- IT IS FINALLY DONE. HEYYYYYYYY
i am SO unbelievably excited to share this animation, this video is the first long project i’ve done (besides maps) since Delivery (which was in Dec. 2021). this is also FINALLY an animation about PARTNERS IN CRIME!!! BRIAN AND TERRI!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAUGH
Partners in crime is a story between me and the bestie @thelovelyladylil that we have been developing for literally 4 years now since we were 13, and it is still going STRONG. we are so extremely passionate about this story and would love to go further with it someday, so stay tuned :))
I am so excited about this animation because I took on a lot of things that I haven’t done before/haven’t attempted in a long time, such as crazy ass fight scenes and different perspectives and impact frames and just long animations in general. I hope you enjoy! Read further down if you are interested in the characters/story!
I also think I am going to do a progress video about this if anyone would be interested, where I can point out some intentional details/symbols and also show the storyboards and progress. If I do make that video I will link it here!
this is technically the How Did You Love Animation Meme, but I went so far off the original concept that I’m just calling it an animation, however the original and my inspiration for starting this project are linked below!!

STORY/CONTEXT:
This revolves around my character, Terri Serrano- an ex-streetfighter (however this takes place during the streetfighter arc) struggling with a lot of her own personal issues, having lost people she loved and losing a lot of herself along the way. Until she meets Brian Ballare, @thelovelyladylil 's character- he also had a difficult upbringing but after years of recovery is in a place to help Terri back on her feet, and away from her streetfighting career.
The tyrannical leader of the streetfighting organization, Malik Figueroa, utilizes Terri’s skills to generate revenue from people betting against her. He cares about money and himself only, much to Terri’s demise, as the job takes a massive physical and mental toll on her.
This is only a teeny tiny tidbit of the whole story, this just helps explain some of the lore behind this animation. Stay tuned for future content about these guys :))) HUEHEUHEHGEGHEHGEHGHGEHGE

I seriously cannot stop watching this. I love the detail that she only has eyes when he's looking at her because only he really sees her as a person, but then in the last scene one of her eyes is almost swollen shut as he looks at her with disappointment.
I’m struggling to summarize just how stunning this video is in words, so I’m just going to go one scene at a time
The motif of Terri’s animalistic eyes, the use of bright glowing yellow to emphasize important symbols and items, the frame-by-frame animation and the FIGHT SCENES, OMG
I absolutely adore the perspectives and angles you experiment with, especially in the first shot when we see Terri from the perspective of the person who lost the fight. I LOVE the motif of her animalistic eyes which appear while she’s fighting. The vignette and her expression really highlight how menacing she is, almost inhuman
We see dollar bills which are bright yellow and glowing, which distract from the silhouette of Brian in the background; she is letting her desire for glory and money surpass her love for Brian, “you could let the light of the world blind you, bathe you in grace”
As she takes a few breaths, we get a slow and menacing introduction to the REAL threat, Malik Figueroa, as HE is the one in possession of the golden money, not Terri. He is the one solely benefitting off of her fights.
Brian tries to bargain with her (and we get some lovely secondary-animation of Terri washing her face in the sink) and we see how the bright yellow is used to accentuate the concept that Brian is ‘an angel of mercy’ whilst Terri is the complete opposite. Brian is everything that Terri isn’t
The animation of Terri’s hair bouncing, of Brian running to catch up to her and Terri trudging past him, all feel very genuine and add to the buildup for the video’s climax
Before the fight we see Terri’s eyes return to the bright yellow animalistic ones, and we get some stunning impact frames and action marks which elevate the impact of the hits. The fight choreography is REALLY REALLY STUNNING and it’s fun to analyze the ways that Terri tries to take advantage of her small size in order to dodge and use her larger opponent’s weight against them
THEN once she looks out at the crowd, she sees Brian and her animalistic eyes return to normal, but it was this exact distraction that leads to her getting punched in the face. It perfectly illustrates that Brian is Terri’s one true ‘weakness’, and that if she lets her guard down for even a moment, she makes herself vulnerable to getting hurt
Her eyes then IMMEDIATELY flick back to being animalistic and expressionless, reminding us that the fight is far from over.
She grabs her opponent and manages to deliver a killing blow, and her boss leans in to observe more closely
The money comes falling in, but this time, contrasting with the first shot, she looks past the money and toward Brian, her eyes returned to normal. It not only shows how worried she is about him, but how unlike Figueroa, her desires are not superficial. We see the silhouettes of important figures in her life, her father, mother, adoptive mother, and finally Brian. Despite the fleeting moments of fame and glory, the only thing Terri has ever truly had is love.
Anyways, this is a work of art and I’m really really impressed by how gorgeous and fluid your animations have become, waa

I just discovered your channel with this video, first of all I have to say I found your animation style really captivating. A little bit of advice on the channel tho: Maybe you can consider making playlists with completed animations and group them into their own section. Like a playlist for OCs, another playlist for maybe Little Nightmares, I see many videos on your channel labeled with stuff like Part 3 or Part 13 and I have no idea where to start or which ones are connected. It can really help people who just discovered your channel - like me - navigate through your amazing art. Keep up the good work!

Anyway, Blu, I just really am so proud of you. Time and time again your animation improves and floors me with what you’re able to do. Getting to see your journey has been really exciting and I just feel so happy for you that you’re able to pull off what you can. Because you said this was an impulse animation, I know you were just in that animation sweet spot where all the motivation in the world is there, you know exactly what you’re doing, and you’re having FUN doing it. That’s the best thing in the entire world man, speaking from experience. Just, fuck, this is so good and I really think you’re going to be able to get into the professional industry one day.
To break down the animation on a more technical level, I’ll try my best lol. I know the colors come from Starry’s animation and maybe the original (?) but either way I still fucking love the aesthetic here. The dark reds and pinks convey all the brutal fighting Terri displays and the gold represents the money Figueroa gets from exploiting her. It’s also just so satisfying seeing Terri and Brian’s dynamic play out on screen, and how their relationship works. The shot at the end with Jack, Theresa, Esme and Brian’s silhouettes overlooking Terri is soooo fucking good man oh my god. I also think you experimented with compositing here with how the shadows and lighting look? Really awesome stuff either way. The contrast with Terri’s eyes between the downtime and the fighting is also soo fucking good. Love that touch.
And the fight choreography. Oh my god shut the FUCK UP MAN. I cannot stress enough how ON POINT and DYNAMIC it is. This is like the first time you’ve ever animated a fight scene (that I know of) and it’s so fucking good, I love how you can see Terri’s fighting style be influenced by her shorter size. Every punch and kick has so much weight around it and it is seriously so fucking impressive. Absolutely amazing. Shoutout to Terri for getting me attracted to women again.

BLU WTF THIS IS INCREDIBLE!! Your animation never fails to impress me. I especially love the shot at 0:26 because it shows each of their characters so well by contrasting everything about them - their expressions, the way they move, the angel and devil silhouette, but you can still tell they’re close. I’m also going absolutely WILD for the shot of Terri emerging with the feathered wings, she looks FERAL. Everything about this is so amazing and it’s clear how much time and effort went into it. This is LITERALLY AMAZING. I got chills during the fight scene, and I cannot emphasize enough how well done this is, every little detail. Plus, I'm a sucker for a tough woman brawling, so that was really awesome to see!!
oh woah this is BEAUTIFUL. the colors? the action?! i especially love how the gold stands against the darker pinkish magenta hues, they highlight all the action incredibly well and the polish is off the charts. breathtaking!
