He is doing great. A healthy calf. Reach out to a rescue and they would take him. Our blind calf was used as a 4H steer buddy Corral looks great. Time is never enough eh
I find this is my favorite Channel on TH-cam from my small condo in Southern California as a 71 year old woman. I love his energy and his desire to do what he wants for his future life and that his wife is in support
Two comments: It is surprising how great the corral looks with scraping the manure to a pile. Second, it is great to see your daughter and to see how much she has grown. Thanks for the video.
My husband and I love seeing your videos. My spoiled heifers waiting to calf made me find your videos and we're hooked. Love seeing you little girl helping. Tell mom to bake up some homemade soft horse treats for the animals all of you will get a blast watching them enjoying the goodies. Keep up the good work.
I finished out a couple of blind calves and we've sold a couple as feeders. In my experience they've been just a touch slower to finish, but once they're in a pen with a bunk nearby and they find out where the feed and water is, they do just fine. If he's otherwise healthy and has an appetite, and if it were me in the same spot, I'd leave him on milk replacer for his 8 weeks or whatever it is, get him started on calf starter early, and either sell him as a feeder or finish him in a relatively confined environment. May do fine on pasture- but I think they prefer to know their surroundings and may not enjoy a rotating pasture system (and might make it a headache for you too).
Your daughter is precious! The calf came a long way, I hope you can help him and you won’t have to put him down. Cali is so fun to watch! Have a good day!
my grandpa used to go to barns and pickup cows that were crippled or blind. It was not about money, he just felt bad. He raised these calves and my grandma had to take over and sell them for some money.
I am glad you'll give the little guy a chance at life! He looks healthy and lively and if the rest of the herd accepts him he should be okay and enjoy many days in the son and lots of green grass. :)
Years ago, I was told my grandpa bought a pair of bottle calves, one of which was blind. Grandpa put a bell on one and the blind calf learned to just follow the sound. Raised until either they butchered or sold. Just an idea as to maybe an idea of incorporating sound with him thriving. Great video!
Don't give up on him ..😞I praise you for being caring and patient with him. Another thing the other cows will help him by nudging him and might have some sight so there's still hope Farmer Tyler. There's caring folks who would take him as well. Your daughter is adorable. 👍💮🎠🐮
I enjoy the way you depict life on your ranch in a realistic manner.Lots of what some might consider mundane tasks, however ALL VERY VITAL to the operation of the ranch. The calf seems to be doing well, however quality of life is important. What a dilemma. Best of luck.
Hey there Tyler, I hope you're all well and good! I liked the dueling banjos (Deliverance) 😨 Unfortunately it looks like you're off to a dry start, as are some others. That little calf will probably try to suckle some of those fresh cows if they'll let him, or they may kick or butt him, which wouldn't be good for him, or if he is able to suckle, it could have a detrimental effect on their own calves, if they run short on milk. Lots of different scenarios, and none of them are very good. I admire you for spending your time with him, and no matter what happens, no one can fault you for not trying. 👍 I hope y'all have a good one! 🐂👍🇺🇸
The corral looks great. I do hope the best for the little cow. I hope his vision turns out to be okay. At least well enough to live for a few more years.
We had a blind steer we raised up to weight. We made a pen for him walked him around it every day gave him another steer for a friend. Did just fine as long as things stayed the same. If u tried to turn him out he wouldn't move. Also there are places that would take them like your local zoo or sanctuary.
Had a bottle calf one time with cloudy eyes and could not see good. We took LA 200 and held his eyes open while we squirted some in his eyes. It helped his vision and the cloudiness tremendously.
Oh my Mr. Tyler your daughter is beautiful 🤗💕🎉 And I'm glad that you want to try everything you can to help the little calf before any final decisions are made. Thank you for today's video I enjoyed it😁👍🏼🎉
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 I love watching Cali romping, sniffing, and exploring. She certainly is certainly living a wonderful life on the ranch. Great camera angles today. So sad about the calf-you have a difficult decision to make 💔
A fantastic video Farmer Tyler !!!! I can tell your little daughter has a kind heart like her Daddy.....I can't get over how she has grown, absolutely adorable. I can actually say you give your well-loved animals 1st, 2nd, etc. chances to somehow overcome any disability they have and, I like that ! Thanks for being such a good person....Sincerely, Nancy 😊
OMG! That is the best I have heard your daughter talking on camera! She looks a lot like you. She is so gentle with “ bull calf”. He looks good, but I agree, he is at least mostly blind. If you don’t want to raise him as a feeder, maybe reach out to a local rescue. Whatever you do, I will be for the best for the calf. You are a good man.
