YA! “Ach du lieber, mein schatz”! This great music doesn’t lack for “big excitement”! When I was in my high school band in Chicago (1954-1958; I’m 82 now!), I was the first clarinetist in my last year, & this was the music we played in the band competition. We got top rating! I was the “voice or cry” of Till just before he was hanged! Exciting schtooff for me back then!!! The first clarinetist (?) sitting next to the bassoonist - he sure looks like the “twin brother” of the principle clarinetist in the Frankfort Radio Orchestra! Or were both these players the same people?! Need to go back to that orchestra to see. Wonderful performance & great soloists! “Gesundheit”!
One of the cleverest, funniest musical works ever written. The sheer variety of effects and moods derived from the opening few bars is geinus.
