@3:26 This is very misleading. The test used to test for psa is accurate only in detecting how many prostate proteins you have in your blood. This test does NOT measure cancer in any way. It is a very poor test because it produces MANY false positives and false negatives and you can have high psa due to multiple things like riding a bike, sexual activity or even constipation. The threshold value of 4, which your doctor will STRONGLY suggest you see a urologist, was made up - there is no scientific reason for this number 4. There are issues with calibration of the machine, and also there are differences in the results between different machines - if you get your psa checked on a different machine, it could easily be different. It could as easily have been 10, or 20. In fact you can't get a worse test. @4:25 a rise in spa is NOT most likely to be caused by the 3 common prostate conditions. around 70% of people who have a rise in psa are negative after they get a biopsy i.e. you have a HIGH percentage of false positives. Therefore the most common causes of high psa are OTHER factors than those 3 conditions! @5:06 the main reason for psa testing is NOT to test for prostate cancer. The test CANNOT detect cancer. It detects the amount of proteins in the blood specific from the prostate (even that is inaccurate but that's another topic). Some people with extremely low psa have cancer. Some people with high psa do not have cancer. The test is a useless test. All this test does is get more people through the urologists door to do tests. People who actually do have cancer have a tendency to have higher psa numbers. @7:42 It's true that most men will get prostate cancer. It's not true that it's a common cause of death in men. Out of 50 people who get get diagnosed with cancer, it will save the life on 1 person. The other 49 people will not die. It's one of the leading causes of death w.r.t. cancer in men, but that doesn't mean it's a 'common' cause of death. People in general either die of something else because in general the cancer has a slow burn rate or people actually die from the treatments and not the cancer itself. You should be aware that at 65 years old you have a 65% chance of having some sort of prostate cancer, 75 years 75% etc.Cancer doesn't just appear like a switch. So don't be too surprised if you're getting on in your years and they detect 'something'. The chances are it's heavily skewed towards a slow rate cancer that you don't need to treat. You can of course be the unlucky 1 in 50 but to me that's not bad odds (1:49 is the better odds than 49:1). You should also note that there are other factors in your life that have much higher odds of killing you like heart disease, it's just that you've been given a heads up to this condition and you're freeking out with that word 'cancer'. Take your time, do NOT get rushed into a bad choice, read up on everything you can on it and make the choice that's right for you.
Yes.agree 100 pct.only The LORD GOD knows when you will die. He has power to heal All malignant disease even leprosy in Bible. Trust in the LORD JESUS CHRIST.amen
This video is dated. Use of the Biopsy as the first procedure after abnormal PSA has been replaced by an mpMRI Scan which contains imagery that is directly related to Prostate Cancer. A good website to understand modern procedures is pcri.org. This is the website of the Prostate Cancer Research Institute in Los Angeles and they have many informative videos relating to Prostate Cancer, its diagnosis and its treatment.
This is an excellent video for those looking for guidance as to whether to biopsy or not with steady but slow rise in PSA and negative DRE. By using Age Adjusted PSA Levels, PSA velocity, amount of free PSA/ bound PSA, and the newer PCA3 test (not covered in this video) one might intelligently decide whether a biopsy with subsequent risks is warranted.
This info is from 7 years ago. At age 60 my PSA was 12.4 Due to WBC was a bit high, was put on an antibiotic, with follow up 6 weeks later rose to 21.6 Outcome advanced prostate cancer.
My PSA ís 24 and i am 76. Tissue Biopy 2 times: no cancer! But my urologist sent me to MRI: 1 suspicious spot of cancer. So he sends me to targeted MRI. I refuse to do it. I pee ok. Pee only 1 time at night. Even i have cancer, i wont die before age 80.
so Free n Bound must Define as... Water Base vs Oil or Proton Positive Free vs Conjugated Proton,,, Wrapped in Album or Ligated in Acquiescent ions... Whats Goin in vs Whats commin out.
My prostate biopsy lead to metastasis to the bone. I was not informed by my allopathic MD of this possible side effect! Can you understand why he didn’t tell me?
That's horrible. The whole thing is profit driven - it's a conveyor belt. The psa test is actually useless for screening. It literally is used to get more people tested by casting a wider net. After that it's test after test and procedure after procedure. Then you're left with the consequences.
high level of psa is good, you have cancer, your body is fighting, for those who have a low psa, you can still have cancer but your body is not fighting the problem, so they don't know, so someone with high psa can get the prostate remove before the cancer spreads to other ogans, thank god I have cancer, I will get the prostate removed before it travels to other organs , so if your psa is low , prey you don't have cancer, because no one will know before it is to late. and it spreads to other organs, bugger
Good information.

Very informative. I hope to see more sophisticated testing in the future so we can prevent unnecessary biopsies...ouch!!!!

Very informative. I have had radiation and hormone therapy, now wanted to know safe PSA levels.
I enjoy going to my local Asian massage parlor and getting a special prostate massage.

You’re a heartless disgrace. Cancer is serious and you’re joking about going to prostitutes.

Doctors do not know anything about PSA and prostate cancer and conducting biopsy test and damage people's lives
