I Prevail has two lead vocalists, Eric Vanlerberghe, who was doing the heavy vocals, and Brian Burkheiser, who was doing the cleans and chorus. This song is actually the first song the band has released since Brian recovered from surgery for a severe vocal injury that he suffered in October 2017, and according to him it almost forced him to quit the band. Also according to Brian the song came about because they wanted to get some aggression out on the music industry, and you can actually see some aspects in the music video where those guys, who I assume are supposed to be like music execs, trying to change Eric's "image" and a bit of a jab in there at bands who inexplicably decide to go in a more pop music direction. I am a big fan of this band. I initially discovered them when a cover of theirs of the Taylor Swift song Blank Space went a bit viral. And saw them live just before Brian's vocal injury in 2017. They are an amazing band and you should definitely checkout their previous album Lifelines. If you want a song from that album to react to, I'd suggest Scars, Come and Get It or the title track Lifelines. Also another band you should check out is Dangerkids, one of DK's vocalists actually helped produce I Prevail's upcoming album. A good song I'd suggest for them would be Blacklist.

My boyfriend's boss is the old drummers cousin and Brian's (the clean vocalist) sister used to work with him so it makes me feel really connected to this band. This song is a fucking JAM though.

I realize i'm over a year later for this reaction, but good work dude! I'm surprised I don't see this song requested anywhere, but if you wanna hear a little heavier from I Prevail, check out "Gasoline". The entire song is a tooth grinder.
You say near the end you hope they get heavier. They probably won't but they could find a nice halfway between this and lifelines meaning that they can grow their audience. They will have "radio friendly" songs like the one they released a couple of hours later "breaking down". Intrigues me with what they've gone with. Could be like adtr though and releasing the heavier song first.

My only problem with a lot of metalcore that comes out now is that the chorus’s are often very poppy and boy-band like. So I stick with my All that remains, Parkway, Killswitch, As I lay dying, and Shadows Fall. You know the basics
It's often too true, I know a lot of people that like clean choruses. For me metalcore is aggresive and comes from hardcore.. so a lot of times I do like the clean choruses but they need to be passionate and when their poppy, I lose interest, especially when the rest of the song is extremely heavy.
