  • Spider crabs in Portphillip Bay Melbourne can be seen moving about in large groups for at least the first half of the year. It appears that the current and tidal changes plays a big part in the direction of travel. I have observed them build mounds as the current subsides and stops. Once the current begins again they will travel into it for a short while then turn back and travel with it as it strengthens. Anyway this is my first attempt to try and make sense of their movements. Interestingly enough as soon as I think I understand whats going on, along comes a scenario to contradict my thinking. Back ground music from U tune free music 'Time lapsed tides ' by Asher Fulero
