I saw this when i first started playing 15 years ago. I always thought that one day id listen to this and be able to parse out how to play this. Safe to say that day is not yet upon us.
Everyone is talking about Bobby’s undeniably marvelous drum technique, but the whole package is out of this world. Never heard such intricate music like from Spastic Ink , Blotted Science and Watchtower. They all got in common his mastermind brother.
Within 1 second, somehow all his cymbals are moving. Bobby's cymbal catches are the stuff of legend. PLUS...he is a extremely cool dood. Bobby use to come and hang out with me and my crew at the Hollywood Guitar Center Drum Shop back in 2003 and 2004. Good times!
I ve watched this 3 Times now and i believe he might be the most creative Metal drummer on the planet i mean everything from 3 : 15 on is just mindblowing sick this song has soo many Time signature changes in 4 Minutes i never heard something so sick & musically challenging & enjoyable
my favourite of favourite drum videos on TH-cam , I think I commented on this in 2009, 2010 ...etc etc ... never loses it's magic after all this time 👍👍👍☮☮☮
Lest you forget he also played with Halford, Sebastian Bach, Fates Warning, Riot and others- a multitude of bands whose drum parts are "not as technical" as Dream Theater's. Moral of the story, it's about how musical someone is and not just focusing on technique
@@leeDs718 i agree with u completely. Reason why i mentioned technicality as comparison is becos DT is very much a technical centred band. You can't be their drummer if you are not reaching certain technical level and imo Bobby is better than both Mike in that area.
"I'll think about it" Probably didnt want all the hype being in such a prominent band. But i'd totally think hed be over "Pfft sure whatever" sort of mindset.
Jesus Christ! I could listen to this for a hundred years and not figure out the time signatures used in this song. This guy's phenomenal! He could have easily played for Zappa.
for real. perfect summary. He never plays things the same, everything is always shifting and morphing and changing speeds with different syncopations.... AAAAGGGHHH
He didn't have to think about it. He was smart enough to know that the decision had already been made and DT wanted to make a reality show. Fates was a different story. He became a part of the band, not just a TH-cam Docu-series cast member.
Some of my Favorite Band are from Sweden between 1999 and 2005 i was a HUGE Fan of the Swedish Band Pain of Salvation Best Dark Prog Metal i ever heard and Entropia & One Hour By The Concrete Lake are still some of my Favorite CD s since 2009 i learned about a very unique swedish Band called Freak Kitchen they are my Fav. Band right now i saw the Live with a only 30 poeple crowd it was still a amazing Concert
These young guys who go on and on about Portnoy or Carey....Death Metal guy here, and I appreciate LOTS of drummers and all are awesome in their own right....but this is beyond ridiculous for it's time, and still now!
3:18 - 3:52 hands are hard enough, but that bass drum is on point at filling in the gaps, damn. 2:53 - 3:00. That descending triple triplet thing from snare to lower toms. Dude probably grew up on clydesdale colustrum, if that is good idk. Sounded good tho :P
@ajaxrunner If you check the inlay of the first Gordian Knot album, you can see that Ron Jarzombek did more than just one solo. Can't tell you off the top of my head, but it was definitely more than just the AMAZING solo on Rivers Dancing.
ES INCREIBLE COMO ALGUIEN CON UNA TECNICA NO TAN COMPLEJA ...PUEDA TOCAR PATRONES Y DINAMICAS DE ESA MANERA ...ESO SE LLAMA OPTIMIZAR TUS AVILIDADES ...AL CIEN !!! ..GRANDE ..JARZOMBEK.!!!
Not 1 DISlike... Ahhaaha.. Because he is savantish. The VERY best IMHO. Halford - Fates Warning - RIOT - Juggernaut - Spastic Ink AND he was recently added as George Straits drummer. A hard working, amazing man.
@martyr2005 Ron Jarzombek only did a guess Solo on Gardian Knot Album sir, Ron Played on spastic inc/ink album and Blotted Science and also on Watchtower and did 2 solos albums :)
@sproaty ya, it's actually a somewhat redacted version of the song ' a quick affix ' which came as a bonus track on the japanese release of ink compatible. and wow, i just realize how badly i outed myself as quite possibly the worlds biggest nerd. at least i should be safe here. o and fwiw, check out the peppered cancer guitar play along by zack ordway in the recommended vids on the right. pretty damn amazing.

