Lighting the stove reminded me of my wife not being familiar with gas. She left the burner on on put a tea towel over the burner. She couldn't see the flame as it was a beautiful day and a healthy burner always burns blue. Daylight is blue - you easily cannot see a gas flame. You need contrast. Gas can be tricky to light outside, so either shield the piezoelectric or hold the saucepan lid over the burner, light it and swiftly drop the lid when you feel it getting too hot 😁 .
