Here kitty kitty kitty! When I visited the Hemingway house in 2005, I was not happy. The girlfriend wanted to go (big cat fan!). After spending 4 hours there, I have to admit I really enjoyed it. Helped I was already a Hemingway fan. Been a fan of his cats since 2005. She was right, it was awesome. I need to schedule another Key West trip!
Blue Heaven is our favorite place for breakfast and if you stay away from alcohol you can have breakfast for a very reasonable cost. The food is always great. We have not yet checked out the other restaurants owned/operated by the Blue Heaven family but are sure they are just as great. Boyd's is the best place to camp near Key West, but not cheap. Two other campgrounds on Stock Island are a little cheaper, but there is a reason. The only campground left on the actual Key West key is on the Navy base and you must be active or retired military to use and it is booked a year or so more in advance. Our favorite place to camp is Big Pine Fishing Lodge. It is cheaper, clean and you have the Key deer and are only 30 miles from Key West. We finally rented a scooter and it is worth it, free parking, easy in and out pays for the rental rate. Have watched the sunset from Malleroy Square, on top of LaConcha hotel and the beach at Fort Zachary State Park. Fort Zach is our favorite as it is less crowded and offers a great view and you can get a good shot of sailboat going by. An hour or so before you get a great view of cruise ships leaving. Wish I could share the photo from the sunset a few weeks ago with my comment.
Thank you for sharing my home town, never a dull moment down here, we live on a 44 foot PRIVILEGE CATAMARAN based at city marina, no parking issues for us, we bicycle every where, when we sail, we always end up at ST CROIX, beautiful island, but we enjoy just sailing the Florida coast lines.
Drafted 65' Veteran- Retired at age 55 in 05' Lived in Lauderdale in the mid 70's( after living in Canada) and what a change of Weather! Opposit Living.. Hibernate indoors durning the summer months( Jun-Sept) in A/C, but can go out in evenings , get's cooler in the Low 80's..But the Humidity is stifiling.. We grab a Island Hopper Plane and fly down to various Keys and It was Cheap back then.. Went back in 06' and Big Difference.. Expect to pay Double for everything than you pay on the Mainland or Tripple what you pay for at home.. They capitalize on the Tourist.. The Hurricane IRMA really Wiped things out for 18' and only about 50% had been Rebuilt by Tourist season.. I expect will take 2-3 yrs for things to get back to Normal.. And Better Building next time( Hurricane Resitance Building Codes Enforced)
Had to watch this yet again. We went directly to Key West for a week's holiday from the UK a couple of years ago, and we really loved the place. This video was one of the ones we watched that sold us on the place. I think about Key West often, both my wife and I really want to go there again. Quite expensive flying from the UK via Maimi and staying in Key West, but we will definitely be back for a longer stay.
Hope you enjoy hanging in the Keys with us! Next stop is back up north for a little more sailboat shopping. OK, we're just normal people and we make mistakes sometimes...so if you are watching and you're a pelican pro then you'll know we flubbed that line. I think we have it backwards, oh well.
Cute couple, great video. I lived in Key West, whoa , almost 40 years ago !!! I'm in Key Largo now, ready to head to Key Weird for a new start. Loved your video. Love Mallory Square, fire eaters, chain saw jugglers, so many artist's !!! One of the things I love about the Keys, is animals rule !! Dog's lie in the street and you have to drive around them, chickens roost everywhere, not to mention the iguana's sunning themselves. Nothing like coming home. I worked for Key West Marine Salvage so many years ago, retired Ship's Captain. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and my son's baby prints are in sidewalks all over Key West, so he has bragging rights as every time I saw wet concrete I stamped his feet and butt prints all over the town. LOL Now, he takes his girl friends to see his baby feet and ass cheeks. LOL
Great video. My wife and I dry camp on Key West for 3 to 4 months each Winter. We love Blue Heaven and places like Captain Tony's. A popular happy hour place is Two Friends on Bay street one block off Duval. free parking in the rear, live music and a pound of steamed shrimp w/bread for $10.95. We usually share or take half back to the RV for lunch.
Must be retired military (?) We've dry camped at Trumbo Point NAS many, many, times. Started in 1995. Was much better then - still is an OK stop. Totally reasonable. There was always Sigsbee Park, NAS - full hook up, etc. Retired Avionics USAF MSgt.
Anytime I get key west home sick I watch this video rhank you so much i lived off duval twice in the last 4 year's for like 6 months and this is the exact side of keywest i saw. You guys remind me of me and my ex fiance sadly she left me so it wont be the same when I move back next year but its still home.
Thank you for a great video. I was stationed in Key West Submarine Base a long, long, long time ago. Lot has changed, I still love Key West and I go on vacation there sometimes. Thanks.
This has to be my favorite video of you guys so far! It's not about being on the road it's about having fun and making memories. And Nikki, that dinner dance was crazy hot. :-) You and another couple on you tube (The More We Explore) are my favorite channels and I'm always checking for updates. Looking forward to your next adventure.