Lovely skies and clouds shots. I hope you get some rain soon. What kind of trees are blooming by the fence where the big branch fell? Your guitar picking really complements your video footage. I see that you have another helper besides Callie. Your daughter is really sweet and chatty too! You did well getting the cows and the calves moved. There is one thing that is harder to herd than calves…. Ever try to herd cats? Next to impossible! You have given the bottle calf lots of TLC,. You have lots of tricks up your sleeve and you are very practical in applying them, and evaluating the results. Good luck, stay well and safe! Snowed today here in SW Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 But spring is just around the corner!🇨🇦 😃
Wish I had an irrigation system like yours Tyler. I depend on the rain and the weather in general. This last rain was maybe to little to late, but I count my blessings just the same. I'm off to the bull sale this weekend with a few of my boys, they got some work to do out there on some greener pastures.
We’ve bottle raised blind calves in the past to get old enough to wean and then feed up to butcher. While that may not be a popular opinion, we see it as giving the animal a purpose in life and all the time and energy put into being made by the cow is utilized. Perhaps reach out to someone else if you don’t have the time to bottle feed or don’t want to spend the money to raise him. I know 4-h kids or FFA kids are already doing it. If they raise it along with their project and their parents want it for the freezer, it would be a good fit.
Tyler I had a Jersey calf that was blind when I got him at three days old. It took about two months and his sight came back. I bottle feed him and put three way grain with him right away he would eat the grain and his bottles every day. He did just fine being blind for awhile until his sight came back. The cause was a long labor. Same with this calf. Wish I was in your area I would help. Great video. You can always reach out to me I have no problem helping people.
I wonder if Davis has any research going on about blindness or know of some one, or group, that would interested in him. Amazing how great the corral looks after a lot of scraping!!. Never enough time in the spring to get all the chores done in the time frame that you have😫. Cows and calves are really looking good.
Looking good 👍. You take such good care of your animals. I was glad to see the bottle calf up on his feet and drinking but very sad to see he is blind. I don't envy you for the decision you have to make, that's going to be a tuff one. But I am sure whatever you decide it will be for the best, because I know you will have exhausted every possibility of making him comfortable in his surroundings and this is what's best for him. God bless you and your family and stay safe.
I suppose the dryness is good for keeping the pen in good shape. I've raised blind lambs and they did well. They were kept in a smaller pen where they learned where feed and water was.
Great video.. great work…just remember world can’t exist without farmers Greetings from Romania.. you are inspiring me on my small holding I have over here… loving
Your daughter can learn loads from the calf. She can grow up with him as her project. He would be best not to be around too many adult cattle yet, they would sense his issues and alienate him to the herd and eventually kill the weak link.
This makes me just want to Cry. I am so saddened by it. U take great care of it Animals, and this is so sad. I know u do whatever u can Tyler, thank u for sharing!
He looks really healthy. Hopefully he'll handle the herd, if not, like you mentioned you will have to make that decision. What about the Asher House Sanctuary. He has a great You Tube channel as well. Check it out.
Boy has that lil girl grown and is becoming the number one ranch hand too LOL The lil calf is growing for sure. Afraid you have some hard decisions in the future FTR.
The corral looks fantastic now after some scraping. I sure hope the little calf continues to improve, but I know it's a lot of extra work. Cutest little helper ever!
Maci's so smart, and her Sprague is so clear!! I loved it when she was petting the calf and saying "he's a good boy" over and over again while she was petting him was soooo adorable! Are you willing to give the calf to Maci ? That's how most of the 4h kids get their start. We had a calf that the mom died, and his name was red. He would literally follow my sister in the paddock sucking on her hand. He never let anything nor anyone attempt to get close to my sister. I just think it's sad that you might put him down when I'm sure he'd be a great companion for Maci! I've just got a soft spot in my heart for animal misfits (disabled, sick, etc...) I guess because I'm in the same place as then... a misfit! I was hit by a car going 75 mph, and I was only 6 yrs old. In 58 now and am still gimpy but when one sense goes bad, all others heighten . I know your not a pet farmer but a calf won't be too much trouble huh?!?
