication worldwide was killed.
Not to mention the death of Harling :/. I get it making games are hard plus limited resources that project aces has compared to other AAA title is making it even more so but i feel like they put 30% to this game story instead of what it couldve been because of those limitation and just gave up halfway..still i can feel the passions and effort they bring to this game even if its not 100%. I wish they can make another masterpiece Ace Combat that can bring this franchise recognition it deserves. Pardon if my english were bad.
@@syaondri that would be dope but i mainly hoped that AC8 will atleast be comparable to the other ace combat masterpiece story and presentation such as AC 5,0,4. I mean in ac7 the ingame cutscene and dialog could get some work you know or the story in general couldve been heck a lot better.
@@syaondri if AC7 will be the lowest standard for the next few games then I think the series is gonna see a big comeback. AC7 is the game that got me and many others into the series as a whole and I really enjoyed playing it. The master of a vessel (usually the captain) is ultimately responsible for the safety of their vessel and all aboard her. Therefore it is tradition for the captain to be the last person alive off a stricken vessel which means there are numerous cases of a captain going down with the ship because not everyone alive could be rescued. This is more convention than law though there are potential legal implications for a captain who abandons ship without securing everyone first.
0:49 What do you mean you can't hit all of them? They only sent two missiles at you. Two very large profile anti-ship missiles. And you're telling me you're failing system couldn't take either one down? Brah.
A carrier, with no air wing or screening fleet, is a sitting duck. A submarine getting that close would have no trouble sinking it which is why real life carriers have an entire task force of ships to screen and protect them, they are large floating missile targets with a handful of CIWS point defence weapons. If you've missiles coming at close range to your carrier then everything else has failed and its probably not going to last long. But if you want to talk realism then perhaps of the most unrealistic parts of the game is actually how the Kestrel wasn't sunk before; it managed to sail unmolested without a carrier wing (they're all killed in the burst missile attack bar Snow) or escorts (again all sunk in the attack) through a number of combat zones just fine until its plot armour ran out.
