    Great vid as always. Thanks.
    North Central and Eastern Scotland are often bypassed for the Highlands but you managed to show how rugged and grand it can be.
    If you ever make it back up to the Moray coast, turn left. Lossiemouth Harbour Tea Rooms, smoked haddock on toast with a poached egg...no need for a stove ever again.
    Hopefully, this is where I'm cycling to later this month, via the East Highland Way and Spey Way.
    Keep the good stuff coming!

      Yeah I have a map of all the routes I have been on, and Eastern Scotland was looking untapped. The aberdeenshire coastline is also stunning!!!! need to hunt out that tea room

    Hey Barry! Really enjoyed your film! Did you have any (big) trouble with midgies on your tour? Planning to go in July. I always read that midgies are not a big deal in the eastern part of Scotland. Is that true?

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jim! Yes you will defiantly get midges in July! I often try and go in March or September October to avoid them. So you have to now try and deal with them haha. Smidge is by far the best repellent, and maybe worth also getting a head net. Just be away if you are wild camping, or even camping. Once you get in your tent, spend the next few hours trying to kill all the midge in your tent you will not be getting out in a hurry :-) So have a wee before!

    Can you announce next time you are going to Scotland and I will avoid it - it always seems to rain when you go! Good video but you are so unlucky with Scottish weather. I prefer May to early June, less rain and far fewer midges. Not as warm but that's the trade off.

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I would love to announce that so I could be up there on my own in the wild, haha. Yes March has also been amazing for me and no midges then :-)

    This is about one of the most somptuous rides you have shown us to this day... Besides watching the map you show us briefly from time to time all along, is this a standard ride from which a gpx file can be got somewhere, and if not, can you remind us please which are the different stages you have followed in this occasion. Thanks a lot !

      Anyway... Wow !

      Hi Carlos, this was one I completely made up myself, I wanted to the Lairig Ghru, so based it around that. Also added a few nice historic Scottish towns and sights along the way, and then speyside way to the coast and then worked around from there to Aberdeen, and then really wanted to back to Glen Doll. Then Fife costal path back round to Edinburgh.

    Well done Barry keep up the good work. You passed through my home town Banchory on the Deeside Way.
    Pity about the sickness and hope it didn't dampen the trip.
    Another great mini movie from you. 👍🏻 🚴

      Haha, Yes I may of not been in straight mind cycling through your home town, but it was a beautiful track and did have a lovely stop and lunch at Drum Castle, worth the dive off course

    Great video again! The Fife coastal path is mostly rid-able, just the bit between St Andrews and Crail is the bad bit, But I hear there might be some improvements to come on that section.

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Rob! Thanks, yes that bit was a little challenging to ride, haha, but then probably was the most beautiful bit, loved the camp spot I had down there, stunning evening.

    What bike are you using to do all your bike packing?

    • @innocentiuslacrim2290
      @innocentiuslacrim2290 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is Genesis Longitude. I found this channel due to that bike. There are so few reviews of it: I found one by Davide Travelli when he travelled through Africa by it, and Google found this channel due to my review search.

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nick, It is the first year they made the Longitude, so I can run the 29x3'' tyres. It is an incredible machine and rides so well

    Excellent journey. I'm curious though. What food supplies do you take with you? And do you use a stove?. I'm planning my first ever bikepacking trip this year in the Scottish borders and the hebrides in July.

      I was thinking the same thing... but it definitely wasn't steak (9:10) perhaps we should all be aiming higher on our expectations 😁

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I use 'Adventure food' dried food, very tasty after a long day on the bike, and is just add hot water. So on the stove I just heat water for coffee, porridge, cuppa soup and dinner and then its porridge in the morning.