THAT VIDEO MADE MY DAY AFTER A BLOWOUT TWO MILES FROM MY EXIT. KEY WEST REMINDS ME OF NEW ORLEANS BUT MUCH CLEANER AND NICER. I REALLY HOPE YOU TWO GET YOUR PERFECT BOAT. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE AND I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE PAST 25 YEAR'S WENT BRAIN STILL SAY'S I'M 30 GET IT WHILE YOU CAN GET IT. HAVE A NICE EASTER.
Wow little old video but me and My firends are coming to Florida for two weeks this friday And i have birthday just when we are in keywest looking beautiful . Greetings from cold Finland !
I am not as big RV fan my 5th wheel camper and I have a love hate relationship mostly hate. i used it to travel/live for work for years. You two are definitely a good fit for the sailing community you're growing on me!
I met a 90 year old woman at a key lime shop then again near the area where everyone watches the sunset. She was spunky and walked everywhere as if she was only 55 years old! So cool.
First time--ever! --that I was disappointed that a video was ending! I could watch and listen to both of you for a much longer time! Thank you for that delightful clip!
My wife and I try to get down there once a year (we live in central FL so it's not too bad). We're going back in late June and this video is making me so excited to get back! And you've gone to several of the spots we always visit - Conch Republic Seafood, B.O.'s, Blue Heaven. Another great spot for beers and people watching is The Porch on Duval. All of your videos are great, though.
Thanks for the recommendation for blue heaven restraunt, that was excellent. Me and the fiance stayed 2 weeks brought our camper down from N.C . What a blast, we done so much and enjoyed our stay bigtime ! Got to see a good friend in marathon florida my buddy jay took me out on one of his boats, has a boat rental business what a trip this has been! That sunset in mallory square was awesome, I could go every evening, Heading home now cheers everyone !!!🙏👍
Had the BLT (Bacon/Lobster/Tomato) Eggs Benedict when I was there last and it was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Glad to hear you had a good experience too!
Thank you for taking us along!! My partner and I were just there in June 2017 and instantly fell in love. This video made us miss it so much and get giddy about all the sights we saw and places we missed!!
Recently had a friend point me towards your website/blog, which led me to your TH-cam vids. Love the information you're sharing. Couldn't help but notice the one of the street performers is a magician known as Gazzo. Rather well known guy in busking and magic circles. The guy is an incredible performer. If you ever get the chance to see him perform it's well worth the time (and a few bucks if you tip).
Andi and I was just there in January.. We went there instead of Quartzsite!! And yes very expensive and we stayed in Siesta Key. We parked on the Naval Station there as I am disabled veteran!! That saved us some money and worry! I got the same pic of the car too and of course hit the same "tourist" spots. Andi love Duval Street!! Hope you had a great time!!
We were there in December. I travel hack and needed to burn some points so choose Key West - it was dead. Most eateries were empty except for the ones near the water and even those weren't crowded. There are some small beaches, but they are very limited. Shops downtown one after the other sell the same stuff. Just a warning to those expecting an all out party atmosphere. I didn't mind Key West, because I actually go on vacation to relax rather than overwhelm myself doing things so morning breakfast then lounging around the hotel pool then going out in the evening for dinner making us plenty happy. Well, makes me happy, we brought my mother along and my wife and her did some touristy things during the day while I spent the day by the pool. My wife loves to take pictures and video so she needs her daily dose on a scale like no other and she is so happy about doing it no one can say no to her. Key West is a good casual time not a good spring break kind of time. Neither of us want to go back. We enjoy beaches.... and pools. It seems an overpriced town for what it offers. Just our personal opinions. It seems well positioned for rich older tourists. Our stay there was completely free - I'd never pay to go/stay there. Again, personal opinion.
I spent a week in Key West two years before the hurricane hit it. It reminded me a lot of Mexican border towns in the 1980s and 1990s. My impressions were the tourist area was small and could be walked in one day on the narrow and often uneven sidewalks, the commercial buildings on Duval were mostly small wooden structures that had seen better days, there were a lot of stores selling t-shirts and other cheap-looking tourist items that would mainly appeal to teens and there was an abundance of very casual bars and restaurants mainly catering to blue collar tourists who drove there from nearby states and the brief influx of day visitors from cruise ships. Maybe I am spoiled because I used to live within a short drive of Honolulu and few US tourist areas do well when compared to Honolulu. For my money, a visit to Florida is best spent doing tourist things in Orlando, Sarasota and Miami -- those cities have cleaner tourist areas, decent parking spaces are easier to find and there are plenty of high-end restaurants and bars that do not cater to the rowdy all-you-can-drink crowd. The scenic drive through the Keys is definitely worth the time on a sunny day and so is the boat ride to Fort Jefferson that leaves from Key West, but I cannot recommend an entire week's stay in one of those small but expensive guest houses scattered throughout the crowded residential areas of Key West.
