Yeah, it's a chunk of change but the thing is... you get this and you'll have it forever AND using it will be a pleasure not a chore. You'll reach the point when you know that you're ahead and saving money by buying it. Same reason I bought my Dyson. 12 years old, use it twice/week and works exactly like new, picks up amazing amounts each time, never need to buy a filter...now I'm saving a fortune even though it was 3X more $$ than a regular vacuum.

I prefer the cheap approach.🙂 There's no way I can afford 'nice' [i.e. extremely expensive] things, so I buy cheap and use stuff with care.
My £30 vacuum cleaner still works perfectly well - it's nine years old and needs no bags or filters. If it died tomorrow, I could buy ten (10) more brand new ones for the price of one swanky Dyson. Ten vacuums, lasting, say nine years each? That'll do me.
I think the same thing applies to Apple products. Why spend £1,200 on a mobile phone when you can get a decent no-name one for £100? Poor-shaming is big business these days...

Just bought mine on Amazon, looking forward to getting it to "properly" clean my e-bike chain, not cheap but quality does cost and that I am ok with.

Thanks for the insight. I like the way this tool is designed.

I'm still using my (cheap, nasty) no-name ABS black plastic unit, and it seems to be holding up pretty well. It cost me £6.00 from China. You can buy replacement brushes for it (£2.00), but I've not needed any so far. It's 2 years old; I use it once a month on my wet-lubricated road bike chain. It still does a good job when loaded with white spirit.
If it were to fail, a complete replacement would still only cost about a tenth of this (very nice) Park Tool metal machine, so... I think I'll stick with cheap and cheerful for now. 🙂

You didn't mention one important thing I was hoping you'd say. Most who have used the plastic version of the Park chain cleaner say the bristles tend to fall out and get stuck in your chain. I was hoping maybe at least the pro version would not have this problem. In fact at the MUCH higher price it costs, it kind of warrants the brush bristles being epoxied into the holes they're mounted in.

@@thetrooper76 In some ways the basic tool is better at keeping things clean because its transparent plastic lets you see the level of the fluid inside..

I bought this thing because I didn't want another piece of plastic, like my other broken chain cleaner, ending up in a landfill. My guess is I'll use this one for the rest of my life.

Hmm... 🤔 I believe Marie Antoinette was a big fan of only buying expensive, high-quality items. Fine if you can afford such things... I can't, so I make do with cheap stuff.

@@EleanorPeterson I bought some quick-links and an ultrasonic bath ($45). My chain is soooooo clean! And the ultrasonic bath can be used for lots of stuff.
