He's basically the inverse of Shishido, Shishido fought like hell to Keep the yakuza Alive and Idolizes the Yakuza Dream while Ebina utterly Despises it.
Ebina also embodies some persona and similarity to Nishiki and Mine. He lost his only family member that mattered to him (like Nishiki and his sister, for Ebina his mother), he also worked hard to get to the top to realise his dream (the coop with Sawashiro, like Mine and Daigo) and also conspired with a blonde haired foreigner (Bryce Fairchild, like Black Monday's Andre Richardaon) And of course, his ultimate goal is the mirror opposite to that of Shishido, to hunt down any Yakuza no matter what it takes. (Which funnily enough, was Kiryu's girlfriend Kaoru main objective during Yakuza 2)
I was honestly surprised to not see Shishido and Nishitani III make an appearance in Infinite Wealth, maybe in the next one? But if they don't have Kiryu as a protagonist it won't feel the same, as Kasuga doesn't have anything to do with them 🤔
@@superkazuya3328Gaiden was made around the time IW was almost done. They literally made that side game in 6 months. It's also why it's so obvious that Hanawa's role in IW is like that, they didn't realize he'd garner that much fans in that time.
@@superkazuya3328characters that resemble their actors rarely make it past 1 game thats why they either are killed or never mentioned again its like an unwritten yakuza rule
Kasuga’s compassion is so inspiring. Eiji did so much wrong to him, ruined his life, lied to him, manipulated him, mocked him, and yet kasuga doesnt even have to think twice before carrying the man through an angry mob to keep him safe. If value inheres from life, then ichiban definitely has infinite wealth.
Ichiban is the type of person to go above and beyond for people, making sure they get put on the right path despite what they've done, if the person wants to atone and make amends. I look up to characters like him because it shows that not everyone deserves every bad thing that's coming for them. There are plenty of people in this world in which, despite the horrible things they've done, they can still try to set things right, if they allow themselves to want to set things right. The problem is, a bunch of people in this world refuse to let others make amends and atone, and rather see them get hurt or put to death. Infinite Wealth literally displayed that when ichiban was carrying Eiji to the police station, with all the bottles being thrown at the both of them, injuring them and being beaten, and the comment section is no different from that cutscene since I'm seeing some people in the comments of different videos, wishing for Eiji to be beaten more. It honestly makes me laugh at how people just refuse to let a person change and are sick and twisted enough to wish and want for them to be beaten and dead. That just makes the majority of society no better and no different then Eiji. I wish more people would be like Ichiban, otherwise, the world would be so much better then it is now if we just all came together to help someone who wants to make change and a difference.
Not gonna lie. While watching sequence of Ichi taking Eiji to jail through the mob almost made me really tear up. Also when you read the lyrics of the song playing- “The Invaluable” it really makes the scene all the more heartwarming and a tearjerker.
I don't know, the scene fell a little flat for me. Along the course of the game, not even once does Eiji show any sign of remorse or doubt about his actions as long as his plans are going smoothly, unless I missed anything. He really seems to enjoy having played with Ichiban every step of the way, as well as all the pain he inflicted on Lani and Akane. It is only after he's alone, cornered and out of options that he realizes he screwed up. I'd agree if we'd seen some sign that he regrets what he's caused before this scene, but as it is, I find it quite hard to feel sympathy for him, nor understand why the hell Ichiban forgives him so easily when he put in danger a lot of people he really cares about. About Ichiban, while I agree that his selflessness putting others above himself like here protecting Eiji in the ending is indeed inspiring, the fact that no matter how much they played with him and endanger his loved ones, he is instantly willing to forgive and forget without a moment's hesitation prevents me from appreciating the character as much as I do Kiryu, whose kindness always felt way more grounded and limited to people who really had done well by him.