You guys were on the wharf right by where I stay! I love staying at The Marker. The wharf is so much fun. Dante's isn't my favorite, but A&B Lobster is awesome and so are the historical boat tours. Next time I go down, I plan to hit up Fort Jefferson.
Ahhh, yes.....Key West, that breezy, beautiful, relaxing tropical hideaway. A great place to stand around and watch tourists who are standing around watching tourists - who are standing around watching tourists. (As well as all of the freaks who call that area "home".) The entire island has been converted into a giant theme park - at least that is the attitude & atmosphere, designed to separate you from your money and move you on to the next tourist stop as smoothly as possible. Very efficient, very sanitized, and very expensive. Make sure you take lots of pictures to show your friends so they will come down and spend their money, too!
I've lived in the Florida Keys for ~40 years. I live a mile from that "Square Grouper" restaurant you portrayed, and yet have never been there. I've been to that Bluewater RV resort and the Blue Heaven restaurant, each only once. I'm not a tourist. It has probably been 30+ years since I've been to a restaurant in Key West. I only go to Key West to get groceries and other provisions maybe 2 or 3 times a month, even though I live only 25 minutes away. I live in the Keys for the weather and water sports like sailing and diving. The biggest nuisance in the Keys is the chickens and dogs. The roosters wake you up before dawn and the dogs run loose and shit everywhere and their owners don't clean up after them. Many areas of the Keys is like living in a third world county, such as Cuba or Haiti, with the housing and other living costs the highest in Florida and equivalent to New York city.
I was stationed in Key West from 2012-2015. To actually live there is awesome. I miss Key West, I want to go back soo bad. Thanks for the quick memories.
I see my Midsouth Garrison sticker is still alive and kicking on the BO's truck 6 years later, although all the color is gone from the brutal tropical sun. And I can't believe you still had that much beer in your hand when you got to Mallory after the walk from Conch Republic.
I.m from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 and I visited key West. I really enjoyed it. It is one of the best island if is not the best in Caribbean region. Life is simple. People there live spontaneously life. I saw chickens in the street. I felt my self i,m in Indonesia but with American standards of infrastructure. I really love it. It is the last spot of United state of America. I hope I will visit it again
I was stationed at Boca Chica NAS, 2nd island out, from '65 to '67. Completely different back then! I was 18 with nothing to do, so a group of us would travel up the keys to Miami. No cruise ships visiting, a small beach, very little traffic and no large hotels. Those narrow bridges were breath taking and some people took their last breath on them! I always said, if you are an alcoholic, fisherman, or married, then it would be OK. I was happy to complete my two year tour of duty, so I would be transferred to another duty station. I'd like to take a trip to Key West to see how much it has changed.
Cool video! Key West is only a 30 min flight from my home airport. I love flying down there with friends to spend the day. Glad you guys had a good time!
Love Key West!!!! Parking is most definitely a premium - even for golf carts!!! Instead of settling for an extreme short stop on a cruise spend that money staying in Key West for a few days!! We stayed at The Gardens Hotel and loved it! We ate at Blue Heaven twice while we were there. Fantastic food!
Great video, I chatted with the folks at Bluewater Key RV Resort about a reservation for two weeks in May of 2017. Lots to research, I'm guessing you would recommend that campground ? Thanks and Happy Travels.
Thanks for the usual high standards guys. I love it when you do a few stops before you get where you're going, it's always a fun, educational tour. Cheers 🍺🍻🍹
Rode our Harley there last year. Stayed right on Duval street. Now there is a party. Hope you guys enjoy your selves and maybe have a cold beer and smoke a good cigar.
I live here and love it. Your video was well made. Great job guys and hope you had a great time. If you want to see a good sunset head to Ft. Zach. Good local food can be found right past Blue Heaven called Firefly.
In 2001, my wife and I spent 3 days in Key West. We were bored much of the time. But experiencing the same Key West vicariously through you guys, it was EXCITING. Go figure.
Make sure you check out the Jet Ski Tour, was one of the best ways see the island and a if it your first trip to Key West a great way to get familiar with the island. 2-hour, 26 Miles tour of Key West’s coastline with several stops. We were educated on Key West’s history, the landmark’s, the beaches & some of the best places to visit. The trip took us around the entire coast, past landmarks & historical sites also in between the islands and through the mangroves. The name of the company that does the tour is Barefoot Billy’s and I recommend the tour to anyone visiting Key West.
Your video brought back so many memories of the Florida Keys for me.

