Well done on some good fishing. It's very true that you can't complain about catching hard fighting fish. That 3 way lure rig is the basis of much of the fishing in the UK over wrecks and reef.
I got a new toy that might work very well on your boat actually. I got an Insta360 One X2 camera for my kayak, and watching the videos with you and your brother, I think it would work very well if you mounted it to your center console next to your Humminbird. You could get yourself and your brother fishing at the same time with one camera, and the quality is similar to the go pro.
Awesome question. It takes experience, but I'd describe a fish hit as a clean tap, whereas bottom is something other than that. On this video, those taps that I set on do show up if you watch in 4K.
John, love the videos. I also run a ~17’ center console, how do you pick your days to fish the gut? Are there certain wind speeds, directions or wave heights you’re looking for/looking to avoid? You seem to keep finding the calmest days
do you think something else would work besides bucktail? I was thinking riggin the jerk bait the same way, the problem I do not go out often, cause I fish party boats(((((
That is not a slow pitch rod. It's a rod I designed a few years back for Dark Matter for fluke jigging. It is very popular for fluke jigging and blackfish, but has accidentally turned out to be a great bass rod. There's a link in the video description if you want to check out the specs.
hey u r back ! love to see your footage. the way u narrate live your experience makes us feel like we r with u nearby ,... from uptown manhattan in the middle of nyc good video which boat are u using? very curious? thans for being very informative n specific on the stuff n gears u r using.... very interesting....
yup....bought a nice bright green spoon, first time down, lost it to a blue lol..I like the rear camera angle, gives a good shot of a nice little fight bringing it up.after each reel movement I see your pinching the line down, is that mostly for feel?.great video sir!!
Why are your line guides off center??? All my rods the eyelets are in a straight even row out my rod, they don't go off to the left and part ways around your rod???
Look up "acid wrapped" or spiral wrapped. Many of the better jigging rods are made this way because by allowing the guides to move the line from the top to the bottom of the rod it greatly reduces torque and results in a much more comfortable rod, especially with a fish on.
Do you run into any white sharks out there John? I've been reading that they are numerous around Cape Cod nowadays. Didn't know if they were common around long island now.
you are my hero fisherman
Thanks John for the great tips!
thank you john

Good job mr skinner soo much to lern from you!!!
Enjoy your fishing videos Mr. Skinner and the knowledge you impart.
As I was mentioning 3 weeks ago lost 2 $25 flutter spoons to the gator bluefish Shinecock Bay , now wire leaders. I know you don't like them John.....

Fished the same spot with the same results, glad I'm not alone...lol. Thanks.
John, How do you discern the sinker hitting bottom from a fish bite in that depth?
Awesome question. It takes experience, but I'd describe a fish hit as a clean tap, whereas bottom is something other than that. On this video, those taps that I set on do show up if you watch in 4K.
Sooo I have a cnc machine and some aluminum can’t I just cut them out and put a hook on the End
John I know I don't see this in the list but those cannonball sinkers are not easy to find in most bait shops. Have to order them online.
Right. I have the molds.
How about a video how you go about planning what to bring for each trip out. Thanks again. Love the videos
Another impressive fishing trip!
Good day on the water!
what model go pro are you using
11 black.
Do you worry about marking fish in the sonar, or are you more focused on terrain/depth?
How big are those blues?
10-15+

I’ve learned it’s always the worst when the tide and wind are moving against each other always kicks the swell up
Hey John, what would you say would be the minimum current speed in order for the 3 way rig to be most effective? Thanks!
Great question. Around 1.5 MPH.
At 30.00 a pop. Losing flutter spoons can get pretty expensive
No chit mikey! There's zero justification for the price except our willingness to pay it.
That swinging and floppy weight will knock your lights out if your not careful 😮
I saw that and thought the same thing..8 oz off the noggin would hurt a bit..
Those Blues make my Gulf Coast Surf Blue look like a Guppy.....

What size reel are you using on the spinning rod?...
2500
This way of fishing is only done when you drifting or can you do it anchored?
Drifting only.
So I see you using what looks like a slow pitch rod. Do feel this is better than a conventional rod?

@@JohnSkinnerFishing thank you. Love you content.
Great video again.. Where will you be getting bucktails now that S&S is closed?.
My basement.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing you must have plenty of lead.
Do you think there’s price gouging going on with all these different spoon manufacturers?
No. I think it costs money to make a well-balanced spoon of quality components.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Made in China for .50 cents

thans for being very informative n specific on the stuff n gears u r using....
very interesting....
1986 Grumman 5.0 Meter Boat
before an outing do u check the weather ?
u seem to go whenever the water is calm ...
I cherry pick my days carefully, especially for this place. Other than the Seadoo Fishpro, I've been the smallest boat out there every time.

Thanks. That line pinching is some kind of ingrained habit. I don't even notice it except when I watch video.
Can u use the 3way rig for flukes ??
Yes. Yes, you can. In early spring we like to leave line long w a clean hook and just a killie minnow.
how far did u go from the shore ?
r u inshore, in the bay or where did u go?
I have land < a mile away on two sides.

Never.
I heard S&S went out of business this morning. That true?
About two weeks ago
There was a death in the family business.
It upsets me to see you holding your rod under the wrong arm
'there goes another $15 spoon to the bluefish'
$15 is a bargain.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing More like $20
Looks a little chilly for 3 weeks into June. Is global warming on a reversing trend?
Coldest June I can ever recall here!
