I agree we don’t need a new origin story, but the writing for superman has to be done so he has some kind of arc. Similar to how they did Spiderman with Holland, we skip the shit we’ve seen already but there was still mad growth.

But I have faith in Gunn, he writes very character driven stories and makes you care so much about characters within minutes, Gunn hasn’t missed once in his comic book related projects so I have a lot of confidence he will bring something great to fruition!

@@ChadBenjamin well man of steel is an origin story but returns captures the character a lot better. Zod of course is a 100x better villain than spacey’s Luthor but the film manages to capture plenty of Superman iconography and captures it with heart whereas I feel Snyder captured man of steel with more “epic” which is fine if you loved that then happy for you, just didn’t do much for me personally. It’s a better movie than Superman returns absolutely… just not a better Superman movie in my opinion.
Starting with Green Arrow is a great idea. You can have Speedy and the Seven Soldiers of victory which implies other METAs and the JSA. Also green arrow and speedy are like more relatable and human versions of Batman and Robin which is one of the reasons why Green Arrow was great in the DCAU from JLA in the early 2000s. Also Green Arrow could be DC's RDJ
If Gunn is smart he will steer clear of all the sidekick crap. Fans seem to refuse to realize what those movies would look like. There's a reason Burton, Nolan, Snyder, and Reeves refused Robin. It alters the dynamic and compromises Batman. Fans want their heroes to be serious...but hang out with children sidekicks?! It doesn't work. Light-hearted, comedic, self-mockery would be the result.

first, i agree with what jei is saying like we don't need another superman origin story or a young superman who's just started working at the daily planet and learning about his powers but have a superman who is ready to fight galactic threats and not stay on earth 24/7, have a superman who can take on brainiac or darkseid.
James Gunn confirmed it isn’t an origin story. The interesting thing is that Superman has a lot of villains but the majority won’t translate well to live action but having James Gunn write it he’s probably the most willing to have bizarre villains or characters

No character goes over the actor at Marvel. If they don’t have a suitable role even if there are characters that he might do well in if that character isn’t in the plan they won’t get him. They won’t shoehorn a random character just to get an actor. There have been talks with Keanu Reeves at Marvel but they haven’t put him in a anything because no character fits at the moment. They’re not going to hire him just to spit in DC face.

Not only did they do Henry dirty they did Michael Keaton dirty. Michael Keaton was supposed to come back as the OG Batman and then they scrap that idea re-shot everything and then he’s out. Batgirl was out before she even gotta a chance. Black Adam was supposed to be Rated R.

I think Gunn is as fit as anybody else. The problem is that the former WB executives created a situation so bad that not many people even wanted the job. But no matter who took it, this soup sandwich of a DCEU had to be put down. And you can't reboot into a "DCU" holding on to this or that actors while releasing others. It just wouldn't feel right seeing Cavill interact with a completely different actor as Batman. What they should do is scrap this obsession to create a shared universe and make epic Superman films with Cavill. Leave the shared crap to Marvel, where heroes have dance offs with villains in the middle of a battle or twerk in offices.

Gunn has replied to a Tweet, stating that it won't be another origin story. It will be picking up following Clark/Superman where we find him at (So it could well be a Year 1 thing).
James gun clearly said when he wanted a younger Superman, he specifically said that Superman would already be working at the daily planet, so when he means younger, he means probably 25 to 28, so no, not brightburn young

I'm with Blitztek on the Superman thing. All Gunn said was that he wanted a young Superman. He literally responded to a fan and said he wasn't doing an origin story. What Gunn said is closer to The Batman then starting with Clark starting out from being an origin story.

