I think after the disappointing box-office, Warner Bros. wanted a whole new revamp for the character as Superman Returns was essentially the unofficial sequel to Superman II, and the fact Bryan Singer is a big fan of Donner's Superman: The Movie was the main reason for Routh's casting in the first place.

There is something about Brandon Routh's character/personality that he brings to Superman, that I find missing in Henry Cavill's performance. I think of Routh's Superman scenes, such as, the roof top scene with him and Lois, when she tells him he's been gone too long and that she's with someone else,..his reaction by backing away,..said it all,..no matter how invulnerable he is,..he felt that and was hurt,..or when he says good bye to her on the plane at the end,..after being saved,..and knowing he had to go back and might die,..and says to good bye to her,..you def felt that scene. Great scene and great chemistry with Lois/Kate Bosworth. There is no chemistry between Henry Cavill and Amy Adams. Sorry, but so true! It's unfortunate that Brandon Routh didn't get another chance to wear the cape again.
Oh please! Here we go! If you didn’t see any chemistry between Henry Cavill and Amy Adams you don’t know what chemistry is, especially if you think Routh and Bosworth had it, lol!
@@kotobukiya70 Lol there's definitely no chemistry between Cavill/Adams. Neither even feels like they're playing a character because they're both so underwritten. @@kotobukiya70 Not at all. Both are fine actors, no issues with them at all. Amy Adams you can find in an interview with Andrew Garfield here on youtube talking about it. Cavill in discussing Justice League, while he's been nice and courteous all across the board (because he's just a good dude) has repeatedly said that he didn't feel like he was truly getting to play Superman until closer to the end, particularly in Justice League. He doesn't outright complain like Adams did, but he's heavily implying that he wants to go further not just because he loves the character, but because he's been underwhelmed so far.
There were a few parts where I got really emotional watching Superman Returns. It had some of the most intense scenes and emotional scenes. It was one of the only proper Superman movies. The Superman story wasn't meant to be one long series of action sequences with space ships and annoying villains, like in Man of Steel. Man of Steel dropped the ball big time, by focusing on way too much action and not enough enjoyment and happiness.
Brandon Routh is such an awesome human being! I've never known anyone who appreciated more the chance to play the iconic character of Superman. He was also fantastic as Ray on Legends of Tomorrow. He really deserves another starring role on a great show. I hope they find something for him.
I would love to see a series or mini-series following Brandon's version of Superman. I think there's more to be had from his performances. I can assure you I loved him in that film and hadn't realised how sour things went.
I really enjoyed Superman returns. I thought it was an homage to the Christopher Reeve Superman 1. I especially liked Brandon Routh and was looking forward to seeing him in future Superman movies. I'm glad he got the chance to play that role again.
I’m still not over it to be honest. Watched it again last week and he was the on.y one that made me cry. Don’t care to admit it. That scene in the kitchen “but did you love him……NO” , then he flies off with tears in his eyes. That killed me man. He set it all up perfect to play Man Of Steel right after. All the background was done. All the character building done. Was just ready to then go all out action movies. I love Cavill but after Reeve, Brandon will always be Superman in my eyes. He just done it so well and I’m glad just for his own mental well being that he got to have a proper send off. Decades overdue in my opinion.
I agree. I got a tear in my eye several times. Especially when he "dies" and when he hits the ground, the ground shakes like a shockwave. The movie was lower and more methodically made than the hacked together hack job, Man of Steel. That movie, Superman Returns has so many parts that are way under rated.
it's very interesting to watch this clip after watching Spiderman No Way Home, and seeing that same the love/validation that went (deservedly) to Andrew Garfield. It shines a light on actors doing their best in a popular role, but not necessarily given the best material with which to work. With SR it was being beholden to the character established in the Richard Donner films, with ASM it was being beholden to studio wishes about setting up a cinematic universe.
Brandon really matured into the role. He felt like a better fit for the character now than he did in 2006 (not that he wasn't great in Superman Returns). I just can't say enough good things about his return in Crisis on Infinite Earths. It was like Superman jumped right off the page. The characterization was Superman to a T. The costume is hands down the best live action Superman costume of all time. And it was all complimented by Brandon playing the part. I hope we can get more 🤞
It's still mind blowing that superman returns didn't get the respect It deserved. I still feel like it's one of the best films ever made, in terms of emotion. He did a fantastic job as Superman, I felt like I was watching Christopher Reeve.
If they don't find a way to bring Brandon Routh back as Superman given how many other past iterations of DC characters back on the big and small screens it'd be a massive oversight. His Clark/Superman was so good that he shone through the material that he was given and made Superman Returns somewhat watchable. He needs another chance to really play this character on it's own merits instead of just being a part of someone else's story.
Brandon Routh is one of my favorite versions of Superman. Second only to Tom welling it was such an incredible experience to have him back as Superman, and I hope to somehow see him again in the role.