@Roberdrake74 That's why Ichiban is considered by some characters in the series as a rare find. He chooses not to let hatred get to him, he chooses not to have a grudge against the people that did him dirty like Eiji for example, because he himself knows that hating on Eiji and wishing for his suffering wouldn't change a thing. It'd make him no better then Eiji himself and the rest of the people that did Ichiban dirty. Ichiban sees the best in people and knows that anybody can change if they allow themselves and have a want to change. Just because Eiji hasn't showed signs earlier of wanting to change doesn't mean that he can't be remorseful now. Yeah, he may have started feeling remorseful when he got cornered, but that in no way means that he doesn't feel remorse over all, otherwise he wouldn't have agreed to turn himself in, but he did because of Ichibans influence and seeing the best in people, causing Eiji to feel remorseful for his actions and is willing to take the next step to atone. That's what makes this scene beautiful. To put it in different perspective, some people in this society would say "oh this person only feels sorry because they got caught and consequences are happening to them" which yeah, I'm not denying that there are people out there that only feel remorseful cause they got caught, but that's not always the case. Some people do feel genuine remorse even after getting caught, especially when the consequences that are happening to them allows the individual to think more clearly as to what lead them to this predicament, and why they have chosen the path in life they have chosen, amongst other things down to thinking about the people they have hurt in their life. At the end of the day, we don't truly know whether or not they feel remorse UNLESS the person decides to take action and society see's the action thats being taken. The fact Eiji agreed to turn himself in is all the proof we need as the audience that he wants to change and do better in life. We don't get a lot of people like Ichiban in society who sees the best in people and wants to help those who have fallen in the deep end, no matter how bad the person is. Instead, society chooses to hate, beat, harass, and kill those that they deem unworthy when the people in society themselves are no better and no different, which makes it all hypocritical in my eyes. Plus, it's easier for society to hate on others instead of help, and people sadistically take pleasure in violence against others and give themselves an excuse to be violent against those society is treating as garbage.
my mom died while I was still at the beginning of the game and playing through it has been a really good coping mechanism. But this ending crushed me, it fucked me up, thank you RGG
Hell even when Saejima says " open your damn eyes Kiryu " just basically everyone saying his name during that cutscene just a rollercoaster of emotions
Did you even play both the games ? He's nothing like Nishiki. Instead the games keeps on repeating how he's more similar to kiryu but still his own person.
@@bruhwereinacarexhaustIs it really pretentious if the comparisons are just outright incorrect? It would be like me comparing Majima and Big Boss' (from Metal Gear Solid) personalities to each other, because they both have eyepatches. Would it be right for me to call someone pretentious if they said my comparison was wrong? amito is right. Nishiki was essentially just a basic friend. I don't think there was ever a point in Yakuza 0 where he was balls to the wall about friendship and giving people second chances... I mean, the guy even took Kiryu out of town to kill him; doesn't sound like something Ichiban would do, EVER.
This game made me cry four times 1. The beginning with Ichiban helping the Ex Yakuza 2. Kiyru saying he has cancer 3. Ichiban and Akane's reunion 4. The entire ending from Ichiban forgiving Ei Chan and seeing Haruka again Yah this is game of the year for me
Thank you for being the only person on TH-cam to not mute the song in the background for fear of copyright. The song really makes the whole scene of Ichiban carrying Eiji beautiful.
There are SO many things I love about this ending. - It humanizes Ebina, he's not totally evil, nor is he good - There was a tiny voice in him that wanted to be saved. He's like many things in this game, a gray zone. - Ichiban's relationship with Eiji, It's a parallel to how he redeemed Masato but this time we get to see it flourish. Eiji slowly breaking down, Ichiban protecting him from the world and assuring him that forever and always they will be pals despite what Eiji has done to him - Because god damnit Ichiban is just that good of a person. - Kiryu's ending, though I doubt this is the last we'll see of him, this ending perfectly rounds out his character. We don't get to see him reunite with Haruka but that'll be seen in the future and most poetic of all is that the Man who Erased his name finally stops running from his problems. Kiryu knows he fucked up as soon as he left the Tojo to Daigo and is making amends, people want to see Kiryu live to face the sins of the Tojo head on, to finally rectify the wrongs he's done and so he starts off with choosing to live and to finally FINALLY reclaim his name. I love this game, best 100+ hours of my life.