dont forget for many playing open handed they are doing it because its personally easier for them, I don't know if he is left handed or maybe just ambidextrous
@@krusher74 he's right handed & completely self taught. He moved to open handed during the recording of Riot's "privilege of power" recording session, when he realized that he can play patterns better he was struggling with when playing the normal way.
It's kind of amazing to see that although he's pounding out some really intense stuff here he also appears to be "calm at his center". For lack of any better words to describe that. I've been musically mesmerized by both Bobby and his brother Ron's playing from the moment I first heard them.
Hey, what's Virgil Donati been up to? I mean I never heard of this cat before today and I have been bangin drumz for half my life or more. I would love to see them go head to head, foot to foot...

Agreed , I re visit this video many times .... for a long time now
I also revisit regularly.
Haha yep
Been coming back to this for over 6 years. Still blows my mind

😂😂😂
Those 13 thumbs down are from other pro drummers wishing they could play this song! Go Bobby!!
It's not just the way he plays, is the music he makes with his brother, both of them are geniuses.
Spastic Ink
Everyone is talking about Bobby’s undeniably marvelous drum technique, but the whole package is out of this world. Never heard such intricate music like from Spastic Ink , Blotted Science and Watchtower. They all got in common his mastermind brother.
I’ve been watching this for over a decade and it never fails to inspire me
Still so fresh, blew me away watching Bobby as a teen and everytime since.
Sickness level.....EBOLA! ! INCREDIBLE!
Now Corona lol.
Natty Fatty lol.
Those cymbals at the back are too fucking badass
His level of proficiency is Superhuman. So damn musical too. Everything this man plays is pure gold.
1:17 that cymbal hit is so fucking sick
What I love about Bobby is that the harder the tracker is, the calmer he looks.
this STILL never gets old!!
Jarzombeks!
Bobby played on my country record back in 2010. One of the most common comments we got on that record was how awesome the drums were.
Good times!
I've got this DVD sitting on my shelf. Amazing drumming.
Before Alex Rudinger there was Bobby Jarzombek......!
Still a legendary video

this song has soo many Time signature changes in 4 Minutes i never heard something so sick

Blows my mind every time. Bobby is unbelievably unique!
Drumming skill levels:
3. Asian
2. God
1. Bobby Jarzombek
I am not asian, nor am I Bobby, therefore I must be God!

March, 2020. Still surreal...
Jan, 2022. Still surreal
January, 2024. Still surreal...
I could watch his open-handed playing all day long and not once get bored. It's incredible and very inspiring.
This guy technicality level is way above portnoy and mangini... He is overqualified for Dream theater
I think they're all awesome in their own way

Speechless watching this video, this dude is too fun to watch.
Frank Zappa would have loved him. The best I've ever heard.
Damn, makes me sad Zappa aint here to listen.
3:10 what a transition into the ride. this isn't normal
"This isn't normal"
That should be the description for every Bobby Jarzombek video
Normal: 2:34 - 2:38
Not normal: Rest of all
Bobby was the only audition invite when Dream Theater called who said, "Let me think about it."
Then Jim Matheos called and Bobby's like "I'm in."
if I was Bobby Jarzombek and some "band" called me to invite me to an "audition" I d turn them down too.

@@jsotelo8918 Exactly. That series made drummers like Donati and Lang look like noobs - they kept footage that showed them struggling.

This is like the craziest and most accurate drummer in history! AMAZING!
3:34 Shoes weren't worn due to intense energy it was releasing from Bobby.

Bobby et Ron ensemble !
--> du pur Jarzombek ;)
Queria Bobby Jarzombek no Dream Theater..seria incrível.
Estás louco apanha juízo.
+asr 01 louco por que? é um ótimo baterista..e se encaixaria perfeitamente no grupo. lembrando que é somente a minha opinião!
+Richard Rodrigues pois, por isso mesmo por ser muito bom.
