      Idk why I can't add a comment to the comment section except for in replies.. But I watched a really good video about all this and apparently Blake and the other lead actor(also the producer) were promoting 2 totally different cuts of the movie.. They disagreed A LOT about the direction of the movie. Blake produced and her cut was more a rom com type style, and his was more what the book is about, and a little more dark.. they did test views with it and his ended up winning and was chosen to be the one shown in theraters, but Blake went into these promo interviews basically promoting her version of it.. So that's why she was a bit more peppy about it I guess..
      I cant remember who posted the video I watched but they had a ton of great info about the behind the scenes of what went on with this movie.

    So Justin Baldoni allegedly asked his trainer how much Blake weighed because he has a history of back problems in addition to needing to be able to lift her for a scene.
    Maybe, as a fat person, my standards for "fat shaming" are a little steep, but if someone were to lift *me* in the air, I'd want them to know what they're in for.

    • @storageheater
      @storageheater 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +95

      Even if she was totally justified, her reaction was an absolute dog's dinner. I would just go "oooh i hate it being described like that, no thankyou." Get it out of your system, make it clear what's annoyed you, then you don't have to be the one simmering and the audience isn't mystified and speculating, and if the interviewer pushes it then the narrative quickly makes them the bad guy. I'm pretty sure any interviewer could handle it, certainly more easily than the slow miserable spitefest that happened instead.

    • @elizabethshuster218
      @elizabethshuster218 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +71

      The interviewer is from Norway if I remember heating correctly, so English isn't her first language. She may have used the word "bump" to describe a pregnant belly because she hadn't heard another term before, or that's how her language describes it as well. Just because Blake was offended, doesn't give her and the other actress a right to be so blatantly rude and dismissive of the interviewer. It was made extremely awkward when Blake could have handledbit more professionally.

      @@janettewong9900 Yeah, it seemed like Parker initially sensed the tension and tried to lighten it with a joke. She also initially tried to answer the interviewer's questions sincerely, but was too easily redirected when Blake insisted on doubling down against the interviewer - insinuating her questions were offensive, or that the interviewer was over-reaching as if they were friends (?). I've seen how good people go against their own character in this kind of dynamic (bully triangulates bystander and bystander complies), usually because of insecurity or fear of reprisal. I don't know what the case was for Parker, but she didn't seem up to the task of going against Blake.
      Anna Kendrick, on the other hand, stand back! She is actually funny and smart, and was not shy about holding her own with Blake. It made me smile. Anna also did a film about domestic abuse, which tackled the psychological and isolation tactics that are far more pervasive, always precede physical violence, and psychologists say can be more harmful in the long run for victims' self-worth. Anna promoted the film (Alice, Darling) far more thoughtfully as well, and lent a great deal of insight to the production based on her own real life experience with abuse. The contrast is stunning.

    My Mom is a domestic abuse survivor. When her first husband pushed her down the stairs, breaking a couple of body parts, she decided to leave him. An incredibly dangerous decision because he found her in a parking lot and tried to strangle her. A group of joggers going by stepped in to stop him and actually spoke as witnesses for a restraining order.
    Blake's promo made the movie sound like a fun rom com. I almost brought my mom to see a movie that at least would have brought up a lot of bad memories. At worst, I don't want to think about it.

As far as how she treated that interviewer, it was 100% mean girls and not okay. The woman was congratulating her in a very well known way. Even if Blake didn't like it, there was no reason to be mean to her for the rest of the interview. It would have been one thing if she said something about her weight or being fat or something. This was not the case. And I have been pregnant, at no point did my hormones make me "mean girl" someone. This wasn't even one comment or look from Blake, it was an entire passive aggressive hateful interview. I'm glad she's being called out, everyone with bad behavior should be. Just FYI - I’m a victim of over 11 years of brutal domestic violence and the damage to my body physically and emotionally is horrendous - not to even mention the damage to my two children. So for me, Blake’s flippant attitude really triggered me. Believe me, the last thing a victim of abuse needs is another mean girls attitude in their life. I can not watch the film as it will be too triggering and unbearable for me, especially after watching Blake be so blaze about the issue. Justin Baldoni has been brilliant and his efforts highlighted the hell that victims of DA endure (including life long PTSD) but Blake just acted as though the topic of DA isn’t important and the topic would be a fun night out with the girls!! That made me sick! For those who don’t know - it’s along the lines of watching a film about Nazi concentration camps then throwing a fun theme party and starvation diet plan launch at the premier!