ebina not getting eefin brutalized and killed is one of the two reasons this ending was garbage 2nd reason is ichiban being treated like garbage carrying that other effin garbage human being 10/10 game but 2/10 ending The ending completely ruined the entire experience ABSOLUTE TRASH ENDING Off the top of my head I cant think of a single game that had a more garbage ending than this game
@@eternalchamp3882 Yakuza, especially in the RPG games have always been about "gray zones". Where criminals are neither good or bad and just stay in the middle. It shows that even if a character is "le bad" they have atleast one redeeming quality about it and Ichiban being just that good of a person, if he can help it he'll see through their redemption. I understand that this is like the 8th or so Yakuza game where they pull the "but the villain was actually not that bad and they can be saved" but I admire the scenes not for Ebina or Ei-chan but for what makes Kiryu and Ichi so special. Kiryu breaks down and begs Ebina to not hurt any of Yakuza showing his regret of leaving the clan in the hands of a child rather than a legend like him resulting in many MANY mistakes that eventually birthed Ebina. Then Ei-chan who even after shitting on Ichiban the entire game, Ichiban being SUCH a good person will still hope to redeem him and he will see through the end to see Ei redeem himself, just like how he was willing to do so for Masato. Wish they delved more into Ebina and Ei. But the ending just highlighted why I love our two dragon boys. Also for me the game with the worst ending was definitely 4. Fights were great dont get me wrong and I love the main characters but that games story was not it. Theres a reason we make fun of rubber bullets
@@sora.7973 what do you mean ebina and eiji are not that bad and that they have redeeming qualities. NONE OF THEM show qualities throughout the entire game. Point me towards one scene where either of them show to have any qualities whatsoever. Eiji is a salty p.o.s and Ebina is a trash human who blames everything around him even those who are not at fault. The only person that tard Ebina should be blaming is his dumbass mother and grandfather. Literally nobody else was to blame for everything that went wrong. They are absolute garbage people. Ebina is just as bad as Bryce is not worse. The idea thta you had a crappy past doesnt excuse turning into an absolute garbage human being.
What a story to follow from Yakuza 0 to 9. And for those interested in trying this game out, yes, they ALL do connect one way or the other. Which is pretty fantastic. "Bon voyage!" What a sweet moment.
Definitely one of the more tragic Yakuza villains. How would you feel if a man that everyone else revered as a fucking hero ruined your life and left your mother to die, and you didn't even get the chance to take your revenge on them? And you see everyone you saw as your brothers turn your back on you, too, and only now they're talking about honest lives and brotherhood once their power is gone? You'd be livid at their hypocrisy!
The way Kiryu pleaded with Ebina just broke me. It’s amazing how Ebina’s silence did a complete 180 on my opinion on him. Iwami was a scumbag piece of garbage that I took great pride in seeing Kiryu punch him in the face. I thought Ebina was a slimy weasel that was going to get what he deserved, but seeing him lay there in silence made me feel like Kiryu’s words actually got through to him. Like, he’s definitely capable of redemption. Just another person lost and set on the straight and narrow thanks to Kiryu.
@thebudgetdev6591 It's confirmed that almost nobody believes he's dead, especially his kids. The problem is that we all wanted to see that moment when Kiryu reunited with Haruka and the other kids, but it just happens off screen and feels kind of cheap...
@@spaghettimkay5795personally I think that whole scene was done very well, it is a nod to how some other endings are where you know everything is in its place and you don’t need to see it to know it’s there.
If Kiryu does have his name back then he can finally have that true drink with Kashiwagi as kashiwagi- we’re likely never seeing him fight again though 😢
He has a nice parallel to Iwami story wise; Both Ebina and Iwami hated their fathers but for their own different reasons. Ebina grew up despising the yakuza. Iwami grew up wanting to be a yakuza.
notice at 14:40, ebina didnt even look at the other party members attacking him. He’s only focus on taking down Kiryu. Might not be the most developed character for a final boss, but that small detail alone is pretty neat
The next game better be : Like a Dragon the Man who Retired It better be exclusively be kiryu wheelchairing around to his cancer treatments, spending time with family, passing on his fighting style to kasuga, and meeting all the characters from his substories. No fighting enemies at all, just a slice of life game.
Its a shame that this game had very little to do with Kasuga's mum given we spend so much of the game looking for her. She isn't in the ending Loved the hell out of the game though
In my opinion, Ebina's definitely up there with the best RGG villains. I mean, his plan is evil, rounding up the ex-yakuza with false hopes and sending them to their doom with no chance at redemption. Like, I completely get his motive. In a way, he's doing the Japenese society a favor by getting rid of twisted criminals, but then again, he isn't even giving them a chance at redemption and doing it only for his personal vengeance. Kinda like Kuwana, I completely get why he became what he became and why he is doing all this.
I see him how sort of the world sees the yakuza, most people would say they just ruin people's lives, and the world would be better off without them. All the talk of glory, tradition and bonds is just a lie they feed themselves, if even a hate so justified as Ebina can forgive the yakuza, maybe Kiryu can forgive himself for his sins.
