My brother didn’t come home last night, so I’d better go looking for him. But not until it gets completely dark out. That’s the best time to go searching for someone in the woods, after all.
Also 32:20 “Yes I think I saw your brother.” “Thank you, helpful retail clerk. No follow up questions.” “Would you like to at least know when he was here? The date? The time?” “No, that doesn’t seem like important information.”
Not gonna lie that scream sounded more like when a mountain lion tries to sound like a person, or when a coyote howls, maybe even when foxes make their weird noises.
I also thought it sounded kinda like a howl. I have a Shiba and his screamy howls can sound pretty similar (pretty terrifying sound to wake up to whenever he decides to yell in the middle of the night tho lol)
Didn’t used to be the case though! They used to make people wait 48-72 hours before reporting a missing person. Definitely lost a lot of people before they learned their lesson.
So I agree that the game was fun and played well, nothing against that, but I feel like it really wasted the "mimic" concept, because we never saw it actually mimic anyone. Saying there was a mimic created great tension as you interviewed the NPCs so I loved that, but at the end I was expecting to see someone turn out to be the mimic and transform into a monster. Without that, it's just a monster that jumps out of the bushes and eats people. The closest we got was an unsettling attempt at a scream (As a creepy sound effect: A+. As anything close to a human voice: F-), and then the monster appears in its full form. So that was just a bummer, and I wanted to vent. It was still great to watch, up until the lack of payoff.
I feel much the same. One of the main things that makes something called a "mimic" so terrifying is that it can technically hide in plain sight. Having an added section of finding another attack scene, or the evidence in general that it's already disguised and hiding out in the area - and then being forced to backtrack and find the right "person" would make it more interesting.
There is lore behind the Mimic, it’s from Vitas Carnis (an analog horror series, def recommend checking it out!). The mimic is a creature whose diet is mainly human flesh and will actively hunt for humans to eat. The reason why this creature is called “mimic” is because the more humans it eats, the more human-like features it will develop to blend in to make its hunts easier. Hopefully this helps clear up any confusion! : )
@@Akaedooii Yes, that does indeed provide better context. Thank you for providing it. Do you know if the game is set within the universe of the Vitas Carnis ARG, or is it just making a reference for fans to recognize?
I enjoyed that first one. It could be made into a full game with more time/people involved. I know how hard it is to get one single game done solo, and this dev already had some extra help... but, a team developing this story would be a really fun experience, imo. I'd like to see more NPC's that you need to question and figure out if they are actually mimics or not as well. It could easily spin off where they end the mimic encounter with some sort of clues found at the mimic's "nest" after killing the skinless one. It would add more suspense and terror if anyone you met could be a mimic that's lying to you. That'd give you dialogue trees that could be altered depending on clues you found along the way. The second one had some issues that I wasn't fond of... largely the car's lack of sightlines through the side windows and the limited view through the windshield like you are a toddler learning to drive.
A tent outside the camper van is usually because of the temperature. When it's hot at night, poorly ventilated camper vans can get stuffy. It's easier to sleep in a light tent while still having shelter.
Also everyone acted so casual like it was a bear attack. I'd hope the officer would tell people to shelter in place and give the homeless person a ride lol
I watched a story on snapchat the other day about a hiker who said he’d be back at a certain time but because of his dog he took a short cut and ended up getting trapped in some boulders and when he didnt show up his wife didn’t contact anyone for like 48 hours despite him telling her to it straight away. I think he was missing for 15 days before he was found, located after 12 by hikers but it was a 3 day hike to his location. So always call authorities straight away when a hiker doesn’t return when expected.
I kinda wanted her to find the person screaming, and it was someone in a police uniform… or use more environmental story telling like blood leading underneath the farmer’s shed.
My immediate thoughts: “Nothing was stolen” HOW DO YOU KNOW, MR OFFICER?? ARE YOU THE CULPRIT?? Then the sign “never blinks” OFFICER DOESNT BLINK Gas station guy also didn’t blink tho.
When you examine the victim's car, your character mentions how it would have been safer to stay inside. But what if after your car breaks down, a helpful park ranger pulls up and offers to call a mechanic or even give you a lift to a service station? So while you light a cigarette, thinking that your luck hasn't been all bad tonight, you recall this isn't a National Park. But then why is there a park ranger here, in the middle of the night? By the time you realize this, its too late.
*Gab:* Hi Beeb, do I have to kick you out before I begin? *BB:* _[the whiniest meow ever recorded]_ x3 That was as adorable as it was amusing, thank you for sharing that moment with us Gabu-san... :p
Hi Gab!!! I think you might like Little Goody Two Shoes! It’s a RPG horror game with a very unique whimsical art style. It reminds me a lot of the Alice in Wonderland game you played a while back :0 It came out about 10 months ago, and I only just found it through a video essay recently. If you think it’s something you’d enjoy, would love to see you play it!! I haven’t seen a lot of people playing it and it makes me so sad, the game looks so cool!!!
In the US there is no longer a 48 hour wait period for missing adults! But there used to be; in 2009 Brandon's Law went into effect in Minnesota after Brandon Swanson's family's hard work to change the 48 hour requirement for adults since Brandon was 19 when he went missing. It has since become nationwide policy to allow missing persons to be reported immediately but unfortunately not everyone is aware that the laws have changed. Since the game takes place in 1994 the 48 hour thing would have been true.
I think your idea of the game would be better. If you have to make a call and capture or kill the mimic it would be a more unique experience. It would be even better if the mimic was randomised every playthrough between all NPC's (including the other cop).
Regarding the second game, I’d you can hear someone yelling, then they can hear you, too! Having to “go check it out” would be my LAST resort. I would just yell my brothers name and see if I heard his voice yelling back. But then again I wouldn’t go alone, at night, or unarmed.
two things, if your engine is running hot you don't leave it on to keep your lights on and another is you don't stand outside your car in the middle of nowhere at night waiting for the engine to cool off.
As much as I love my three brothers I don't think I would be going to search for them in a trail in the deep woods, not because of fear of something happening to me in the process of searching for them but out of fear that my would suffer more if they had two sons go missing.

It's kind of funny to me that gab will leave her house door wide open in horror games but also be as realistic as possible with driving.
Probably all that time spent in Japan
i also find it funny that gab will leave doors open while jack will always close them

If there was a such thing as mimics so many people would be dead just from suspicion alone.
