I love how in dnd terms Frieren is basically a lvl 20+ player/character who really just wants to do another more chill campaign in the same setting with her friends who are beginners.
Despite Frieren being an easy +20-lv war magus, that anime only black hole that her clone cast is easily the Ravenous Void spell. Why? Well, there are a few things to point out about the spell Dark Star & what happened in the fight. When cast area within this Dark Star//sphere is filled with magical darkness & crushing gravitational force. In the anime, the clone's "black hole" is sucking things in & not just a massive A.O.E domain type spell. For the spell Ravenous Void, it ticks all the marks. It pulls things in towards its center within 100ft of itself. It makes the area difficult terrain. Apologies for the rant.
I kinda want to see a build for Linie. That's one of the coolest interpretations of a magical melee fighter I've seen. She basically has the skill of any/every warrior she's ever seen, but not the physical power.
Shed probably be a battle master fighter hexblade warlock multi class her attack power comes from her weapon made of magic which is supplied by hex through the pact weapon and using charisma for melee and the battle master gives her the techniques and fighting styles copyed
On Nystul's Magic Aura, that is absolutely how it can work. In it's description, it says you can disguise one type of creature as another, and make anything appear to be non-magical, so while not outright stated, it is heavily implied that's how it works. Still, it's probably good to ask your DM first if you can do that. But I doubt they'd say no.
Not anymore the old one yes now states two seperate effects one for creatures one for objects objects apear non magical but creatures dont creatures gain themask effect which makes it apear as another creature for the effects of spells
@@demonic_myst4503 That sucks, that they removed functionality like that. They could've just made it possible with an upcast or smth. If this video was about 2024 though, I'd probably not have made this comment, but since this video is about 2014, I decided to put in my two cents.
Well its said frieren has cast protection spells on herself for mind control and restraining magic. Considering her level that could be mind blank. And freedom of movement, even tho thats not on the wizard list, but once again, frierens rules are different and collecting spells is her hobby. I would also give her straight up magic resistance.
Haven't watched Frieren yet, but this video has all but guaranteed I will. Mind you, I've seen the name/images float around YT, which is why my curiosity eventually got the better of me and I came here.
@@Ghorda9 its deffinitly still Zoltraak, they literally say "Zoltraak" when casting particularly powerful/important instances of it. Frieren does it when she nukes Qual, and Fern says it when killing Lügner
To be honest, I don’t think Frieren should be playable, but a rather a legendary NPC that runs under different rules compared to player characters. Her abilities seemingly put her well above level 20, after all, and a campaign or oneshot can still remain balanced simply by having the DM use her in a limited capacity.
According to manga (and anime), Frieren is still comparable to the best human mages. I think, she hasn't reached Flamme's level yet. The only unfair characters in this anime are Serie and Kraft.
Something of note, serie the elf that knows all spells and even has a hoard of them, is matter too Flamme. Who is herself the master of Frieren, so it's likely that there are spells that frieren has that have been lost to all but a few, two of them bring elves that lived during their time. There's also the fact that Flamme was able to casually make craters with her magic so frieren can probably do a lot more than any fair dnd character can do.
I would argue, the barbarian rage ability doesn't just have to come from anger/fury. It can also be a battlefield focus. Of which Stark? However it's spelled, has. He has a battlefield focus, taking huge hits and he can walk it off, resistance. Although, a point against me would be that we don't really see him flex his muscles, gripping his weapon tighter or something similar to signal to me that's what's happening.
I'm honestly curious if you plan on doing a video on an old anime series that's based around, and pretty much is, D&D called Slayers. I legit wanna know how you would build the main cast and see how you try and comprehend and figure out how magic works within that series. This is my challenge to you, dood. Do you accept this challenge?
I think you should also be more specific with his party, you mean the rock-paper-scissors party, the op party, the waifu party, the adventurer momon party, the human party
Ainz is a straight lv20 necromancer wizard with the robes & staff of the arch-magic. Sebas is a champion fighter/arcane trickster. Aura & Mare are a beastmaster ranger & circle of the land druid. Shalltear is a paladin along with Cocytus & Albedo. Demiurge I can see being a bard/rogue.