@@24_Hour_Majima I would dare say that the BBEG from 7 was Yakuza Hitler, though, that with his idea of “Cleansing the streets from undesirables” and the like
It's never too late to atone for something you've done, that people should always have the right to make amends and rebuild their life from scratch, without being torn apart by a modern society uninterested in any rehabilitation but just want the next target they can chew out for sport Ichiban forgave Tomi, Chitose and Yamai, which in turn allowed them all to face up to their sins and atone for what they did, and changed their own lives for the better. Just like how ex-Yakuzas have a right to live a normal life if they pay their dues and not be discriminated against by the 5 year clause (which is a real thing). The game ties all those themes together so well, a poignant message in an age full of mob culture who cancel people as a blood sport

@sosleepy512on the point about sawashiro I think it's something to note that he could have finished him off as they got there, he only needed the intial bait but at least for me there's a key detail about it being used as subtext, at the end of the fight with ebina he's still holding the punch, dedicated to beating kiryu but then with one last grasp of strength kiryu sends him flying and I think the next shot of sawashiro is why he was able to win (in the metaphorical sense) because despite getting back up after everything there was still some deep seeded part of him that hesitated to kill sawashiro and thus one tiny part of him that kiryu could still beat in a fight and reach with his voice
the fact that kiryu got little screen time in the end def was a cliffhanger. like they're def setting up for the next game. there's so many possibilities/outcomes for kiryu's future. we know kiryu is very persistent and always takes matter into his own hands so i wont be surprised if he beats cancer and keeps kicking ass til he's 90 with nothing holding him back. i really wanna see that. but the most realistic outcome for sure is he lives peacefully for the rest of his life or eventually dies from cancer. whatever happens, i hope he gets the outcome he deserves.
I do believe they're gonna have him recover in some way or another, otherwise they would've just let him die that very dignified death on top of ebina. But Yokoyama said Kiryu won't be an action protagonist anymore, and Kiryu promises to never be associated with Kasuga again, otherwise the daidoji will kill Date. I really don't know, but I didn't like that final cutscene. It was just cruel to show Kiryu like this.
Sadly I don't think he's ever recovering from this, didn't he have like 6 months left at the start of infinite wealth? A month went by plus he almost died after fighting Ebina, yeah he's persistent but he's probably dying for real this time
I do think they'll probably let Kiryu die from his cancer but if that is the case then we need a scene of him either in a hospital bed with everyone around him and by that I mean the kids from the orphanage and obviously everyone from the this game. Or! If not in a hospital bed maybe they can think of a way for him to pass away at Morning Glory with everyone there around him. Those kids have to see him again at some point. I can't imagine they would just kill him off unceremoniously. But who knows
@@halepivot7530 who knows? Cancer is weird. And with the current development of medicine we can see Kiryu either making a low chance of recovery or at least having his life expectancy extended so that he can be with his family for a longer time.
Absolutely amazing performance on Ebina here. Much better than other playthroughs I've seen. Finally someone uses more perks of the updated combat than just same skills over and over
Saeko was mean asf to not speak to ichiban for such a long time. There was barely any romance between them either, the chemistry wasn't there. It didn't feel right. He somehow had more chemistry with chitose than her.
I just love Ichiban so much. I'm more attached to Kiryu because I've been with him longer, but as a character Ichiban is my favourite protagonist of all time. To me he is everything the ideal man should be. Fun loving, compassionate, strong, forgiving, a little bit goofy and flawed but doesn't let it bother him, but all round just unrelentingly confident and dedicated. The definition of a true badass.
As long as yakuza clans exist, his story may never be over. Though, he will probably be a supporting character now (like Majima), at least until something very huge happens again.

Have a weird feeling tomi and yamai are either getting a story dlc or potential spin off. The kaito files were great and tomi and yamais precursor stories are already well detailed for it.
More than likely there weren't any sort of overlap when it came to development of Gaiden and IW, considering how Hanawa was poised up in Gaiden to be a new friend for Kiryu and was confirmed to be Morinaga from Yakuza 5 and then in IW he was just killed off so unceremoniously by a random thug which kinda confirmed that to me. But I don't doubt we'll at least see them again.
After gaidens ending I was expecting shishido and nishitani to make somewhat of a appearance also I’m curious what did it take for kiryu to regain his name because they knew he had the cancer and they still wasn’t letting him go but idk I feel like chitose is involved with kiryu gaining his name back maybe she got some pull with her families name
RGG usually leave theses kind of details aside, as ingredients for the next game. Just like Akame's unknown status in 7 or Masumi Arakawa's dispute with his former patriarch. Perhaps Chitose and the Daidoji will be plot points for the next one.
Gaiden was written after 8. The only references to Gaiden are Hanawa and the life link photo of Kiryu at the docks with him. They seem to ignore everything else or quickly brush over it
Kiryu had served them well and was too weak to help them anymore or anyone at some point when his cancer became chronic. So I guess they let him go in his dying days.
