No CGI n foreign powers calling the shots
I saw this film in 1984, with my girlfriend. I was so in love with her. We were young kids, going to a movie. The girlfriend went abroad, I married the mother of my children. The poster of this movie hanged on my wall for manny, manny years. But hearing and seeing this brings me back to that magic summer of 1984. How time flies……
RIP Lou, what a historic win. He was still working, what a legend. 😔
Lou Gosset Jr brought me back here again. RIP Legend.
Here to! 5/2024
This was our senior class song back in 1982. What a special time. No smart phones, no internet, no texting, you actually had to communicate in person.
So telephones didn't exist? I was alive in the 80's and clearly remember NOT communicating in person over the phone, and the postal service has been around for hundreds of years... Were you unable to read in the 80's?
@@TNR-lover You missed my point entirely. Of course telephones existed. But thanks for pointing it out, I'm sure others thought telephones didn't exist in the 80s.
It says no smart phones should learn to observe before speaking ya nerv
Exactly Rob.
100%. Communication breakdown aka text messaging/distancing which leads to conflicts instead of a common compromise - (compromise) what makes a healthy society function properly. Human touch, talk, understanding, etc.
Big Tech is evil.
Back in the day when they actually made good movies! Who else misses these days?
missing badly...
everyone in our age bracket
😢😢😢😢😢😢
It is wonderful from start to end.
Count me in
Richard Gere and Debra Winger were just perfect for their roles in this movie. So was everyone else! It brought back so many memories!
Richard Gere & Debra Winger...but Louis Gossett Jr. won !!
I read they didn’t get along on set.
So maybe I’ve watched this three times in a row and I’m crying like a baby………An officer and a gentleman is my favorite movie of all time. I was in middle school when it was released.
You must be in your late 40’s😂 me too I loved this movie and I was a kid 👦 and the scene where he ran up and got his girl at the end will forever live rent free in mind brain
A brilliant movie , an exceptional song 👌🥇.
☺️
🎵❤
On my watch list
RIP Louis Gossett Jr, thank you for the memories
once in your life you have to have someone you love lift you up like this, it is a memory to treasure forever
The final scene in this film is one of the most emotionally satisfying endings in movie history
So say all of you.
Love never fails !
I am.
The waiting is over.
Truth
I was studying at the University of Kentucky at that time. Great memories! Loved the movie! Great actors! If only we could rewind time!
Congratulations !! I'm sure Kentucky blessed you with the opportunity to have a great future!!
@@davidpouncy8471 thanks! do i know u from u of k? r u from ky? i knew so many people there.. don't remember all the names :)
I dedicate this song to my 7th grade English teacher, Ms. Carere, who taught me how to read between the lines in everything in 7th grade..2004, at her after school "writing clinic", she used this song as an example and I always wondered what it sounded like. She was one of my favourite teachers and she taught me how to decode and decipher messages and meaning in life, lyrics, words and in other subtle ways of communicating! I wish I could find her and tell her how her writing clinic truly changed my perspective at 12 years old.
Can you imagine it.. (byetheway I'm korean ) 50 years old instead of 7th grade? God bless you
How so. How did it change your perspective
That is one awesome teacher.
She sounds like a wonderful teacher❤ I hope you can find her, so you can tell the impact she had on your life..❤ Good luck . I hope you find your English teacher❤❤❤❤
@@junghanyeon3369 God bless you! This song connects all ages.
As a movie buff, I have heard of this movie all through the years and yet I have never seen this one. Richard Gere and Debra Winger, Louis Gossett Jr....where have I been? MUST SEE!
Great theme song by the man, Mr. Joe Cocker! What a voice!
Great song. Louis Gossett Jr. certainly earned his Oscar!!!
Amen Bro and one of my Favorite Movies Of ALL Time.
I just watched it today. Man, he nailed it 👌
Curse of Hollywood after oscar he did not become an A list star. In fact only low standard movies he did
@@shushinho7870 I think the curse definately exists. With the exception of Angelina Jolie , I can't think of any actor or actress who's gone on to an even bigger and better things after winning an Oscar. For that matter, the late great Deborah Kerr, Humphrey Bogart , Glenn Close and Richard Gere can thank their lucky stars they didn't win one , they didn't have to.
It was the role of his career, and he was perfect in it
Joe may be the most underrated singer of his time, which is a crime
A beautiful composition with heart driven vocals.....RIP Joe.......miss you...
Excellent! 😄👍❤
Very great movie with the chemistry between Richard Gere and Debra Winger !! Also very magnificent duet song from Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes👍👍 And not forgotten A Real Happy Ending❤️❤️❤️👍
It is amazing how you watch a movie as a kid...when you become an adult it is totally different.
Yeah exactly 😊💖

This was my ex best friends dad's favorite movie. We always had to watch it and hated it. Now I love it lol. Go figure

What about listen to this great music and reply to me?