We finished a blind calf last year on 430 acres with old fence lines everywhere. His mom raised him up just fine and he figured out the way to water and seemed to keep up just fine. He was definitely slower to gain than the other calves but he did fine. Coyotes didn't seem to bother him too bad either.
Hello think what I'd do with him is raise him in a pen till at some point big enough to go the butcher. One of thouse things as he grows he will figure things out. Have a good day
Mentioning the cows scratching reminds me of two videos. The first time with tdf honest farmer and his scratching location for dairy cows, the second with Tom Pemberton who has almost 7 million views for the installation of an outside cattle brush for a 100 head herd.
Wow the corral looks wonderful.. I sure hope you don't have to put the little bottle cast down down. Maybe maybe you could give it to a rescue If it comes to that
Great seeing your daughter. The corral was so much better. I remember a few months ago when you were building that fence, which looks great, by the way. Hey, as for the calf, I feel for you. It’s a tough decision. Whatever you decide for yourself, your family and the calf. It is great that it can hear, it is growing pretty well, it’s just blind. Needs to be with other cows that I totally agree with, being a herding animal. I hope that works. Just please let us know what you decide. Thanks! Always good to see your video! God bless you and your family, and your farm.
You need to teach calli to help pick up sticks. If you decide you can't keep calf, is it old enough to be used for veal? Maci is so cute, looked a bit sleepy. Thanks again for a wonderful video. Hope you get rain soon.
I cannot lie i had to fast forward to see how the bottle calf was doing but I’ll go back to watch the rest . Your daughter is absolutely adorable. ❤️ Hard decision what to do with the calf. I don’t envy you having to decide. I wonder how much cows use their vision for basic stuff like eating and drink. I wonder since cows with their eyes set off to the side of their heads don’t really use them to look for food, just approaching predators. ?
The corral looks great! It is very visible the grass in the pasture where the cows were was brown and the pasture that was aerated field was now green! I hope the bottle calf does okay in the corral, only time will tell. Great vid sir!
Good job on the corral and tough choices ahead for the little calf. Last year i had a cow have a set of twins, one was born dead and one of them was blind. It’s eyes didn’t seem properly developed. I put the bind calf down after a couple days as I knew it wouldn’t have any quality of life. Your calf has a bit more going for it than mine did.
Tyler, could the calf have an eye infection? Or could he go to a rescue or be adopted by one of your faithful followers? If I lived closer than Indiana I’d love to adopt him, he is adorable. Or maybe a 4-H project ? Maybe a companion for Buddy? He could bond with Buddy and follow him around. I’m sure many of us would volunteer financially for his care, I will. Could we see how he does with Buddy before we do something more drastic. But at least he is doing better.
A farmer never has enough time to do all he wants. Just enjoy what you can do. You have a beautiful little one. Any time for a baby brother for her? Don't tell your wife I asked! lol
Hi. Someone beat me to it... I was going to suggest contacting the local 4H club for a home for your bottle baby. I think he'd make a great project for a beginner 4H 'er. We love your lifestyle/channel. Take care!
Well it sounds like you already got a plan for the calf and looks like you're getting attached to it a little bit also I would keep him and give him a chance cuz everything else is he's doing so good n your daughter she really likes him too.
Tyler instead of putting him down, see if he can be rehomed to a rescue group or someone who will raise n love him so he can have a great life. He was already shorted in life.
My opinion. Put him in a smaller pen. Feed him out as fare as he can go. He will make a great private sale for freezer camp. We have cripple animals. They make it to serve their purpose. Cattle so ridiculously high in the Midwest.
I would talk to your vet, it almost feels like a nurilogical issue, like lysteria. Lysteria would mean the critter only turns left. ( Not what you have) Very cute family
Of course, time has passed and choices have been considered and already resolved at this date. (video is 2 yeard old). Offering the calf to a rescue facility would take the calf off his hands and pass responsibility elsewhere. Cut losses and move on.