This has got to be the one ending which has made me feel empty at the end. even the very final cutscene is so hard to watch, you dont know where to be happy or feel sorry for Kiryu, holy shit bro, RGG i fucking love you
Absolutely loved the ending except with the lack of an Ichiban and Akane moment. I know that Ichiban had to learn to be the person he is without her being around and everything but I really wish there would have been something more to their whole arc, especially knowing that Ichiban is a very caring person of others to a fault, but he just seemed too detached.
Just beat this game and wow what a ride, cant wait to see what they do with the next one. I could see the whole saeko and ichiban plotline continuing into the next game, kiryu maybe is more of a mentor role like kazama since hes definitely getting up there in age and perhaps since chitose is the chairwoman maybe the fujinomiya group could play a part. Idk alot of routes for Yakuza 9 lol
It's amazing how ichibian came in with all the power and leverage over Eiji, and yet he didn't brag he didn't gloat he didn't threaten. He talked to him like a concerned friend and even got down to his level. He really is an amazing person
So did the Daidoji let Kiryu go hence why he regained his name? I didn't see any agents in his hospital room. Did he just say screw it? This is so confusing. I need answers.
My guess is that he served his purpose, and that because his name is out in the open, there was no reason to hide it anymore. As for being wheelchair bound, that's just hospital procedure, even if you can walk. Though seeing Kiryu at the end, boney and loss of weight, he definitely has a fight on his hands with cancer, cheering him on!
@@mrhatandclogs I mean, he has terminal cancer, six months left to live at the start of the game and who knows how little time he has left at the end. I imagine he's gonna die between games.
At first when kasuga was introduced as the new main character in the last game, i thought the game might not feel the same as when kiryu is the main character, but now that i know kasuga is literally the type of man i want to be, i decided to give it a try and i was not disappointed
Kiryu’s arc in this game was by far my favorite part. I don’t think we need to see him again in the series, though… it would be great if they left it up to headcanon how the rest of his story goes.
it's a really sad scene between saeko and ichiban at the end, it feels like the writers just wrote in something for saeko to get mad so in the next game they can be back to being friends again or something. it feels really anticlimatic and makes ichiban seem like an idiot that didn't grow over the course of the game, and saeko mean and unforgiving
See, I'm kinda leaning in the opposite direction. I think it would have been too cheap to have all of their problems go away just because he said he loves her. Saeko says pretty directly that she values the romantic journey leading up to marriage, and while Ichiban made progress at the end here, it makes more sense that there's more for them to work out between each other, especially when it comes to expressing their feelings.
@@unamusedrohan1666 i agree with the principle, but how it played out raises some questions. why did saeko wait for ichiban to say that, when she avoided him completely? did she expect him to ambush her at her workplace or at her home? doubt it. and after knowing and being attracted to ichiban, she should surely like his personality and his silly antics. But she just runs off when seeing a silly shirt. Like cmon now, arent you able to forgive or expect average behavior of a guy you supposedly are in love with? Throughout the game, Saeko running off is not really presented as a character flaw she needa to work out either. It kinda just comes out of the blue and ruins the pace and feeling of the scene. I wish she felt embarrassed or awkward by it, but stayed her ground and actually talked about her feelings and needs like an adult
Looks like Kiryu's last fight ended up at the Millenium Tower aswell. That building is so iconic in these games....Tachibana and Oda died for of the empty lot this building was built on,Nishiki and Haruka's parents died there,Kashiwagi "died" there, the final fight in Yakuza 4 ended there,Majima lived in the building in Yakuza 3 till 5 and then he fought Saejima in 5s ending,Yuta got stabbed and Someya died there, ending of Y7 also took place in this building. I’m not sure how it is looked at now, but upon launch, this was one of the most divisive endings in the entire Like a Dragon series. Players seemed to either like it or are not big fans of it. As for my opinion, I was initially indifferent to the ending, bordering not liking it, but the more it sat with me and the more I thought about it, the more I grew to appreciate it. For those who care enough to read this, here are my opinions on some of the parts people did not like about the ending. I think a lot of the initial dislike comes from Ichiban seemingly “forgiving” Eiji. It is really easy to hate the guy, especially after the stunts he pulled less than a few chapters back. But what I think most people miss is that Ichiban doesn’t forgive him, he is preventing him from being murdered by the public who have been blinded by moral absolutism. Thematically, Ichiban is finally able to achieve what he couldn’t with Masato (the young master.) Giving him a new start. