I totally buy that one can survive a stab from a light saber as long as it doesn't hit vital organs. Sabine and Reva were not hit through the heart like Qui-Gon or the Captain in this episode. Light Saber wounds cauterize instantly because of the intense heat. Easily survivable. Even the Grand Inquisitor in Kenobi. True Story: A friend of mine survived some horrific stab wounds that actually hit vital organs. He's a walking miracle. The doctors don't know how he survived. Maul survived due to retcon because many people wanted this character back. So I guess the story is his legs were cut off at the hips and not at the torso as it originally appeared.
As a first-timer to anything Rebels, this was a nice start. I'm enjoying the look of the characters, I like seeing Ahsoka in action, I like the tone of the show and I'm digging the music. The story is going to be an intriguing one, for sure. I'm really interested in seeing how this series, possibly, sets up the Dave Filoni Mandoverse movie. Also, Godspeed, Ray Stevenson. May the Force be with him and his family.
Pretty solid kick off for this series. The fact that Clancy Brown returned to play another character(he played Burg in Mando s1) was pretty awesome. I'm curious about the idenitity of the masked/armored inquisitor, there has to be a reason he's quiet and masked. I literally called it a Treasure Planet style map when I first saw it LMAO! I don't believe Baylan Skoll's apprentice, Shin Hati(Skoll and Hati, nice reference to Norse mythology there), was trained as a Jedi, she doesn't appear old enough to have been. Unless she's older than she looks, which is like 19-20, then she would have been born around tenish years after the birth of the Empire.
It was truly an excellent Series Premiere. You didn't need to fear for how this would turn out. Dave wouldn't let Us down. I think this series, as a whole, will end up being an absolute grand slam. Sabine Wren is one of the coolest Star Wars characters...period. I'd love to know if she's encountered Jedi Master Luke and Jedi Leia Skywalker, over the last 7 years since ROTJ? To get a discussion, let alone a lightsaber sequence, with them, would be monumental. I'd imagine, on some levels, Leia and Sabine would be kindred spirits.
Hera and Ashoka are on the ship Home 1 same as admiral Akbar in the original trilogy and in the same command room from return of the Jedi jus a interesting factoid I picked up from this first episode
@@evilgerman1761 You have just proven you do not even watch the shows. What about Andor, Mandalorian, Obi Wan and the Book of Boba Fett, last four Star Wars series?
@@arctic_haze Mandalorian is the Bo Katan show. Obi Wan was the Leia and the stupid chick with a darth vader tick show. Asoka is Powerwomen in space. BobaFett was shit, but ok Andor is fantastic.

allow me to leave this rather large message here on your channel rather than on your breakdown video so as to potentially avoid spoilers for matt who hasn't seen rebels. this is in regards to Sabine acting like a rebelous ass and skipping the ceremony. I can understand why matt didn't understand it not having seen rebels. but given that you didn't at least say anything at all, i'm guessing the connotations of everything going on may have slipped passed your radar since it seems on the surface just like Sabine being rebellious for rebellion sakes and to try to tell you who she is really fast like matt was trying to imply. and he isn't wrong per se, but there is far more going on under the surface that is initially apparent and anyone who hasn't seen rebels clearly has no way to understand the depths of it. all that said here goes: the reason she didn't attend the celebration is actually answered in Ryder's first sentence. "On THIS DAY several years ago, the empire was defeated thanks to the heroic efforts of Commander Ezra Bridger, who SACRIFICED HIMSELF to liberate our world". Ie this is the 10th (or possibly 11th) year anniversary of the day Ezra sacrificed himself. Which means a few days before this is the 10th/11th year anniversary of Kanan's death. A quick recap Sabine was flying the ship that carried Hera and Ezra when Kanan sacrificed himself. Then days later Sabine covered for Ezra so that he could sneak out to do his plan which she only later realized including Sacrificing himself. This entire week for her has literally been hell for her. She lost a psuedo father and a brother/(boyfriend if your a shipper) and there is no doubt in my mind she blames herself for both of those loses. But for Ryder and the rest of lothal this is the day they were freed from the empire they want to be happy they want to celebrate. Sabine is not in any kind of headspace to celebrate the liberation of lothal for her it means the loss of her friends. She almost certainly tried to communicate that to Ryder but he likely didn't want to hear it. It's the 10 year anniversary and she is literally their resident hero. He wants her to be there and she really really doesn't. Heck they are literally making something she drew into a planetary monument she should be thrilled but she isn't because it's too closely tried to death and loss for her to be celebratory. We might even theorize further when Hera brings up the topic of Thrawn Hera's first reaction is it's not possible he's dead. it seems she may have fallen into the belief that both He and Ezra have died given that it's been at least 10 years and they still haven't had a single trace of either of them. Obviously, thanks to Xiono, we know that she hasn't given up searching, but it seems that she may have given up the idea of finding him alive. This process may also be starting to get to Sabine. letting go of the hope of finding the person you care for alive after so long a time apart. it is certainly a natural reaction to those kinds of situations in real life. over time people lose hope of seeing their love ones again. There is certainly no proof that Sabine herself may be starting to feel this way. We know that she did at least show up, so perhaps she tried to work through her feelings and be the person the people of lothal wanted her to be. but when you're in mourning especially over 2 people, its hard to put on a fake smile for people when you are hurting inside. (i believe it was Kanan who also found Sabine and convinced her to join the Ghost crew) So she left, went home, fed her cat, replayed Ezra's last message and fell asleep. Sabine not being there for the Celebration isn't Sabine being Rebellious is her being Depressed and being in mourning. I completely understand why someone who hasn't seen rebels might look at her actions and think that she's just trying to be rebelous and edgy. but that isn't what is happening at all. Lets fast foward to the next day when Ahsoka shows up. (and that may be another emotional thorn in her side that she is dealing with as well, along with the fall of Madalore due to a revolt that she helped incite) but there is clear tension between them. Sabine hasn't seen Ahsoka in years, not since Ahsoka walked away from her. so add that on top of the mix. when she arrive she first speaks with Ryder who chides her for missing the ceramony and again i can understand why people would think she's just being a rebelous jerk, but look at what happens when he says everyone was there. there is an emotional shift and she replies with "not everyone." Before She's allowed to go down an emotional rabbit hole Huyang quickly diverts her attention and greets her. despite his ragging on her, she genuinely seems to like him. but that just leads straight into the very obvious awkwardness of Ahsoka and Sabine ignoring each other causing Huyang to excuse himself, followed by ryder who knows enough about their fractured relationship to tell her that she will want listen to what she has say. as soon as he leave the closed captions say that wistful music starts playing and we are treated to about 20 seconds of two people not talking to each other. now the reason i spent so much time delving into the Ahsoka/Sabine relationship there is because i'm pointing there is THICK emotional tension here at this moment. but all of that goes out the window the moment Ahsoka says "i think i know how to find Ezra." just listen to the music before and after the line. the music before is strong and depressing but afterwards it becomes lighter and hopeful. This is an immediate emotional 180 on her part. whatever happened in their past, in this moment she set it aside because it meant she had the chance to bring Ezra back. So there is SO MUCH going on with her at this moment. if the show was set a month before or month after when it did, we probably would have seen the Sabine who could have attended the ceramony and at least force herself to get through it. but the Ceremony is LITERALLY on the anniversary of the day Ezra was taken and given everything else going on in Sabine's life having to pretend to be happy for a bunch of people while mourning the lives of two family memmbers was just too much for her in that moment. So she dealt with her feelings in the most Mandalorian way possible. which just happens to to appear to most people like she's being a rebellious ass. the truth though is far from the truth.