Guns held to my head is nowhere near the atrocity of the holocaust! What is wrong with you? Certified Disability Rehabilitation Couselor here. Baldoni needed the weight information to determine if the stunt was plausible independently or if he needed to utilize an accommodation. This is logical for most grown adults of a certain age, but even more cruicial considering his history of back issues. It's a basic safety concern. Nothing we've seen of his character has indicated he would have used this information maliciously against Lively. Although there is a lot of nuance in the details of the circumstance that would influence ant legal determination, there is a plausibility that the consequences of her reaction could potentially count as disability discrimination.

    As a currently pregnant woman (for the second time), I think there was no way to take the "little bump" comment as offensive. Given that the pregnancy had already been announced and she was wearing something tight that clearly showed off her bump, it could've even been considered bad taste NOT to mention it. Since the bump was indeed quite small for seven months (that's what I've read was the age) it would've been easy to wear something lose and completely hide it. If someone who is pregnant decides to wear something tight is usually because they want people to notice the bump.
    There was another pregnant woman that I met recently at a wedding and she was also wearing something tight but her bump was little enough that it could've been just her belly, and she was annoyed that nobody was telling her anything about it! People weren't sure if she was pregnant or had just gained weight and she was offended that they thought her body would just look like that without a baby inside!!
    So I think it was completely normal for the journalists to mention the bump itself, not just "the pregnancy" and she even called it LITTLE which, you know, is the opposite of calling someone fat, and it was true as well, because her bump actually looks quite little for 7 months!!
    It IS weird and opportunistic that she decides to post the ideo and talk so much about this now, though, especially given the fact that she seems to have posted something in defence o Johnny Depp before 😮

Also, profiting off of other women's suffering doesn't exactly give me humanitarian vibes, nor does the "joke" that she would location share with survivors who may want to personally thank her for her participation in that film. If I hadn't already known that the book was a 🗑️ romanticization of DV, and all I saw was Blake's flippant promotion I likely would've gone to see it thinking it's a rom com and ended up backsliding into a PTSD nightmare. There are real life consequences for a lot of people and it's not okay to just act like it's a regular movie about a regular romance. On top of that, DV survivors have been speaking out against Colleen Hoover for years for capitalizing on the romanticization of inappropriate themes like DV while never taking steps to raise awareness or support the organizations that work to save our lives... Blake is doing the same thing with her alcohol brand that CoHo did with her nail polish and coloring book and it's not okay. She deserves every bit of this cancellation and then some.

    I think Baldoni needed that PR team because Blake was saying quite a bit of very negative stuff about him, ie that a kiss lingered too long and made her very uncomfortable even though she had assigned herself as the "intimacy coordinator" ie it was her job to make sure that didn't happen. And the rest of her buddies unfriended him on instagram, presumably at her direction. She mean girled the guy, in other words. A LOT.
    And then to try boosting sales for her alcohol line by naming the drinks after the characters in the movie was in very poor taste. Mentioning her hair care line incessantly. Making the movie sound like a fun romcom which triggered the hell out of a lot of women once they were in the theater and realized it was actually about DV.

    The bigger controversy is that this whole film was made because Justin optioned it years ago way back when Colleen wasn’t even as famous as she is now.
    Blake came in and (all of this allegedly) rewrote the script and then made her own producers cut with Ryan and the Deadpool team. The directors cut and producers cut were played for audiences. His scored better, but Colleen chose the power couples cut instead (which is the one played in theaters).
    Then the whole cast distanced themself from Justin just a few months before the movie premiered and then a bunch of headlines about Justin started surfacing that were honestly ridiculous. Then he hired the PR firm. He went on to promote the film beautifully while she promoted it like a romcom. So much so that people went to see the movie not realizing it was about it domestic violence.
    Now she’s in hot water for a string of bad behavior because Justin is beloved and she essentially stole his project and used her power and influence to mean girl her way through. (All allegedly.)

      Actually, Blake remained far closer to the book of Colleen than Justin. So it's only to be expected that Colleen went for Blakes take on the matter and not the 'holier than thou' take from Justin. Both Colleen and Blake wanted to promote a full picture with all its diffent aspects of DV, not just the one-dimensional 'damsel in distress' narrative Justin was simping for. It's actually quite patriarchical how Justin lectures Blake and Colleen how (female) victims of DV should feel and behave.

