Due to the lack of transport to return home Dad was on Morotai for a further Eight Months. They made good use of the jeeps with Aviation Fuel on the Airfields.
Well the main danger with asbestos is inhalation of fibers, which get caught in the lungs and cause all sorts of problems. It's actually probably safer in grease form.

My Australian grandfather was an army cook there so I recently found out. But after the fighting was well over. I think riding 1945.
I usually cook with asbestos grease however I had no idea you could use it to protect engine parts. Who knew?
