- Ustad Fateh Ali Khan (born: 1935) is amongst the foremost Khayal vocalists alive today in Pakistan, and the last significant exponent of the Patiala Gharana (stylistic lineage). He is the younger of the singing duo "Amanat Ali-Fateh Ali", who enjoyed immense prestige and success in Pakistan as well as India, until the demise of Amanat Ali Khan (1932-1974).
Amanat Ali-Fateh Ali became celebrities while still in their childhood in undivided India, and achieved their highest official recognition in 1969, when the President of Pakistan conferred on them the Pride of Performance Medal. The Bade (elder) prefix got attached to Fateh Alis name after younger Pakistani musicians with similar names started making waves with an entirely different genre of music.

What a magical rendition of Adana! I wish it were a full berha khayaal. He is known to have said many times that Adana is one of his most favourite raags, and Adana and Darbari really bloom with his style of singing and his mastery of 'kharaj' (bass) and laeh-kaari in the lower octave.
I've never heard 'Kernel' (colonel) Fateh Ali who is mentioned in this bandish, but out of all the classical vocalists I've heard, the one and only true Taan Kaptaan (as well as Vilambit Kaptaan) is Khan saheb Ustad Fateh Ali Khan.

Hands down best Raag Adana I have ever heard in my life. Full of energy, and full of emotions. If you listen closely, Ustad Ji has utilized 'shuddha ni' to enhance the mood of this raag, which is very rarely done. 'Taan Kaptaan' moment brought me to tears. It shows how much Ustad Ji is recalling his lineage. Brilliant, brilliant, and brilliant.

LISTEN TO PANDIT JASRAJ - MATA KAALIKA...
This is shudh Ni uses in Aroh, in Avroh komal Ni is being used, but vadi is Taar Saa, therfore this raag is mostly sung on upper scale, In Darbari Kanhra - if you just change shudh Ni in aroh, this raag appears. It's mood of romantic, therefore never be singing Bada Khayal.

Jo dharm haar din ye teen mulk ka aam logoko garibi, bhukhmari, ashiksha, bimarika taraf dhakalte. Kaise? Ek baat bataiyeji, ye teen mulk haar saal kitna paisa kharch karte defense k like? Billions of dollars. Ek taraf Islam bench raha hai, aur dusrone Hinduttiya. Bade-Bade mulkse arms kharidte aur donohi bharpur commission khate. Hindu Muslimka batse logoko nehi uksaate to kaise ye kukarm bahal rakhenhe? Asalme ye dono baharse ek dusreka dushman zarur dekhate, lekin andarse ek dusre ka jigdi dost hai. Tark k khatir ek baat kalpana kijiye sahab, ye teen mulk ka andar koi border nehi, aise hoga to tab keys hoga? Do barash ka andarhi ye teen mulk me economic boom hoga. Q k geo politically tab threat k disabse keval China hi rah jaenge. Aur military expenditure adha go jaenge. Sarkar ka pass public ko serve Karen k jabardast fund hameshahi rah jaenge. Lekin ye log ye nehi mante, dharm ka naampe public ka lootmarika charcha jari rakhte. Log nehi samajhte sarkarka kaam public ko Sowarg/nark, Jannat/duzakh dena nehi. Ye shamta sarkar ka pass kavi nehi tha, na hai aur nehi honge. Ye teen mulk ka mittime keya nehi ugalte? Kiska kami hai Adi-Hindustan ka andar?

Be it Raag Jaunpuri, be it Yaman, be it Adana, be it Darbari, Sohni etc.etc. he has a place of his own in the commity of Big Classical Singers.
Miyan Kaloo Khan's disciples, son 'Jarnail' Ali Bakhsh Khan (1850-1920) and nephew 'Karnail' Fateh Ali Khan (1850-1909) founded the Patiala Gharana. Ustad Fateh Ali Khan Saheb's father Akhtar Husain Khan was the son of "Jarnail" Ali Bakhsh Khan.

@anjan this maestro will stand head and shoulders above rest im any era. Ustaads you have named were all greats but they were doing something they didn't need to sell, as classical music was well received back then, so this ustad deserves double appreciation for keeping it alive.

During my student days at Govt. College Lahore I used to attend and listen raag sessions almost regularly every week-end when Ustaad Amanat Ali khan &Ustaad Fateh Ali khan used to sing. I miss Ustaad Amanat Ali khan (merhoom) and pray for good health of Ustaad Fateh Ali Khan. Pride of PAKISTAN

@mlredr nope. Fateh Ali Karnail had a singing partner, Ali Baksh Jarnail. The dou were called ali-fattu. Fateh Ali sahab is decendant (great grandson) of Ali Baksh Jarnail.Karnail Fateh Ali was called Taan-Kaptan.

@dreamofswapn No, you are mistaken. The father of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was also named Fateh Ali, but he was known as Ustad Fateh Ali Khan (Qwaal).
He used to sing with his elder bro Ustad Amanat Ali Khan till the untimely demise of the latter in 1974. Ustad Nusrat's father bore the same name and incidentally belonged to the same Patiala Gharana , though belonging to a different gente, i.e. qawwali

Great artist compared to modern day artists but not as good as one or two generations before viz; Ustad Fayaz khan, Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, Pandit Omkar Nath Thakur, Pandit DV Paluskar,Ustad Amir Khan, Pandit Kumar Gandharv and so on. Why the art is on continuous decline?

How do you know he is not as good as them? Have you compared each of his performances with theirs? In fact you probably havent even heard them sing. Please stop throwing out names to show you know anything about this or any other raag. The art isn't in continuous decline, but rather people like you like to say so. Ustad Fateh Ali Khan would stand out in any era. The immense repertoire of his taans including "shair ki chingaar", "karak bijli ki taan" and obviously his trademark gammaks (including sliding gamak which he used in raags such as Shahana) are incomparable. He was simply peerless and the legendary Ustad Salamat Ali Khan fondly remembered his legacy in an interview he once gave in India. Period!