I don't remember how many times i've seen this movie.First time was in the beginning of the 80's. It has been repeated many, many times on Television. Yesterdayas well, and i cannot but watch it still.. The song is so great as well!
October 29, 1982, on through 1983 and 1984, this song was played on the radio incessantly. Great memories attached to it. Much more than just than any musical interlude, this is so gorgeous.
Lou Gossett Jr. was born for this role. The chemistry between him and Gere was off the charts! Gosset was as so tough, yet he had an underlying compassion.
I SAW THIS MOVIE TODAY, I'VE SEEN IT A THOUSAND TIMES AND I NEVER GET TIRED... THIS IS FOR YOU MY LOVE ❤
@Andrew Necols Fernando 😁💕
one of the best songs and one of the best movies i have seen
A great movie about trying to create a good life, personal growth, and caring about something greater than yourself.
Legendary movies are not easy to accept, looking at the focus on documentary America and service, I would say very much like nothing else.Thank you,Nick
Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes both have amazing voices and this song goes so well with the theme of the film here.
Joe Cocker hardly has an “amazing”
Voice.
That is your personal opinion, but it does not agree with mine nor many others. To each their own and I'm sure there are other places you can go to listen to your type of music.@@paleo704
When you watch this movie you feel you are right there..
that you are also in it.
The direction is so powerful
One of the best films ever.
This is a great song that is made even better by a great movie. After all that happens during the movie, when it plays at the end... hard not to wipe the tears away
Never get tired of this movie great actors, actress's and unforgettable chemistry fan of all of them great careers in acting.❤😊
Oh wow wow wow ... Look at Richard Gere at then, so young, fit and handsome ... It's been 38 years ago this film was shown.
Richard Gere is gorgeous! My former boyfriend looks like that!
Miss him
I'm only 37 but this movie blow me away when i watch it... Amazing and absolutely fantastic movie with young Richard geere
My mother (1926-1987) liked this song when it played on the radio.
Happy birthday to Richard Gere 8 31. Thank you for one of the best film endings ❤ of all time.
The drill sergeant in this movie looks like the one from my basic camp. I initially thought he was the worst guy I had ever met, but it didn’t take long to realize he was the best soldier and a great military training instructor. My summer days at Fort Knox weren’t easy, but they were the best time of my life.
Thank you, Drill Sergeant Lawrence, and my battle buddies!
What a wonderful song and movie. One of my favorite. Thank you.!!!
Amen.
Cecilia how do you feel when listening to this song?
This gem went to #1 in the USA on November 6th, 1982 and stayed there for three weeks. Jennifer Warnes would have another #1 hit Duet from a Film 5 years later in November 1987 with "I've Had The Time Of My Life" w/Bill Medley from "Dirty Dancing". Both songs won countless awards.
Proves what great actors they both are ... since they didn’t get along on set, but made us feel they were really in love!😽
How do you know that??
Tried to watch An Officer and a Gentleman
I had to stop the film cause it was so bad it made me cringe.
@@0rhythm_divine0 Debra has repeatedly said that Gere was "distant" or "vacant" personally. And Gere to his credit(I've seen interviews with him in the early 80"s) has said he doesn't recognize the person he was back then. He was definitely 'out there' in the early 80's.
@@FriendlyCroock Then the gist of it is lost on you unfortunately.
This song is soo bang on with the film or in tune with the theme of this film. For example: with Zack his love for the navy and the displine it gives him and later on his love for Paula lift him to become a better person. For Paula the true love she has for Zack lifts her up by ensuring she doesn't use the shady tactics ("trapping") her friend does with Sid and later on love lifts her from her normal everyday economic situation and makes her dreams of traveling come true with Zack's naval adventure. A match made in heaven this Song and movie. There is something about 80s movies and their soundtracks that were soo good and iconic.
I agree! 💯👍❤❤❤
The movie and the soundtrack! Another good one is Urban Cowboy with Sissy & Bud's love story. And the song " Looking for love in all the wrong places " fits it perfectly!
80s movies were the best! I grew up in the 80s and early 90s.
I saw this movie when I was 23 yrs old with a boyfriend who was in the Air Force. He was so handsome and I was so young. I miss those days!
Debra Heselton Lucky you, all the guys I knew when I was in the army wasn’t. Except for my CO. Too bad there was still DADT.
@Rishi I'm 60 now and married to someone else. I haven't seen my Air Force bf in many many yrs. But have a lot of good memories of us together!
dont we all.
my sister told me i could have any girl i wanted,,,
Get the one who loves ya and keep her.
Definitely now!!
Great acting in this film Richard!!✝️
Just watched this movie last night. One of my instant favourites!
Shot Bro whats this name of movie plis
@@victortorres3798 it’s in the title lol, An Officer and a Gentleman
Wonderful heart warning film . Roughneck young man makes good and girl who refuses to trick him or run after him desperately find happiness together !!
