So maybe I’ve watched this three times in a row and I’m crying like a baby………An officer and a gentleman is my favorite movie of all time. I was in middle school when it was released.
You must be in your late 40’s😂 me too I loved this movie and I was a kid 👦 and the scene where he ran up and got his girl at the end will forever live rent free in mind brain
So telephones didn't exist? I was alive in the 80's and clearly remember NOT communicating in person over the phone, and the postal service has been around for hundreds of years... Were you unable to read in the 80's?
@@TNR-lover You missed my point entirely. Of course telephones existed. But thanks for pointing it out, I'm sure others thought telephones didn't exist in the 80s.
100%. Communication breakdown aka text messaging/distancing which leads to conflicts instead of a common compromise - (compromise) what makes a healthy society function properly. Human touch, talk, understanding, etc. Big Tech is evil.
I dedicate this song to my 7th grade English teacher, Ms. Carere, who taught me how to read between the lines in everything in 7th grade..2004, at her after school "writing clinic", she used this song as an example and I always wondered what it sounded like. She was one of my favourite teachers and she taught me how to decode and decipher messages and meaning in life, lyrics, words and in other subtle ways of communicating! I wish I could find her and tell her how her writing clinic truly changed my perspective at 12 years old.
She sounds like a wonderful teacher❤ I hope you can find her, so you can tell the impact she had on your life..❤ Good luck . I hope you find your English teacher❤❤❤❤
Lou Gossett Jr. was born for this role. The chemistry between him and Gere was off the charts! Gosset was as so tough, yet he had an underlying compassion.

Very great movie with the chemistry between Richard Gere and Debra Winger !! Also very magnificent duet song from Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes👍👍 And not forgotten A Real Happy Ending❤️❤️❤️👍
This gem went to #1 in the USA on November 6th, 1982 and stayed there for three weeks. Jennifer Warnes would have another #1 hit Duet from a Film 5 years later in November 1987 with "I've Had The Time Of My Life" w/Bill Medley from "Dirty Dancing". Both songs won countless awards.
This is a great song that is made even better by a great movie. After all that happens during the movie, when it plays at the end... hard not to wipe the tears away
This song is soo bang on with the film or in tune with the theme of this film. For example: with Zack his love for the navy and the displine it gives him and later on his love for Paula lift him to become a better person. For Paula the true love she has for Zack lifts her up by ensuring she doesn't use the shady tactics ("trapping") her friend does with Sid and later on love lifts her from her normal everyday economic situation and makes her dreams of traveling come true with Zack's naval adventure. A match made in heaven this Song and movie. There is something about 80s movies and their soundtracks that were soo good and iconic.
I agree! 💯👍❤❤❤ The movie and the soundtrack! Another good one is Urban Cowboy with Sissy & Bud's love story. And the song " Looking for love in all the wrong places " fits it perfectly! 80s movies were the best! I grew up in the 80s and early 90s.
I don't remember how many times i've seen this movie.First time was in the beginning of the 80's. It has been repeated many, many times on Television. Yesterdayas well, and i cannot but watch it still.. The song is so great as well!
October 29, 1982, on through 1983 and 1984, this song was played on the radio incessantly. Great memories attached to it. Much more than just than any musical interlude, this is so gorgeous.

Louis Gossett was the real star of this film. David Keith gave superb support. And Debra Winger gave a fine display of hope and vulnerability. Richard Gere became a star after this, though he was also very good in American Gigolo opposite Lauren Hutton in 1980.
The scenes between Paula and her Mother are super loaded emotionally. Her Mother remembering her lost love and begging her Daughter to not make the same mistake. Paula Seeing Zack for the first time and the sparks were flying. LOL.