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, ensuring that he receives the proper punishment for his crimes. Another thing to consider is that Eiji was another one of Ebina’s pawns. A means to an end. Once he got what he wanted out of him, Ebina cast Eiji aside, essentially leaving him for dead. (Another parallel to Masato.) Eiji was so determined to get revenge on the yakuza that screwed over his career, that he did not stop to think about whether he was being used himself. When you really think about it, Ebina is like a younger, crueler, Edgar Ross from the Red Dead games. Does this absolve Eiji of his actions? Obviously not. But I don’t think death is what he deserves either. Kiryu death fake out for the tenth time. Okay, I can see where some are coming from with this one. RGG really loves death fake outs. They even gave Ichiban one in this game. Although if I’m being honest, I saw it coming from a mile away. No one at RGG said that Infinite Wealth would be the last game Kiryu is in. Just the last one where he would be a main protagonist. He is literally the face of the series, he is going to appear in future games to some extent. (Although he mentioned that it is not what the studio is working on currently, Yokoyama pretty much guaranteed Kiwami 3 will happen at some point.) But also, it runs with the theme the game is trying to convey. The question was never, is Kiryu going to die for real this time? The question was, can Kiryu break the cycle he is trapped in before time runs out. The reason the story is intentionally vague about what caused Kiryu’s cancer is because his terminal illness is more representative of his current emotional state. By the point in which Infinite Wealth starts, Kiryu is extremely depressed and has grown tired of life. The cancer only got as bad as it did because Kiryu WANTS to die. But in spite of all of that he has gone through, there is still a glimmer of Kiryu’s fighting spirit left underneath all that depressive cynicism. Over the course of the campaign through interacting with party members, life links, and just hanging around Ichiban, it is that part of Kiryu, the unyielding determination to see things through and beat all the odds, that slowly reawakens. That is the real significance of the reawakening stats in game. After erasing his name, Infinite Wealth is all about Kiryu regaining his name and restoring his old self. Someone that Kiryu really hasn’t been since Yakuza 4 if I’m being honest. The point was never to give Kiryu some epic death like Arthur Morgan, it was for Kiryu to regain his identity and will to live. Ichiban and Saeko’s relationship ending on the note that it did. Yeah, I don’t know what they were going for there. I guess with Kiryu’s side ending on such a dour note, they wanted to end with a little more levity. Although, all it really achieves is putting Ichi and Saeko’s relationship further into question. I don’t think I have seen a fictional romance where the romantic partner in question constantly flip flops between liking and hating the protagonist. Did they make up or does she still hate his guts? Honestly, I think Saeko and Ichiban should remain friends because I wholeheartedly think that she has better chemistry with Nanba. Plus, I have a sneaking suspicion that RGG might have left Ichiban and Saeko’s romance on a indefinite note, because they are testing the waters with Chitose to see whether or not anyone would be interested in seeing Ichiban potentially paired up with other female characters besides Saeko. Why else would Ichiban be the center of focus for the Honolulu City Lights music video. You cannot get more deliberate than that. Not even Saeko’s Spring Breeze video depicts Ichiban like that. But hey, that’s just a theory! Much like the ending of Ichiban’s first game, I have grown to like Infinite Wealth’s ending as time goes on. I suspect that a lot of people who were initially on the fence about it would come around on a second or third play through.
I'm a little disappointed by the ending. Gaiden set so much that 8 didn't deliver. We were robbed of a big kiryu reunion with his children that we didn't get, hell we didn't even see harutos face for some reason. Kiryus character deserved to have a big scene with his family. I'm happy that he finally gets to rest. I wonder if in yakuza 9 well get to find out what happened between him and daidoji considering we didn't get major plot points addressed. Kiryu should've had a scene with haruto he earned it. And the biggest disappointment is not deliver on Kashiwagis promise on having a proper conversation with kiryu whenever he got his name back. I believe they used a lot of resources and had to rush the ending in the end but honestly I'd sacrifice the ei Chan final scene for a proper closure.
It felt odd, I felt like they were going to hint that Daidoji was in Bryce's pocket too, and build up a bigger villain in the end. But then I suddenly see final chapter. bryce was a huge letdown. By the time you even get to him he's not that huge a threat. Even Ebina just rightfully points out it would've gone under eventually, no matter how much people tried. I felt like they did something good with Chitose, essentially doxxing herself to spread the word...but they put almost no emphasis on that, even though in vtubing that's a pretty big deal. They make it look like she did it just cause she wanted to. Tomi's entire plot is solved in the first few hours of the game. He's just sort of there after that. It feels like they cut an entire subplot out from him. Kiryu plot was okay, but like I said I really didn't feel like he was going to be the person fighting Ebina. What they did with it was very good, but it left things like Eiji and well, Kasuga out to dry. It didn't feel like Kasuga had any emotional connection to the hawaii plot by the end, to the point he teleports back to Japan for the credits. In all of this, I don't feel it was bad, I just agree, it was disappointing. I feel like it could've been so much better. Like better than Y5 but it's no Y0/7
Daidoji seems to give Kiryu his name back from how much of a great work he’s done. And this ending shows us that he finally get to reunite with Haruka, but off-screen and that sucks big time as a longtime fan. Even if they show the reunion scene at the beginning of Y9 it wouldn’t feel the same.