FACTS , leave batman alone for a while . They could just kinda hint as him as a myth or ghost story and then straight up drop him in a project nobody is expecting , that'd break the internet if he was revealed in a final trailer or something when that time comes
If we look at what made the original MCU the phenomenon it was and how it was kickstarted I think it was due to the digestibility of it, it catered to both oldschool comic readers (who knew Ironman and Cap) and also to the new generation who was inspired by heroes and their teamup. Start it with light-hearted, family friendly, digestible movies (unlike The Batman) and then drop the beginnings of the JL.
IMO the new universe has to begin with Superman, he is literally the perfect character for it, even better than Ironman and Cap. Gunn can do whatever he wants regarding the story but the movie that comes out has to be good in terms of script, writing, tone, CGI, star peformance, etc. Once you put out a solid Superman movie it will cement him as the OG of the new Justice League, make him likeable and make audiences want to see more of him. Then the next I think should be Wonder Woman, she presents female representation and a the duo of Supes and WW will be a strong anchor for the new JL. Next should be Shazam, using him you can appeal to the kid audience who can identify with Shazam and delve into the mystical side of the DC universe. Most important of all these 3 will remain relatively light-hearted and kid friendly. Final 2 members of the starting lineup I think is Green Arrow and Green Lantern, Green arrow will be the most human of them all, present a cocky attitude and joke around (similar to Hawkeye role). Since they need a tech guy I wouldnt be mad if they gave Green Arrow that role. Then Green Lantern will be the catalyst for the actual "universe" portion of it, he will bring the big threat that they need to teamup against. Whether it is Darkseid, Braniac, Starro, Sinestro, etc. Also will be another cocky brash youngster to the team.
Notice how I left out Batman, this is because I think he is too dark for the JL off bat, also because of the direction Reeves is going with him. I agree he should be kept out until Reeves finishes with him then introduce Batman to an established JL. Batman should come in first as an anti-hero, in fact he can battle against the JL at first before joining them.
Point is there is literally so much you can build in this universe but it all hinges on these first few movies. Do Superman, Wonder Woman and Shazam/Green Arrow. Get them right and it will be a no-brainer. The only sticky fact is we will need some time to get rid of the image of the Snyderverse. If you do another Superman movie next year, the comparisons will be inevitable. I think to do this universe fully properly it needs atleast 5 yr gap between which is sad for us DC fans.

With what James Gunn did with Peacemaker, being just a regular human it's the best idea to start with Green Arrow, Black canary and Deathstroke... could be awesome.
No. He has even stated Superman is the foundation. That Trinity Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman is the core of the universe. Especially Superman who’s there most valuable IP why wait more time to make a new one.
If we need to start, we should go backwards to the Justice Society of America; Dr. Midnight, Hourman, Citizen Steel, Dr. Fate, The Sandman, Black Canary, Green Lantern (Alan Scott - the one who's vulnerable to wood), and their primary foe could be Dr. Destiny, of whom Skeletor took his look, and not the other way around. This way the story happens on Earth. We can do the Green Lantern Corps later on, because it should be given the type of seriousness that involves an entire trilogy!
Definitive answer is how did he even get put in charge of the poor mistakes that he's causing. The downfall of DC was destined to happen after Snyder was let go for sure. Any director no matter who is as good as Snyder. He's a visionary and makes great movies that make sense to true DC fans. Not his Christopher Reeves character types of movies. That should be completely in the past. Especially for the current era that we're in now. It's not as jolly and good as it used to be.
Y’all said who was a Mr Terrific but the same could be said for daredevil, luke cage, Jessica Jones, Antman etc all not Tier A characters but marvel made it work. Either way they def need to launch with a character that hasn’t been used in years or EVER & Green arrow is a great choice

Martian Manhunter is a good insert to me. He’s a outer space character that can be on earth. The Snyderverse ran through way too many storylines way too quickly. While burning them to the ground. I'm all for a reset, as I'm loyal to the DC characters first before the actors. Even the people who don't like Snyder's DC films love Cavill, it's absolutely insane that they've got rid of him just after he finally got to come back for the first time in half a decade. I'm just glad his story ends on a positive note in Zack Snyder's Justice League. Knightmare vision aside 😅
It’s not insane. Cavills Superman was expensive & always under performed at the box office. Not everything is a creative decision. DC film couldn’t afford to continue any version of the Snyderverse, a couple more flops could do the studio in.
@@Pietothesky Cavill has only been in 1 solo Superman movie that I know. And Gunn's last Suicide movie failed to make more than it's budget, but I don't see him firing himself. To me most of the other DC films just need better scripts. Alienating your audience by firing everyone they can possibly love is a recipe for disaster. Well like the OP said, he better know what's he's doing because the franchise isn't actually dead yet, but he has the ability to truly make it soar or drive it completely over the cliff.
@@artdogg50 You can’t compare the Suicide Squad to Henry Cavill’s situation. Suicide Squad was in the pandemic, on day and date on HBOMax, and had to deal with the baggage of the first. There’s to much baggage with DC if the car has to many broken pieces you trying to make patch jobs won’t make it feel brand new.

