What I'm hearing? I hear baroque, classic, romantic, the rouring twenties, ragtime, the blues, jazz, popmusic, modern music........simply: Viva Francis Poulenc!!!!!
The totality of the nuances of this sound architecture is like a flight in the Sublime, it is one of the most divine and evocative music I have ever listened to so far. It's played with a feeling of tremendous inner power. A delightful listening experience !
I've been looking for movement 1 for a long time, such beautiful and melancholy phrasing. Clearly Poulenc was as talented as the likes of Debussy and Ravel, shame he never gets the same recognition.
some of the Neoclassical stuff is so so great! I love how kind of controlled and "correct" it is, but with such looovverrrllyyyyyy extended chords and dissonance that you don't quite get with Haydn and Mozart. Absolutely the best of both, which is of course what was intended
You are very good and Poulenc is really brilliant. My choir sang "Les Tisserands" in quarantine style. Write this in the search: you will love it for sure! Corale Novarmonia - Les Tisserands (F. Poulenc)
+Dwbossa I think a lot of musicians plundered Poulenc and Prokofiev for melodies..because they were two incredible melodists. But, borrowings can be kitschy and otherwise. I think I hear references to Proko's "Scythian Suite" in the Star Trek original TV series... and check out Poulenc's "Valse" to see if it reminds you of the "To Kill A Mockingbird" theme.
The second one is slightly hard to memorize. To play it properly you are going to need some stretchy hands. The hardest part is all the dynamics and articulation. :(

To W. Djembe: yes! :-]
Génie...
Very good point. I hear a fusion of so many eras and styles when I listen to (and play) this adorable piece.
I truly admire and love Francis Poulenc. Both for this music and his life.

Magnifique surtout le dernier en Emin .Très mélancolique. Les harmonies sont à tomber ...
This piece is wonderful! French piano music at its most captivating! Thanks for this uplifting experience. I love it.
That last chord of the last movement..

+George Day Absolutely spot on :) A big helping of romantic and a sprinkle of jazz.
Beautiful music and performance.
Meraviglioso Poulenc!

Corale Novarmonia - Les Tisserands (F. Poulenc)
Poulenc channeling his Prokofiev with the b flat minor ;)
Quelles belles harmonies ! J ai une préférence pour la 3 ème .J adore Poulenc qui est un digne héritier de saint saens et Debussy
Beautiful; hard to fathom how 10 people have given this a thumbs down. They are outnumbered.
Philistines!
beautiful...
Lovely and rhythmic! I think that's how it should be :)
I think you're right.
te amo tantoPoulenc!!!!!
Magnificant

Cool, I play the first one only, although I want to try out the second and the third too.
Beautiful...anybody else hear the Beatles' Mother Nature's Son in Part I? I'm serious!!

Nice
Beautifully and sensitively played, though quite different from Poulenc's own more rapidly timed rendition, also on the 'tube.
:) thanks
Amazing, thx! :)
Love this piece! What's the name of the picture of the video.

The first two pieces are used to exam for diploma.
I know the 1st movement is Grade 8 standard, but I don't know anything beyond that.
may i ask who played this?

Can these pieces played like a modern piece?
Is there any way someone could send me the sheet music?
Does anyone knows the name of that beautiful painting?
+Miguel Ángel DELORENZI "La Place Valhubert" by Armand Guillaumin
For (3), did you use pedal ? If yes, how please?
I actually feel No 1 is played too fast - it gains a sensitivity if allowed to breath
+Marian Poole Agree
In fact, Poulenc's own rendering, also here on TH-cam, seems breathtakingly fast by comparison.
Does anyone know how difficult these are to play?
a bit difficult for small hands...I know..I find it hard to stretch for some of the bigger chords..
