  • Once I heard 180 was mostly re-opened down into Kings Canyon (the road was closed just before getting to Cedar Grove), I knew I needed to get down there. It was closed all last season due to damage to the road from the record rains we received the year before.
I hit all the vista points on the drive down into the canyon with the goal to hike Deer Cove trail a trail I had never hiked before. The drive down into the canyon is one of my favorite drives in California. Seeing the geology gets me awe struck every time. It’s such a special place.
Once I got to Deer Cove Trailhead, my goal was to make it to Deer Cove which is where the trail crosses Deer Cove Creek. It was a fun hike even though the trail needed some work which was justified since it has been neglected for over a year. The wildflowers were plentiful and views fantastic.
If you get a chance make the drive down and hike this trail. It is best hiked in the spring before it gets too hot or in the fall when it starts to cool down.

Now that is an over grown and less traveled trail.

Yeah it definitely needed some maintenance. I hope it got some after I hiked this!

We went to Boyden Caves back in late June. Then down to roads end. I forgot how nice it is back there. The last time I was down there was probably 20 years ago.