Had she shared it prior, I really do think it would have disappeared or even had her insulted and bullied and hurt her career.
      The hair care and alcohol promotion was bad enough, but the past behavior and the addition of the fact she had her husband rewrite a scene without the screenwriter's knowledge (potentially during the strike) coupled with getting married at a plantation puts it all together into what you described: an overwhelming pattern. This really echos the Flaa interview during the "ask her more" phase.
      I don' know if there is a hashtag for this one but we are now in the phase where celebrities are resenting being considered objects that the public should have unqualified access to. In that line it would be inappropriate to go to celebrities with your trauma. It's probably always a bad idea to go to celebrities with your trauma regardless of the era.
      That's the joke she is reacting to that French doesn't get, but the interviewer immediately understands goes along with. She then goes on to give an acceptably serious answer but that part of the interview is universally cut out. Which is probably why there aren't a rash of interviews with Jake Hamilton about how terrible Blake Lively are with Flaa.

    I think that first interviewer had an interesting question. People will definitely connect with such a serious issue, and will probably want to share how the film affected them if they meet the star of that film one day. She could have said she would empathize and pivot to talking about how this is an important issue that affects more people than we realize. Anything other than an attitude of “oh, you want to speak to me? I guess you should just show up at my house and put a location tracker on me!”
    And that poor fashion journalist getting “would you ask MEN about clothes?!” She very reasonably responded “I would” because it’s a period piece with fashion costume design at the forefront. Blake Lively’s behavior was absolutely bonkers.

    • @Haylla2008
      @Haylla2008 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      The question was framed in a way to make it seem like Blake *should* have something to say or advice to give when, in reality, these people should be talking to a therapist. Blake's response was part "ribbing" the interviewer for framing the question how he did (or even asking it) and part joke about how a para-social relationship would form from her even giving a response.
      If I'm not mistaken, how actresses are the only (or primary) ones asked about their clothes was (still is?) a talking point for 3rd wave feminists so I think that's where she was coming from there. Perhaps the thought just slipped out before she thought about whether it made sense? She does seem like someone whose mouth is just a little faster than her brain.

      @@Haylla2008 I don’t think she was asked that question to give advice. It is to see how she has connected with her role as a DV survivor in the movie and how is she going to use the platform and role that she was given because it sheds light on serious topics that many people may relate with and may have experienced.
      Since it was a serious topic of abuse and DV that the movie explored, she should have shown respect for the message of the movie and also the audience that related to it. And her jokes didn’t fly because it was not funny. Just my thoughts.

      So she can't just imagine what they would say?
      I don't go near bears due to my safety, but if someone asked me "What would you say if you saw a bear and it could talk?" I'd have waaaaay too many questions for the poor bear. Or, to be more realistic, "What bear would you want to pet?" I'd say a black bear or a panda.
      The question doesn't make me go out and actually do it

    • @Lenci_the_Nugget

      I think the question would have thrown me off for a different reason, which is that like... How is anyone supposed to express what a movie with such a heavy topic means to them in the space of like 30 seconds? That's the part that I didn't know how to answer. He's asking her to like... Tell fans exactly how to express their own stories. Tbh I probably would have rambled about something along the lines of, "I would never want to prescribe any particular way for someone else to tell their own story, I'd just hope they would leave the conversation with the sense that their story matters."
      I liked where the question could have gone, which could have been more like, "What message would you hope to get across for the viewers who may deeply relate to your character's experience in the film?"

    When I escaped a DV situation and was still reeling from the trauma and its effects, I read a book. That book deeply touched me and inspired me to take my first steps out of my hole of misery. I wrote a letter to the author to thank her and acknowledge her role in my recovery. I might be wrong, but it's a two way street. I will respect and look forward to all her works in the future and draw inspiration from her. And the author/artist/actor, would be proud of her own work and also get that feeling of accomplishment of creating an art that can resonate and help others. As a victim of violence( any kind), people try to make sense of what they went through. Please don't dismiss them and only take pleasure in your ego massage only. Take some pride in your work that can help others. Please, just show some damn empathy!!!

    It's completely disingenuous to frame Justin Baldoni trying to keep the "stunts" or whatever safe as body shaming. He had a previous back injury and asked the trainer to make sure he wouldn't be putting himself at risk for reactivating that injury - which could also lead to harm coming to Blake, like if they were to both fall. It had absolutely nothing to do with shaming or policing her body and everything to do with being responsible and thoughtful.