I lost the last battle and hadn't saved and wasn't gonna redo it so I'm watching this. I wanted to finish the game I just don't have to heart to do it all over
Is it just me or was the fight choreography really weak in this game? Sometimes it felt like everyone was throwing pillow punches or there just weren't any sound effects Edit: this fight is the exception
34:32 Okay why is nobody talking about this dude. Either I didn't pay enough attention or I'm just stupid. I thought it was Kume but nobody seems to be saying anything. Am I supposed to remember who this is? Any Help? He shows up a couple times throughout the story but again, no discourse about him anywhere.
@@hopeestheim7285 I, ahem, asked the AI which jobs were the best for Kiryu’s crew and it told me then: Kiryu, Dragon Nanba, Homeless Seonhee, Night Queen Saeko, Idol Zhao, Gangster I blindly followed the AI’s advice not even going against the grain 🧑🦯. I have to say that from repetitively and tediously grinding _everybody’s_ jobs to minimum level 30 in the Yokohama dungeon to unlock all their skills, it built up the crew’s levels, hoarded disks to buy special tin cans to allow to create their highest-tier endgame weaponry and protection at Gearworks (and for Kasuga’s gang too). Since I was wealthy, I usually started each single fight with a Komaki Poundmate call to very effectively soften the enemies’ HP and take it from there.
I was kinda puzzled seeing the ending where Kiryu stops hiding his true identity. It goes straight against the Date substory where he repromises the Daidoji that he will cut ties with all of his friends for good, making him kind of an hypocrite. Can someone please explain me this? 🤔
The Bucket List sidequests are optional, it's also why at the end of it they don't even show Haruka's face, because they didn't wanna ruin the reveal with the ending. Suppose you do it though (like most would), it's probably the Daidoji who gave him the out. Will we know why? Maybe next game who knows, but for now, seems like it does imply Kiryu is let go by the Daidoji.
Since his identity was fully revealed at the tojo HQ to a bunch of strangers, and the fact that he's too weak to continue serving as an agent, i think the daidoji decided to let him go Probably as a reward for stopping ebina and bryce's plans
This game is HORRIBLY balanced. You should be around level 45-46 when you get here unless you did an insane amount of grinding to a point of being bored to death. There's just not enough content in the game to level you up as much as you need to be, and it takes so long to level up once you hit level 40.
I read that all jobs at level 30 unlocked all their special magics and skills. So when the Hawaii and Yokohama dungeons were open to both groups, I did just that, grinded erbody to level 30 with only Joongi's 2 jobs left in the endgame and as you said, it got boring to go into the dungeons all the time. And it massively paid off with everybody averaging level _64_ and again only Joongi trailing at 57, he he. Lots of money to afford 6 and 7 stars hardware didn't hurt either. That combo made the final sequences' minions and bosses all very easily manageable! Very little to no buffs, debuffs or healing! 💪 😜
"The Man Who Regained His Name"
I love that final achievement
And the last game was the man who erased his name pretty funny😊
He's basically the inverse of Shishido, Shishido fought like hell to Keep the yakuza Alive and Idolizes the Yakuza Dream while Ebina utterly Despises it.
Spoilers for gaiden
It would’ve been funny if shishido came back as daidoji and beat the shit out of ebina
Ebina also embodies some persona and similarity to Nishiki and Mine. He lost his only family member that mattered to him (like Nishiki and his sister, for Ebina his mother), he also worked hard to get to the top to realise his dream (the coop with Sawashiro, like Mine and Daigo) and also conspired with a blonde haired foreigner (Bryce Fairchild, like Black Monday's Andre Richardaon)
And of course, his ultimate goal is the mirror opposite to that of Shishido, to hunt down any Yakuza no matter what it takes.
I hope it will inspire Eiji to be as kind as Ichiban in the future 🙏
@Roberdrake74
That's why Ichiban is considered by some characters in the series as a rare find.
