One tip of my own... If you are building towers on sides than start your walls from there. Then you can place them without any problems.
with the outer airlock roof barricades, build a twig triangle and push the metal barricade out onto the twig a good portion, then destroy twig. im pretty sure it blocks twig from being built on roof but if it doesnt it makes it much much hard to build and jump around.
I do the same - I hate having that little lip someone can ladder up and stand on - overlap and hang it off the side, it is gonna suck to try and get on that roof.

You should need atleast 16gb ram and an SSD else you will regret playing rust.
Throw twig on the second floor facig out and you can place a barrier half way on it and the sheet metal. Then do knock out the twig and they can't ladder up. You can use this a pretty good ways out on all sides.
can you explain this a bit more don't really understand what you saying but it sounds pretty useful
@@fakedanielsong8954 on the top of your vase add a twig wall extending out. The. You can place a metal barrier on it and the tile that is part of the base. Once you destroy the twig, half of the barrier will be on your base and the other half hanging over the edge. This keeps people from using ladders straight up your base.
a good tip for people learning to do external tcs and how i learned when i first started, if u have no traps in your base (or you can empty them) de auth on your tc then go outside the building block zone and place it as close as you can that way ^^
Noob here. Mind elaborating why one wants to put the walls just outside of the privilege area? Doesn't that mean people can build right outside the wall and jump over?
@@scottbaumann7140 no that's why you build the extra triangles with TCS in them around the edge so they cant di that
For that gatehouse-type thing, there are designs on youtube that incorporate a gate into the build, so you still have that secure viewing area, but don't sacrifice durability.

You should be able to auth on a TC on the edge of building priv that just says "Open" by holding E. It should pop up in the wheel menu.
I'm pretty new, do you mind elaborating about the point of this? What the difference is with a TC that doesn't say auth automatically and what it means?
@@scottbaumann7140 There is no difference. It is a bug. The default E button authorizes on unauthorized TC. If you are authorized, it opens it.
If you stand on the very edge where your TC's building priviledge ends and place a new TC on the outside area, button E is still defaulted to 'Open' because you have building priviledge. Hence you need to hold E to open all interacting options and Authorize that way.
You can just walk outside the building priv and authorize on the new TC's area, but that might not be possible if you already had placed walls.
The reason I made the comment was to point out that you can actually authorize on an TC that you built "incorrectly". It confused me at first too.
main compact solo base
Drizzza, what if you put a lot of half walls on the "front gate base" and fill it with triangular thingies with spikes? You'll be able to ladder, but you won't be able to jump on top of the walls, right?

I saw another vid where someone put twig on that front sheetmetal entrance and was able to push the metal barricades out further, therefore preventing ladders to be set there. Then bust the twig out. I haven't tried it to see if it still works though.

you build those towers yet no cover on your gate either side or if they breach you cant see them in your compound cause your inner gates block your view...
The high external gate would make the towers pretty much pointless when raiders in compound...
So there is no point spawning into "defenses" bags and gearing up inside the towers for combat?
@@one234569and10 you could do, but it'd still be in bag range for main so once you take main bag all will be on timers if anything they'd be last stand rather than first defence imo

Seems good, but I personally avoid any other close defense structures besides just external tc’s, they can easily be taken over and turned into a raid base against you, but thats just my personal view.

The use of concentric rings of high external walls is fundamentally flawed because there is no difference in durability between gates and walls, Raiders will just attack from the direction which gives them the most cover. Therefore high external walls are best used to ether secure the largest possible area around your base or to restrict the range and field of view of a defensive positions at ground level.
i think the concentric rings was a result of the towers and the building mechanics. I agree with this but in game this would be raided by a heli after rockets get power down.