Intellect Fortress gives resistance to psychic damage and advantage on Int, Wis, and Cha saves, although it does require concentration and only lasts for 1 hour.
To modify these characters to 2024 edition I would: 1) for Stark make him and his whole village be human looking orcs, then Stark's origin is Farmer for the Tought feat and his regular feat would be Great Weapon Master and his fighting styles would be Great Weapon Fighting and Interception 2) for Fern, give up on the metamagic or get the old Metamagic Adept feat, then convince your DM to allow you to get Eldritch Blast with the Magic Initiate feat, then focus on being a War Magic Wizard, her origin is Sage and her free feat for being a human is Alert 3) for Frieren, her just like my Fern but High Elf for the species, again try to get Eldritch Blast with Magic Initiate as part of the Sage origin, then make her Epic Boons be the Boon of Spell Recovery
How about making the Interspecies Reviewers? They are technically adventurers, even if they don't do much fighting in the show. Stunk's a master swordsman, Zel does magic and archery, Kanchal is a thief and Brooz fight barehanded. Crimvael on the other hand floats and has massive resistances but can't fight at all...
kinda funny how you always use persona background music (fantastic taste btw) but we don't have a Phantom Thieves in D&D video, imo that should definetely make it into the next patreon polls at least
For Fern, I'd argue that for actual playing purposes, 3-level dip into Sorcerer isn't worth it considering RAW, it takes 2 out of your max 3 sorcery points to use. Taking Metamagic Adept would be better. As a Human under 2024 rules, she can get the Alert feat regardless of background to represent her being quicker on the draw.
I am suprised you didnt give fern Nystuls Magic Aura or Mind Blank to suppress her prescence (although no mind blank since no 8th level) Edit: Add non-detection to that thought
Imo Rage doesnt have to be "bloodthirsty and chaotic" in case of Stark that we are already streaching him being a "half" orc ( I played some of my barbarians as being in a diffrent place mentally when fighting so stark being focused would suit him really well) I'd build him as a Zelot barbarian bc the "Divine Fury" would match his super strong attack And other traits like "Warrior of the gods" "Relentless Rage" and even "Rage beyond death" would match his masters mantra of "Always getting back up" perfectly
The Fern spell list is almost perfect. Pulse wave seems like an odd choice. Dispel Magic is on there twice. Eldritch Blast requires a level dip into Warlock in the 2024 rules but it’s not a big deal. She should also have invisibility or somehow get Pass without a trace. I also think Fern could be an Evocation wizard since her focus has been on increasing the power of her Laser (Magic missile) as much as possible. It’s how she learned Magic. Evocation let’s her do that.
Why not the wizard class that has arcane ward? It is basicly a sheild that has hp that blocks attacks and gets refreshed if you cast a detain spell school
Sphere of Annihilation is a magical item that can be controlled by powerful casters, and I think there might be an item yo control it, but no spell as far as I'm aware
Anima Beyond Fantasy would be a way better system to make this party as poor old 5th edition not deigned for them at all , or closer to home maybe pathfinder 1st edition with mythic powers would work
Hmm... How about a Fire Emblem party? I'll admit to bias towards the Black Eagles from Three Houses/Three Hopes, so why not a party of Edelgard, Hubert, Ferdinand, Byleth, and Shez? There's a lot going on there, especially with the sheer magic potential that the party as a whole has.
5:11 I really don't see how lvl 10 is high for stark, in what world does any lvl 10 fighter cleave throu a cliff face and one tap ANY dragon while exploding the ground with the impact? The answer is that it's just not a thing. Even Stark is way out of the scope of DnD with how powerful he is. Let alone Frieren.
Well, yes. As a Deutsch speaker myself, it was rather obvious. It's also fairly common in Japanese media overall. One of my favorite examples is the female lead from Grand Dwarf being named 'Frau', which literally just means 'Woman'; that one always cracked me up.
I called it back during the first class mage exam. Fern is the sort of person to just use her ninth level spellslot to upcast magic missile.
Damn, Fern is the mindflayers specifically from the last fight in BG3
@@0spidey1 i hated that fight