Plus, it's easier for society to hate on others instead of help, and people sadistically take pleasure in violence against others and give themselves an excuse to be violent against those society is treating as garbage.
the voice actor for kiryu at the end was so good holy shit
Takaya Kuroda is a really good voice actor. Especially in Yakuza 0 and Gaiden

Eiji really did not deserve redemption.
Thank you for being the only person on TH-cam to not mute the song in the background for fear of copyright. The song really makes the whole scene of Ichiban carrying Eiji beautiful.
I thought he looked like a Japanese Jesus carrying his heavy crosspiece among an angry crowd.

2nd reason is ichiban being treated like garbage carrying that other effin garbage human being

Loved the hell out of the game though
In my opinion, Ebina's definitely up there with the best RGG villains. I mean, his plan is evil, rounding up the ex-yakuza with false hopes and sending them to their doom with no chance at redemption. Like, I completely get his motive. In a way, he's doing the Japenese society a favor by getting rid of twisted criminals, but then again, he isn't even giving them a chance at redemption and doing it only for his personal vengeance. Kinda like Kuwana, I completely get why he became what he became and why he is doing all this.
He was essentially the Hitler of the Yakuza.
Evil Ichiban
I see him how sort of the world sees the yakuza, most people would say they just ruin people's lives, and the world would be better off without them. All the talk of glory, tradition and bonds is just a lie they feed themselves, if even a hate so justified as Ebina can forgive the yakuza, maybe Kiryu can forgive himself for his sins.

It's never too late to atone for something you've done, that people should always have the right to make amends and rebuild their life from scratch, without being torn apart by a modern society uninterested in any rehabilitation but just want the next target they can chew out for sport
Ichiban forgave Tomi, Chitose and Yamai, which in turn allowed them all to face up to their sins and atone for what they did, and changed their own lives for the better.
Kazuma did Shooreh Pipi with Munan Chohept Onast and he was cured.

the fact that kiryu got little screen time in the end def was a cliffhanger. like they're def setting up for the next game. there's so many possibilities/outcomes for kiryu's future. we know kiryu is very persistent and always takes matter into his own hands so i wont be surprised if he beats cancer and keeps kicking ass til he's 90 with nothing holding him back. i really wanna see that. but the most realistic outcome for sure is he lives peacefully for the rest of his life or eventually dies from cancer. whatever happens, i hope he gets the outcome he deserves.
I do think they'll probably let Kiryu die from his cancer but if that is the case then we need a scene of him either in a hospital bed with everyone around him and by that I mean the kids from the orphanage and obviously everyone from the this game. Saeko was mean asf to not speak to ichiban for such a long time. There was barely any romance between them either, the chemistry wasn't there. It didn't feel right. He somehow had more chemistry with chitose than her.
She worked as a hostess though, so that kinda explains her actions. Dialogue between her and the boys affirms her relationship with Kasuga.
When Kiryu passed out on top of Ebina it might a passing of will for Kiryu so Ebina can atone for his sins.

This is a yearly release series. I'm sure we'll see them again soon.

Kiryu’s arc in this game was by far my favorite part. I don’t think we need to see him again in the series, though… it would be great if they left it up to headcanon how the rest of his story goes.
I agree (with tears bc I love kiryu) but I think his fighting days are over. All I want for him now is to have a happy ending.
it's a really sad scene between saeko and ichiban at the end, it feels like the writers just wrote in something for saeko to get mad so in the next game they can be back to being friends again or something. it feels really anticlimatic and makes ichiban seem like an idiot that didn't grow over the course of the game, and saeko mean and unforgiving
It'd be complete bs if they did that because the mf wore a shirt
Isn't it pretty obvious gag though
I’m sure Kasuga and Saeko will be together in next game but it’s kinda slap slap kiss relationship.
@@unamusedrohan1666 i agree with the principle, but how it played out raises some questions. why did saeko wait for ichiban to say that, when she avoided him completely? did she expect him to ambush her at her workplace or at her home? doubt it.

34:32 who is this guy?

kiryu about to become komaki II
Perfect final boss
Even if they show the reunion scene at the beginning of Y9 it wouldn’t feel the same.
the ending is in theme with Kiryu and Ichiban's characters and the themes of the series, it's a great ending
I lost the last battle and hadn't saved and wasn't gonna redo it so I'm watching this. I wanted to finish the game I just don't have to heart to do it all over

The Bucket List sidequests are optional, it's also why at the end of it they don't even show Haruka's face, because they didn't wanna ruin the reveal with the ending. Suppose you do it though (like most would), it's probably the Daidoji who gave him the out.