Glad you had such a good time...We spends 3 months in the Keys Jan-April and Square Grouper is one of our favorites.
Love Key West. Our favorite place to warm up and relax. Nice to watch this video and see familiar places while sitting here in Iowa during the winter.

That's what Key West is....fun and relax. Been there and going back again!
Great video. My wife and I dry camp on Key West for 3 to 4 months each Winter. We love Blue Heaven and places like Captain Tony's. Key West is a haven for old hippies and a throwback to the60s- 70s.
That’s for sure, we love the vibe down there.

I love all the chickens and roosters around.
Visited last December on a cruise ship and had a great time. We were the only ship in town and it was not busy. Cool place to visit.
Fantastic couple
This has to be my favorite video of you guys so far! It's not about being on the road it's about having fun and making memories. Looking forward to your next adventure.

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to make this!

Very Kool experience! I enjoyed this because you showed me places I’d been before.
we were there in February for my 50th birthday so thanks I hit all the same places and can't wait to go back.

I see my Midsouth Garrison sticker is still alive and kicking on the BO's truck 6 years later, although all the color is gone from the brutal tropical sun.
And I can't believe you still had that much beer in your hand when you got to Mallory after the walk from Conch Republic.
Thanks for the tour, loved it; on my wish list.
I hope I will visit it again
lol i love that there's chickens everywhere
Key west is cool. Want to go back!
You guys are a joy to behold.
Wow, still 4 years later this video is awesome!
Great video we came home last week after being in the keys for two months. We like all the same places.

One of the best key west vids I have seen thanks
You both have such damn nice smiles.....All the best!
Thx for vid. Went to keys in june 2018. Ate at blue heaven. Made me miss. I love
Awesome.... Key west is on my list u gave us alot to do when were there🤗
Cool video! Key West is only a 30 min flight from my home airport. I love flying down there with friends to spend the day. Glad you guys had a good time!

key west is a beautiful place, thanks for sharing.
Beautiful scenery out there wow
Nice video, makes you feeling like travelling to Key West again!
Back in the '70s a friend of mine found a Square Grouper while vacationing in FL.
Keep up the good work, you are good at what you do.
excellent video quality and editing..... plus great tour of town... thanks
Cheers 🍺🍻🍹
This vlog just had it all! My favorite "episode" yet. :)
I agree loved the beer
Another great entertaining video. That food looked delicious! lol. Thumbs up. You guys rock, Keep'em comin.
Rode our Harley there last year. Stayed right on Duval street. Now there is a party. Hope you guys enjoy your selves and maybe have a cold beer and smoke a good cigar.
Thanks for the videos. You guys seem really nice. Keep enjoying life!!!!
I live here and love it. Your video was well made. Great job guys and hope you had a great time. If you want to see a good sunset head to Ft. Zach. Good local food can be found right past Blue Heaven called Firefly.
Lovely place
"There is nothing like coming back to a place you have been before. Remembering..." I wish I can come back to Key West soon lol
One of the most favorite ride on a motorcycle you could have, out of CAFB MS. Only thing a little different the food,$$$
In 2001, my wife and I spent 3 days in Key West. We were bored much of the time. But experiencing the same Key West vicariously through you guys, it was EXCITING. Go figure.
Key West and Duval St. Gotta Love it!!!!
We were down there 2 weeks ago and had a riot.
Sloppy Joes 👍👍😎
whats the night life like? looks like it was a blast, but any advice or plans for people after dinner? really excited to visit!
Great video and content. Nice to see Key West again...it been a long time. 👍🇺🇸😎🥇⛵️
Having fun catching up to your beginning !! 😁👍⛵️⚓️
Wow! Another great video. Makes me want to go there. Thanks.
