Stepping Into Stories | Holman Prize Application Video 2018

- This video is my application and project pitch for the Holman Prize 2018, held by the San Francisco Lighthouse for the Blind.
The Holman Prize is a program developed to explore real blind ambition, to "spark unanticipated accomplishments in the blindness community", and to "change perceptions about what blind people are capable of doing." The program and prize are named in honor of James Holman (1786-1857, who was an explorer, adventurer, author, and blind individual who embodied adventure, an endless desire to learn, and a commitment to living life to its fullest--even if people thought he was crazy.
I am applying to the Holman Prize 2018 with a project that will allow me to "Step Into the Stories" of blind men and women: meeting, interviewing, and adventuring alongside 50-75 blind individuals throughout the United States and Canada, and creating a ten to fifteen minute TH-cam video sharing each individual's story, profession, hobby, and/or passion. If I visit a blind runner, I will (probably slowly) run alongside her. If I visit a blind surfer, I will (attempt to) surf alongside him. If I visit a blind chef, I will cook alongside her. And I will share their stories and passions through a TH-cam video of each adventure--showing the world that being "BLIND" does not keep us from adventure and exploration, and that we, as blind people, can do anything we are passionate about, just using different techniques along the way.
