    You calmly make it look so easy. My 2003 Chevy S-10 print out from AutoZone or Advance Auto said replace (cracked) distributer cap and rotor (I had tune up done at the garage 9 months ago). I will look under the hood again to see how easy the access is.

  • @bleepinjeep

    thanks, well, usually this means something is getting wet and more than likely shorting out. I would check your CPS and the wires to your cps to see if they are bare. also check your spark plug wires and get new ones if they are sparking over or old. also check your battery connections and ground.

    could be many things, cracked header is common on xj's but really you'd have to narrow it down because it could be 20 different things or more.

    For inquiring minds: Typically on XJs the firing order is printed on the intake manifold on the left side, front-most (towards the radiator, right out where you can see it but you may have to take a wire brush and some brake cleaner and scrub it up if your baby is a little rusty)

    it is special dielectric grease, it is specifically made for electrical connectors and keeps the water out and metal from corroding together.

      BleepinJeep from what I've been told it also helps with current flow. Please correct me if i am wrong.

      @@Precisionstriker That's a common misconception, dielectric grease is a poor conductor of electricity.

    diagnosing what?

  • @monroedanio
    @monroedanio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are saying to add dielectric grease at the distributor cap end. I have read that it is only to be used at the spark plug end to keep the boot from sticking to the spark plug, (the ceramic area of the spark plug). Please explain why you are using it at that end..I'm new to this and want to replace the cap and rotor on my '84 280sl Merz..Thank you for the video and input..you make it look easy..even for a girl. :)

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The grease just helps keep water out wherever you use it and also keeps things from being tight years down the road when you go to remove them.

      My problem is everytime it rains now my car won't start..at this point taking off the distributor cap to dry it out when it stops raining long enough doesn't help. It won't start at all now!..so I'm trying a new rotor and distributor cap to see if in there lies the problem. Do you have any suggestions besides that to keep my car running through the rainy season?..I've tried spraying WD 40..it's not working. Thanks!

    put a new distributor cap and rotor arm in my mk2 golf and it started first time within a second, i left it running till it reached temperature and then i literally touched the gas and then it died! so i tried to turn it on again and still nothing, so i removed the cap and rotor arm and put it all back on properly, ensuring i pushed down on the spark plugs on the dizzy cap and tried to turn it on again and still nothing? can anybody help me? it's a brand new cap and rotor which was the only problem.

    Question. On warm up, my '89 has recently started to idle a bit rough. I've checked for vacuum leaks and I haven't found or heard any. Could it be an intake manifold leak? If not, what else could it be? P.S. I've recently changed the fuel filter, so I personally doubt it's a fuel delivery problem.

    • @ZKrow382

    Not marking your rotor & cables before removal is some fucking stupid advise; ALWAYS MARK THEM. On a chevy 1500 you Have to completely remove the cap to replace rotor; so you cannot place on spark plug wire one by one as shown here.
