  • We travel to one of the very best outdoor destinations in our state to explore the Ozark Scenic Riverways. This is a congressionally protected area maintained by the National Park Service however it is not one of the 63 National Parks. Does it meet the standard for full status and should it be named America's 64th National Park?
In this first video we start at Welch Spring and the abandoned Hospital, From there we pass Akers Ferry on our way to the Devil's Well an 80 foot deep collapsed cavern. We then hike to the beautiful round Spring. We set up camp at the Alley Spring Campground and explore the iconic mill and spring. From there we head south to look for Elk at the Peck Ranch. We finish our day off with ice cream and a bite to eat at a local favorite, Dairy Shack!

I remember before it became a National Park in 1964. At first I didn’t like it because of all the rules. With the abandonment of the farms, the water became more clean visibly. The only thing that has changed is the amount of canoes, but all need to experience the length of these rivers! The National Park Service does an EXCELLENT JOB taking care of it!

Don't forget the Eleven Point River, it is also part of the Scenic Riverways. This is some of the most beautiful country you will ever see.

The rivers in this area are very special namely the Jack's fork and the Current these are very beautiful waterways and deserve to be protected for all

I have swam in and fished for small mouth bass in the current a number of years ago. Cold and beautiful.

You can get to Welch Spring from an unmarked road off of Z hiway a little past where you parked for the foot trail you were on. The ferry has been closed for a while due to a flood.

I've thought about traveling around and making videos but the only problem is I have a face that is better suited for radio or so I have been told.

Here is the NPS map on their site. You can switch to Brochure Map in the top left corner and it is useful as well.
