    2 years ago thanks to your tear down and review i purchased this
    model... excellent product..... i actually ended up buying one for my
    son as well, he instantly stuck in his draw for 6 months and it still
    had plenty of charge in it to charge his phone..funny thing is he called
    me last night asking where i got it, so he is looking to get one for
    someone i guess..Thanks again ...Merry Xmas to you...

    Nice video. I would love to see measures from the board while charging it.

    I have bought several of these as "non-functional" just to salvage the cells. They are high quality 18650's. Haven't had any of the cells that didn't charge to within 5% +/- specs.

    I have only seen one power bank mention that the 16,750 mA. in the batteries are at a nominal 3.7 Voltage. But when converted to 5.1 volt it is around 12,152 mA.
    None of them talk about you lose an extra 8-10% in heat,
    Even with a very efficient 90% conversion so now we are down to about 10,937 mA. Of actual capacity. But it still gets worse! We can only drain the battery down to around 75% - 80% of its actual stated capacity because of the low voltage damage to the battery. Now we only get around 8,203mA - 8,750 mA. That we can count on as a backup.
    Even yet, with all that being said. I think they are great batteries and it is a great technology but Just like everyone else, I can't wait for the new technology to improve them!

    The second you showed the 18650 cells i liked it, as you said a safer unit :-).
    Ahh the old Micronta 22-195, not high spec but quite usable, using a chip that was very similar to modern autorange single chip multimeters.
    Quite advanced for it's era :-)
    Looks like it's seen a lot of action lol :-D

      Yes that meter was on my bench at the shop for many years. Doesn't like complex waveforms though. Measure the video output transistors on a working set to check the voltage and it has a heart attack.

      I was expecting to see Li-Po cells in it, so I was pleasantly surprised too.

    Omg time goes by i was just looking around youtube and came across your review again. I still have and use this Power Bank you put me on to.....i am amazed how long it holds charge .Very solid performing device

      Still working. Use it all the time.

    Good video, I am always leary about these charging devices, nice to know some of them are still fairly well made. P.S. Screw the haters on the previous video.

      This one looks to be well built with good protection.

    Hey man, recently my powerbank (same model as in your video) fell into water. Sometimes randomly all lights are blinking, i cant charge it up anymore and if i press flashlight its only lasting for some seconds and not as bright as it should be normal.
    I also opened the power bank but i cant spot anything wrong. do you know what could be damaged?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anything could be wrong. It fell into water. Water conducts electricity and those batteries have a ton of energy. Any part in the board could be damaged.

    To have the socket live all the time will consume some power, but it is a good thing. So items that you power off USB have such a low draw the power bank may not turn on or it will turn off after pushing the button to power it. So that is a nice feature. The temp probe is also a very good protection item, as many of these don't have that feature. This is a nice pack.

    Do you think these powerbank can be dangerous?
    Battery are connected in parallel,not single separate slots,
    So if batteries are not balanced or one cell discharge or overcharge faster than others it's a risk

  • @BrianTokyo
    @BrianTokyo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the same board, the cells seem good but no power is reaching the led or the USB ports at all, as well as not taking in power from a charger.

  • @BlankBrain
    @BlankBrain 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only thing I'd like to see is separate battery management. The design assumption is that all batteries are identical and will remain identical through their life.

    That was a thorough tear down. I appreciate you doin' it. Do you think all RavPower banks use the LG cells?

    Wish I could get some parts for it.. batteries charge but not devices connected broke within 18 months.

    I have had one of these for several years. I can attest to their quality and reliability. It's always in my laptop bag when I travel. Very nice product....

    LOL ... who was the "Keep your hands off" meant for on your old AmMeter? Good show, thanks!

    • @klcbsoft
      @klcbsoft 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha, indeed! Now that I see it on a large screen it does look like "paws". That can only mean one thing: the AmMeter is not CAT-certified :)

      That was directed to my co-workers at the shop that were always stealing my meter on the weekends when the service dept was closed. I would have to hunt down my meter every Monday morning. They were using it to test batteries or something.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No my co-workers at the shop. This was MY meter, not the shops meter. The boss got upset with me when I dropped his fluke once and told me to get my own meter so I bought this cheap one. Then thee rest of the guys started using it, which pissed me off.

    Built with 18650's. I build battery packs very much like this and sell them.

    Nope the cell is 4.2 volt, it also charge at 4.2 volt. 3.7 volt, is the low cutout limit.

    • @paimond223
      @paimond223 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not quite. For these LG 18650 cells, the max voltage of these is 4.2v (that's common for all 18650s). Nominal voltage is 3.7v. Cutoff (low) voltage is at 2.5v (for these cells)

      This unit charges my BlackBerry PRIV very quickly. I plug it into the ravpower and I have an 80% charge in about 30 minutes, full charge in 45. On the ac charger it takes 3 hours to fully charge and I am using the lower amperage port. Ravpower sent me their smaller battery and an anker brand to test and it also is very good. My daughter stole that one and I use this bigger unit to recharge whenever I forget to charge and need a fast boost quickly.

    very sophisticated. I have one with one battery in it. Rarely use it because it's for women that forget to charge their silly phones, lol.

      What is even funnier is women that forget to charge their Teslas.
      Or they just could be broken down on the side of the highway!