Since you're short on grass, I'd put wheels under him, his mom, and that cow that had stillborn (Mar-Apr is best cow prices of the year). Might also consider getting him out of that trailer so he learns to walk better-- some exercise and mental stimulation. If you can get him looking half-way robust, he'll sell surprisingly well. Just need enough to convince the buyer he ain't gonna die on him. I would get some calf starter so he can eat during the day when you're at work He needs more calories and it's cheaper than milk replacer. That ain't some dairy bottle calf-- he's got value!
A blind calf that you would have to bottle feed several times a day. I don't know how that can possibly work for any period of time when time is one of the things you have the least of. I think the handwriting is on the wall . . . .
Your little helper is adorable! I enjoyed watching your video and seeing you care for the cows.
Your daughter is adorable!!! Best wishes with the calf!!! He's definitely come a long way!!! Stay safe!!

They have antibiotic eye ointments for eye infections. They aren't that expensive. It didn't occur to me that he may be dealing with an eye infection.
At this point, probably worth a try! Thanks
Oh my Mr. Tyler your daughter is beautiful 🤗💕🎉 And I'm glad that you want to try everything you can to help the little calf before any final decisions are made. Thank you for today's video I enjoyed it😁👍🏼🎉

Nice to see how much your daughter has grown. What a difference a box scraper can do. As for the calf at least your trying.

I suppose the dryness is good for keeping the pen in good shape. I've raised blind lambs and they did well. They were kept in a smaller pen where they learned where feed and water was.
Great video.. great work…just remember world can’t exist without farmers
Greetings from Romania.. you are inspiring me on my small holding I have over here… loving
Rather than putting him down. Offer him to your youtube subscribers. People would love it. You could even do a drawing if too many want him.
Your daughter can learn loads from the calf. She can grow up with him as her project. He would be best not to be around too many adult cattle yet, they would sense his issues and alienate him to the herd and eventually kill the weak link.
Great video thanks for sharing I hope you guys get rain soon I feel bad for you and your family and. Mike at our wyoming life .
OH MY GOSH, SHE IS ADORABLE 🥰
Wow your little girl is growing and so cte! The calf will do fine I think with the others. They learn to adapt really fast.
I think so too.
This makes me just want to Cry. I am so saddened by it. U take great care of it Animals, and this is so sad. I know u do whatever u can Tyler, thank u for sharing!

You need to teach calli to help pick up sticks.
If you decide you can't keep calf, is it old enough to be used for veal?
Maci is so cute, looked a bit sleepy.
Thanks again for a wonderful video.

I hope the Calve is moving & walking on his own., I know you are doing your best 6-19-2022👍🏽👍🏽
The corral looks great! It is very visible the grass in the pasture where the cows were was brown and the pasture that was aerated field was now green! I hope the bottle calf does okay in the corral, only time will tell. Great vid sir!
I always enjoy the acoustic riffs when I'm a crabass 😂
Haha! Oh my gosh so cute!!! Confident you'll make the right decision. Gotta be tough
Wish you had a nice loader for that blue tractor. I can see you using that all the time.
It looks like congenital cataracts - Mrs. NG (former opthalmic tech)
Thanks 😊
Hope the wee calf makes it
Your little girl is sooooo cute.
good job y'all I know you will do what needs to be done

Well it sounds like you already got a plan for the calf and looks like you're getting attached to it a little bit also I would keep him and give him a chance cuz everything else is he's doing so good n your daughter she really likes him too.
He will make it, but I'm afraid of what I see in his lack of vision, it will be laborious and expensive to feed out. GL!!
Hi, could the calf have pink eye or an eye infection? Could you have a vet look at him first? Best wishes to your farm family.
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
Your daughter is a cutie. Feed the calf and raise him for you in two years.
( Not what you have)
Very cute family
Holstein/milkcow 'nurse' cow for a season?
What state are you located in?
You might have mentioned this before, is there a reason you don’t live on the ranch? Someone in the house or some other reason?
Just an idea...if you have an animal "rescue" in your area, could you give your blind boy to them?
You have to name the bull calf Stevie lol or Ray as in Ray Charles
Calf looks healthy. Think his vision could be corrected?
I can just see him with calf glasses :)
@@Wosiewose hahaha 😆
I don’t know. I have my doubts because I feel like he was born with this condition but hey I’ve been wrong before!
👍
A blind calf that you would have to bottle feed several times a day. I don't know how that can possibly work for any period of time when time is one of the things you have the least of. I think the handwriting is on the wall . . . .
