This is in Manchester England with The Lonesome And Penniless Cowboys in St Anne's Square and The Band on The Wall. It was broadcast on Granada TV in the late 1980s. I love it.
This video was posted 12 years ago and is still standing taller than any of the music of today in 2024. Great editing showing his different performances without sacrificing the audio.
RIP big fella, one of the best singer and song writers of the modern times. Ted Hawkins you are a legend. "I'm just a busker from the beach" I love this video thanks for posting
Love Ted and his Music, what a great man, saw him at the basement in Sydney Australia 20 years ago ?? his voice reverberatted in that little room and sent music up my spine into my brain ....I remember a yank yelling out God Bless you Ted. BLM people !
Hope this saves someone a headache: It kind of drove me nuts. He's playing in the key of B major. It is Open A tuning (E A E A C# E) w/ Capo 2. Also, thank you so much for posting this.
@@davidclarke1320you’re right. Not sure what I was smoking back then LOL. Much easier tuning to get to as well, hope I didn’t break a ton of people’s guitar strings over the years 😂
Thank you for this upload and all the information you featured it is just awesome , who cannot but LOVE him OMG I love music and the people that are leaving their love lights to us to be remembered and continued . Again thanks and love
Heard Ted on a cassette copy of World Café probably in mid '90's and his voice has been haunting me ever since. I still listened to that tape occasionally up until a couple years ago. So glad to find him again. The host of the show (World Café) wasn't overly respectful of Ted, possibly because he was unknown but his voice should have humbled the host. Hope he made some money before he passed.
Thanks for posting this, didn't even know this vid existed. I was so lucky to see him live, not once but twice; in Nottingham, England. Hippo Club in '86 and Rock City in '87 (smuggled a mono-cassette recorder in and got most of the '87 show). Must get it digitized before the tape disintegrates. What a guy he was, absolutely amazing singer, still miss him now after almost 18 years. RIP Ted.
Must be real cool being a street performer like Ted he knows all the ins and outs right dear Sue? Cool vid really enjoyed it All the stars for you gus : ) ♪ PS he can sing and play very nice he does
What is the name of this film? I was introduced to Ted Hawkins in Australia and fell in love with his music. I was so excited that I might see him perform one day only to return to the states and find out that he had transitioned. He is absolutely amazing despite all the difficulties that he faced in life. Thank you so much for posting.
Hello, Lynn. This is Amber (Artist from Pin Ups). What a disappointment to find I had misplaced your information. Please, email me. Amberjawilliams@gmail.com Hope to hear from you soon. -Amber :)
This is from a short profile that was shown on British t.v - Channel Four in 1987. I've posted a couple more clips . I saw Ted play a couple of times in the 80's , very modest sweet guy.
Amber Williams Hi Amber. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Email me at lynnlinnemeier@gmail.com and I will send you my contact info. Good to hear from you I lost contact info as well:(
Hey - if you're Ted's son's best friend will you do me a favour? Tell him I saw his Dad play a gig in Dundee, Scotland and it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen. His Dad remains a hero to me and I still play some of his songs.
(Hawkins claimed he could not play the blues because with his damaged fretting hand-he wore a leather glove to protect his fingers-he was unable to bend notes).

Actually, he’s playing in open D tuning (D A D F# A D) w/ capo 2 as E Major, which allows him to do bar chords in the key of B major.

Why did he play guitar with a glove on?