Two years later for the party, but if he ever sees this: Superman Returns was a very fun movie to watch for me even at that time, and I still think it that Brandon is an underrated Superman in his own merit. And I also enjoyed watching Legends of Tomorrow, his scenes always made me smile. He seems the kind of person that always brings light and enjoyment around him
Brandon Routh may have been asked to do an impression of Reeve but seeing him as Superman in the CW shows was a stark reminder of how perfect he really was as Superman. He looked, felt, sounded and moved like Superman would. That’s not an easy thing to do. I’m so happy he got to be Superman again. It kinda added layers to his and Reeve’s Superman since that’s the one he was portraying anyway.
Routh as Clark really fits with the style of Christopher Reeve which is probably why he was cast for the role since Bryan Singer filmed Superman Returns as a sequel to Superman II.
Superman Returns was my first Superman movie. It is my first time knowing and seeing Superman. Superman became one of my favorite superheroes because of it. While Brandon isn’t my favorite Superman, he’s my 2nd favorite and my first Superman My favorite is Tyler who is in Supergirl and Superman & Lois.
I loved him in Superman returns n so wish he will come back n work with sumone else it was nice seeing the idea he had a son but the movie didnt go wrong by him
I am glad he got the chance to reprise the role. For anyone who really watched the movie Superman Returns, the problem of it was never him. The problem of it was things out of his control. His portrayal in the crossover was spot on.
I love Brandon!! He's been through a lot but never lost his optimism and kindness. After Reeve, Brandon genuinely made his way into my heart. As Clark, he embodies his adorkable and innocent side so masterfully. It's in those subtle micro expressions and mannerisms. And as Superman, he is like an anchor, a center of gravity that makes you feel safe. I believe Brandon makes such a great job because he's genuinely a good guy with a big heart, and he's not afraid to show his vulnerability and sensibility. I appreciate Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin, but Brandon is the pure Essence of a modern Superman/Clark to me 💗 His comeback in "Crisis of Infinite Earths" was like coming full circle, a more mature and wise side of him!! I hope with all my heart he reprises his role 🧚🧚 Just as Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan got their long overdue recognition, I believe Brandon's has a lot more to give and a lot of recognition to receive!! And I will be there to celebrate it!!
I Will love to see an HBO Max series or mini series starring routh with this kind off kingdom come version of Superman. I remember His little appareance in the arrowverse special and he nailed it!!
Routh is a fantastic actor and I find him to have fit the role of super man perfectly and this is coming from someone who is completely in love with Tom Wellings smallville and have watched smallville since I was 5 (now 23) routh gave something to the character of superman I’ve just never seen anyone else accomplish. Not to mention I think he physically fits the role well
Brandon Routh's Superman was stoic and Thoughtful. Henry Cavill's Superman is reactive, instantaneous and very predictable by opponents. Cavill's Superman is much like the DC animations of Superman. Strong and not to second tier intelligent. Batman in the animations is always outsmarting Superman. Routh's Superman, has the stored knowledge of many Galaxies to utilize when needed. This is my understanding of what Brandon Routh's acting conveys to me.
I've been a fan of Superman since 1982 as a 5 year old and this man did a great job playing Superman it felt like the Christopher Reeve character I grew up watching. Kevin Spacey also was a good lex luthor.
Love Brandon Routh, a great actor and great Superman and awesome human being. Would love to see Tom Welling and him on set together comparing their experience.
I think there is a lot of potential for Brandon's superman shorts in the multiverse. Something like Disney's "Star Wars" shorts with expensive but short-lived special effects, and the rest can be filled with thoughtful character interactions.
Brandon was a great Superman and an amazing Christopher Reeve-esque Clark Kent. Really glad he got to play him again during the Crisis crossover, hope he gets to do it again someday.
I believe Brandon was the only actor to play Superman after Reeves to have played both Superman and Clark Kent characters extremely well. He did it perfectly and that’s not easy to do.
Brandon Routh was an AWESOME Superman! It's so sad that Superman Returns didn't get a sequel, Brandon had a warmth to him that really replicated Christopher Reeve but was also unique in its own way. And Superman Returns wasn't reliant on destruction porn like Man of Steel was.
Routh was always great as Superman. In many ways, he was the most accurate version. I just wish he had better writing for his interpretations of the character.
If Tobey and Andrew can reprise their role as Spider-Man, so is you Brandon! And Henry as well if it's possible, and all actors who playing the character 🔥🔥💪🙌👍

Both actors have since complained about their roles even. Bosworth was also a terrible Lois and Routh didn't have chemistry with her, but it's absurd to say that Cavill/Adams had anything close to resembling chemistry.
@@JordanMgordan Lol!!!! Oh it’s there alright! You just for whatever reason have your little issues with Cavill and Adams. I felt the same way about Christian Bale and Heath Ledger when people were blowing them up like they were king shit. They were both overrated as hell! And no Cavill NEVER complained about playing Superman. That was you! I don’t know about Amy Adams, but I know for a fact that Cavill never complained about playing Superman.