Love this film !!
Clearly ‘ heart warming ‘ not ‘ heart warning ‘ !!
Bloody typos !!!
My favorite movie ...seen more than 40 times
I saw Officer and a Gentleman for the first time last night. Good movie.
Got married to this song in 1983. Still together & still very much in love. Been a long road alright, but we made it!
❤Born in 1983. Happy anniversary
Me and my wife got married September 19th 1983 and are still together to very end
One of my favourite movies ever, the entire cast was brilliant 👍🍺
Great classic movie and song is beautiful. Yearn for good old days
Beautiful song for a wonderful movie...and it's to good to hear this song and watch the movie one more time.
A beautiful song, a great singer and great movie !
From a time when Hollywood had the guts to make outright romance movies.
A perfect film with a perfect theme song, sung perfectly.
I remember that a lot of guys liked this film as well because of the strong military storyline.
Agree. Romance movies are gone. They don't want love in this society anymore. Shame.
@@nancygatto4963 The new Jennifer Lopez movie is surprisingly decently good. Many others are just shit. I’d appreciate if anyone can recommend me some good romance movies.
Amen to that
What romance? 😆🤣
Richard Gere turned out to be a hero in many ways. Long life to you sir.
Both are classics now! Nuff said!😎
The scenes between Paula and her Mother are super loaded emotionally. Her Mother remembering her lost love and begging her Daughter to not make the same mistake. Paula Seeing Zack for the first time and the sparks were flying. LOL.
Agreed , the actress who played the mother was a powerhouse actress, she was also in two of the greatest TV shows of all time. Twin peaks and Seinfeld.
This movie makes me feel so nostalgic and longing for those times... longing for real feelings, real taste of life and real love. Nowadays, life seems to be a blured fake.
What is film name ? please
This song and the singers lift me up. Always!
R.I.P. Louis Gossett, Jr. & Lisa Blount
Magnificent movie and beautiful song. Blessings.
Great feel good movie, with sad and really uplifting moments.
Never get tired of listening to this song….
Been to the pre premiere of this movie. Still gives me the chills. I said it once but will say it again. This one made Top Gun possible. Even in 2024
Mythical movie, thank God they didn't spoil it by doing a second part, like other mythical movies from the 80s and 90s
Amen to that. No sequels, no remakes. Just leave it be.
They said cause Gere & Winger hated each other.
@@KoKo-eq5tr Yeah that's true, also John Travolta was offered this role originally but he turned down
Oh, just you wait. They might be trying to do that. lol, I hope, not!
That Song was my choise too marry my Soulmate who died in the Year 2000
In 1988 I joined the Navy because of this movie, i had no where else to go.
No where else to go…. Nice😎
Same here but in 1994.
Still a great film and cast 41 years later!
Que no se enamora con esta película no sabe ven lo bella que es
One of best songs! Such a good vibes! To be taken and taken to a paradise world!
Louis Gossett was the real star of this film.
David Keith gave superb support.
And Debra Winger gave a fine display of hope and vulnerability.
Richard Gere became a star after this, though he was also very good in American Gigolo opposite Lauren Hutton in 1980.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Always have. And the theme song melts my heart. Every. Single. Time.
My Favourite Oscar/Academy Award Winning Song Of 1982
Excellent song and movie❤
What a great old classic film! One of my favs with Pretty woman! You can’t beat a man I. Uniform 🥰 and I’d say what a handsome young man he was that his looks never faded as he got older. This is one of those films you watch and wish one day you get that happy ending !
Great sound track too. And that song always gives me goose bumps😉😊
When I see this movie I was 11 or 12 years old and I never forget the ending
Andrew Necols An Officer and a Gentleman
Yessss!! Love this movie also
Never set a limit on how high a man can go, as few are those who know... where he truly belongs.
Love only wins when the two are willing to live this story.
That's so true
Arlete how are you doing is my pleasure meeting you here.
So true
Omg. Richard Gere was beautiful. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Was a chocolate boy looks
Great movie
Another brilliant film
It is one of the most beautiful music that I love and it makes my heart happy, generating a very noble feeling, I congratulate this great singer because it is the maximum for me.

Song title and movie 🎬 made a great combination, great work from the cast and crew. I listen this song 🎵 everyday.
I was engaged years ago to an air force guy.He made me very happy and I loved him .
aww
WHAT A MOVIE, I loved everything about it, the cast, the romantic story and of course this beautiful sweet song, this movie and Against all Odds(Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods) are the best 80's romantic movies I ever seen and you will never find nothing even closer, back then a good movie always would come along with a good song and these 2 definitely met all the requirements and more.❤🎥 Love 80's
Yes two great movies from Taylor Hackford! I never knew Against All Odd was directed by him. Love his movies.
That's right Terrence both directed by Taylor Hackford these 2 are the best👏❤
Simply the greatest ending of any movie in cinematography history.
