1:15 "A monster known as a gensokyo roams around the world of this game." 1:28 "Players control a flying shaman known as a Danmaku to defeat the enemy while avoiding a constant onslaught of bullets." 5:53 Both the main narrator and Kermit the Frog agree that Seija is a perverse crossdressing man in gensokyo. 7:58 This Crossdresser is very passionate.
I read people getting a bit let's say angry cause of how little do the reporters know about Touhou but can we appreciate that these people actually devoted themselves to make a really long and not bad coverage on it? Idk about all of you but it's something really rare and great to see in places like regular tv shows. Not only that but they want to show it so people get into this awesome franchise or at least know it exists
Definitely agreed. ZUN is more or less a recluse (less so nowadays) so just being able to see the inside of his office, seeing him actually code Touhou on the fly, seeing him mess around in the music composition software, we wouldn't be able to see any of that without NHK setting this up. Honestly it would be a daunting task for anyone to cover the Touhou series in such a brief amount of time without prior knowledge lmao. Though they definitely could have benefit from just a few more google searches...
Mysterious Future hahaha actually ZUN officially anounced that HSiFS and AoCF will be on steam by the end of the year and next year respectively! Dreams do come true I guess
The information was ok, but it seemed that they used straight up google translate ignoring the fact that there are synonyms and that Japanese does not have gender indicating pronouns
I was about to comment "sounds like the dub script was made with Google Translate". I mean, _technically_ "shaman" is a similar enough concept to "shrine maiden" that that would make sense (for Google Translate to confuse the terms). About the most accurate information from the narrator is the pronunciations of the Japanese names.
"A monster known as a Gensokyo."? Well... Do I really have to comment on that? I'll just keep it short and say that it was downright pathetic. Thank you for taking the time to record the coverage, by the way.
You just gave me a idea. New Definition Proposal submitted to the Committee of Touhou Terminology: *Gensokyo*: 1. (_n., geog._) - the fictional land that the entire Touhou series takes place in. 2. (_n., anim._) - a youkai that has the ability to steal and manipulate one's intelligence in order to facilitate exploitation to fulfill its selfish desires. Also known to steal stolen items from Marisa Kirisame's home.
It looks and sounds like the man in the video is American, but living and speaking another language will confuse even native English speakers. Japanese doesn't differentiate between gender in pronouns as much as in English, so using 'he' instead of 'she' sounds like it'd be an easy mistake to make. So don't worry, Seija and Raiko aren't secretly men. As for the monster known as a Gensokyo, they have to make a show and they have a limited time frame. This was interesting regardless and you can't expect them to learn everything about it and recall it all with 100% accuracy. Remember when you first got into Touhou? Bet you weren't a supergenius on the subject then, were you?
Sorry, but i'm calling this BS. Just imagine if they were talking about any other (and more known) video-game franchise. How would anyone react if they said that Sonic is actually an eagle? How would anyone react if they said that Pikachu is a hellhound with electrical powers? These mistakes are cringeworthy and there shouldn't be any excuses for their non-professionalism. Nobody in their right mind would make a show about something they don't know, unless it's just pure sensationalism like in this video. The interview was interesting, though.
I'm guessing the gender mistake came from the fact that their "monsters in human form" and that makes them a "he" apperantly. No clue about the other mistakes though
They called Reimu by her name, and then called her a danmaku immediately afterwards. That's not a matter of time constraints, that's just dropping the ball. Spending a good 10 minutes having some intern run over the script with google open would have fixed quite a few of the issues people are having. Whining aside, LOCALIZATION AND FREE ADVERTISING, WOOOO!
See, the way I see it, it makes sense to call Seija the opposite of whatever she actually is, so these reporters actually were showing just how well they had done their research when they called her a guy repeatedly.