@@Ritalie the scene just prior as he pushes the meteor. The close up shot of the eyes. Just brilliant man.
it's very interesting to watch this clip after watching Spiderman No Way Home, and seeing that same the love/validation that went (deservedly) to Andrew Garfield. It shines a light on actors doing their best in a popular role, but not necessarily given the best material with which to work. With SR it was being beholden to the character established in the Richard Donner films, with ASM it was being beholden to studio wishes about setting up a cinematic universe.
Brandon Routh was a great superman, no doubt. Hopefully we'll see more of him again in that role. You never know
Get this man and limited HBO series. A one off, let him shine!
I hope we can get more 🤞
The misses and I went through all the Superman actors tonight and we both agreed Brandon Routh was the best fit...especially the old superman version
I hope he can be successful not only playing Superman.. I hope for him the best for his acting career...
It was great to see him play Superman again!
It's still mind blowing that superman returns didn't get the respect It deserved. I still feel like it's one of the best films ever made, in terms of emotion. He did a fantastic job as Superman, I felt like I was watching Christopher Reeve.
Brandon seems to have chilled out since he lost his vegan powers.
Gelato isn't vegan?
Looks like time in Vegan prison did him good after being arrested by vegan Punisher.
Come on. Let’s #BringBackBrandon
Brandon was a good superman, I’m glad he got another chance to play him.
He seems the kind of person that always brings light and enjoyment around him
My favourite superman.
BRANDON ROUTH IS SUPERMAN
Brandon routhes Superman was definitely the most complex and nuanced take on the character, in my opinion
Humble and gracious. We need BRANDON ROUTH's Superman rendition, now more than ever. God help us.
I still remember the day I went to see superman returns in the theater with my mom ❤
I loved Superman Returns. I say that as a huge Superman fan. I can see its flaws, and there are a bunch, but I loved Brandon Routh as Superman.
Superman Returns is on my shelf. It is super part 5. A perfect sequels to reeves work. Seamless. I’d always wanted another one.
While Brandon isn’t my favorite Superman, he’s my 2nd favorite and my first Superman
My favorite is Tyler who is in Supergirl and Superman & Lois.
Brandon merece su propia serie con su Superman, así como Tyler.
You will always be one of the people who r lucky enough to make people believe a man could fly ! Thank you .
I loved him in Superman returns n so wish he will come back n work with sumone else it was nice seeing the idea he had a son but the movie didnt go wrong by him
I literally only watched those to see him and Tom return. I would have loved to have seem him as Superman in another movie.
I am glad he got the chance to reprise the role. For anyone who really watched the movie Superman Returns, the problem of it was never him. The problem of it was things out of his control. His portrayal in the crossover was spot on.
I love his version of Superman. Thank you for the amazing work.
I wish he could go back and do a Superman film
Routh wouldn't hesitate to shave his mustache to play Superman.
Brandon Routh - THE BESTEST SUPERMAN bar none.
I could tell that Brandon actually brought back out his walking posture that he had practiced on Superman returns.
Him and Val Kilmer should've done cameos in The Flash too.
Brandon was awesome to see you back!
WB .... Please bring him back ... sequel to Superman Returns
Not to mention I think he physically fits the role well
I was beaten once in school for sticking up for routh as superman and ya know what I don’t regret it ahha. Amazing actor and he deserved better
meeting brandon was one of the best things i ever did
I loved superman returns. I really wanted a #2. Mr. Routh was one of the best to play him.
He played a GREAT Superman.
The movie was what it was, but the actor was spot on Superman, period.
One of the many powerful moments of this episode 🙏❤️
He actually sounds like Christopher Reeve, crazy.
Brandon Routh is my favourite Superman of all time ♥️
He became my favorite superman in those few scenes. really found his footing
Get this man a series.
I don’t care what people say Superman Returns is a wonderful film.
My favorite Superman!
He looked so much like Chris Reeves. That was one cool aspect.
I am still hoping to see Brandon returns as the kindom come version of Superman 🤞
Love Brandon Routh, a great actor and great Superman and awesome human being. Would love to see Tom Welling and him on set together comparing their experience.
I really liked his version of Superman. I am very happy to see him wearing the red cape, again.
I think there is a lot of potential for Brandon's superman shorts in the multiverse. Something like Disney's "Star Wars" shorts with expensive but short-lived special effects, and the rest can be filled with thoughtful character interactions.
Watching Brandon on crisis as kingdom come superman left alot of fans wanting more.
It was awesome to see him be superman again.
I want him to play Superman again.
My grandparents love this guy. They know this Iowan as THE SUPERMAN. Didnt know he got so much flack. He is an amazing actor!
Best Superman so far!
If Tobey and Andrew can reprise their role as Spider-Man, so is you Brandon! And Henry as well if it's possible, and all actors who playing the character 🔥🔥💪🙌👍
Brandon deserved so much better. 😢😢😢 We all love you
Routh is a Doctor!!!!!!!! Thank you very much War Lord 😇😊
Such a nice guy, I am so pleased to have met him at a UK convention back in 2018, wearing my 49ers t-shirt, only to find out that he is a fan too, I was a bit too starstruck to say much about it to him