3 movies in the first year. Superheroes exist and are accepted. Start with a Swamp thing horror movie(Let John Constantine do a cameo),a Greew Arrow Spy/action movie(with Black Canary as a side character), a Blue Beetle movie that takes place during WW1 and is more of a Indiana Jones movie with the original archeologist who finds the scarab and doesn't unlock its power until the final act.
Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman should all have been known and operating for at least 2-5 years. They should all met at least once by this point. Dick Grayson should already be in the picture and be about 15-16yrs old. Themyscira should still be hidden from the world, Lois Lane hasn't figured out who clark is just yet. 2nd year 3 movies, Superman against Lex arms dealing(Lois figures it out), 2nd, Batman and Robin have beef butt work it out, but robin still leaves the Bludhaven to become Nightwing, 3 Cyborg movie, origin done in a flashback. Fights against a invasion of Biotechno Alien race.
The first ones I’ve watched that have said Cavill right lol. I’m just going to have to wait and see who they cast as the new Superman, hopefully their casting still does a great job.

I'm sure y'all seen this by now, but Black Adam 2 has been shelved. It's not part of "phase 1". They have cut all of Keaton and Affleck's scenes from I believe Aquaman as well.

Unfortunately origin stories seem to be the most interesting. Probably because when once a person becomes that character, the character tends to be pretty static.

Nobody wants old superheroes Jei. Green Arrow isn’t popular enough for fans to know his origin. But I do agree with bringing him and Batman together.
They should have made ZSJL 2 & 3 to finish that arc with Man of Steel 2 and Aquaman 2 and Wonder Woman 3 in between them. Then END the DCEU with the Flash movie rewriting the whole slate. As a non toxic Zack Snyder fan I would have been okay with this. To have everything just cut off and people get fired after they are told they are coming back. THAT in itself is toxic.

I always loved DC comics. Some of the movies it has spawned have been legit. I remember watching Batman (1989) as a kid. It was one of the first movies I remember seeing in a theatre. At the time it was the most amazing thing I’d seen. This whole cohesive DC movie universe has utterly collapsed. Perhaps a reboot is needed, or perhaps DC should just give up on the idea and make great movies that are not connected to each other in an overarching story.

The MCU did something even the MCU can’t repeat or emulate. It was a phenomenon the likes of which we won’t see again. It’s not a model, it was magic in s bottle. It can’t and shouldn’t be an overarching framework for how comic books can be adapted for the screen. DC have some of the best characters, just create great stories. No more universes. Just great individual films allowing for creative diversity as you currently have with The Joker or Pattinson’s Batman. The problem are the scripts. Start with great scripts and everything else will follow.

yeah, fans are going crazy, but honestly I don't blame Gunn completely, I blame the old WB regime for the mess they left, but to just flat out ditch Henry Cavil out of the blue, after how he got treated though, not like this, at least give us a conclusion or something with JL2 and JL3 to the chaacters, but the Superman movie that James Gunn wants to create sounds a lot like the animated movie Superman: Man of Tomorrow, with young Supes and Lobo, it's gonna take a while for WB to regain the trust of the fans, but at least James Gunn is open

Basically, Henry Cavill was doomed since Man Of Steel came out. Folks just didn’t like Zack Snyder’s take on the character, or the films thereafter; his Justice League was better than Joss Whedon’s’, but that ain’t saying much at this point. Gunn had to do what he had to do.

If we want DC to be great for a decade then they have to reboot. Kevin feige would have done the same thing. I don’t know why he’s writing a Superman movie but I trust the process. We can say marvel is up and down but their gonna survive for another decade.
People are always gunna complain but James is building thru a ten year plan. He isn’t doing a short term thing. So being stuck on Cavill don’t help. Cavill had his time. Technically he should have had three Superman films and two justice league films. Unfortunately it didn’t work out that way. That’s okay. I have no issue with where gunn takes the DCU. He has also said it will be influenced by justice league unlimited and young justice. So I know it’s in good hands.

No. He left The Witcher, as they were straying so far from the books. After doing the cameo, WB said he was welcome back to the roll of Superman, but James Gunn said it wouldn't happen, as he is aiming younger (but not young-young). ;)
The first movie could be a Martian manhunter movie. People like him, he’s not been a in movie expect Zack Snyder jl and could tie into a Superman movie.
