    As a pick player, Pure Blues are my go-to strings now. They provide all of the additional sonic information that you get from rounds, but have a more "vintage" tones. Brighter than flats, but still not as trebly as the other rounds.

    Fat Beams are my strings, for quite some years now. Either those, or TI Jazz Flats.
    Nice video, good structure and the all-important side by side comparison at the end was really helpful

    Great comparison video. My concern is mainly how they will sound after two weeks of playing. The Hi-Beams sound amazing picked.

      Still sound rather bright after 2 months

    Sounds like Fat Beams have the fullest sound without being flatwounds. Love their tone! Pure Blues sounds like the best of everything!

    What, no DR Sunbeams? Those are my strings of choice, but would love to hear how they compare to the other DR strings. Thanks for the comparison.

      I love those especially on basses that tend to be too bright or abrasive sounding. Sunbeams mellow those out nicely after they break in properly.

      Sunbeams are usually my "go to" strings if using round wound bass strings. I am going try DR Pure Blue strings and see what happens. I have Sunbeams to really do well on active basses as they don't have a ragged top end. They are very easy on your fingers also.

    I currently have fat beams on my p-bass I love them. May have to try the pure blues next since they sound so versatile and well rounded and I’m primarily a finger player. Hi beams just sound too trebly for my taste. Love the quality of DR.

    I have always liked high beams and low riders for my 5 strings.

    Been using Hi Beams for a couple of years. Don't see myself changing brands for a while.

    Hey Paul, I have a 1978 Fender P I just put a set of Dogal flat wounds on it but I want to get more punch and I’m really liking the fat beams what would be better on the 78 the fat beams or the highbeams

      Hi Beams more attack Fat Beams more bottom depends on you, I'd get them both and see what works best

      @@PaulDelBelloYT by the way I tried an experiment. I have a Steve Harris signature bass guitar and they call for 110-50 gauge. So I got the same size strings as the Steve Harris signatures. I got DR highbeams 110-50. So I don’t have to tweak the neck
      because it calls for those type of strings and size, man. Do they sound great on this Steve Harris bass now there’s so much more attack to it. I highly recommending getting round wounds for a Steve Harris signature bass because the pick ups are also Massive.

    How do you feel about lo-riders? I usually like hi beams on my p-bass and lo riders on my jazz

    Do you use a special pickup in your P Bass or is it the stock one?

      @@PaulDelBelloYTDo you ever cover how to setup your bass? Your bass has such a juicy growl! As a fellow P player, I’d love to know how you get that without buzzing! 🤘🏼

    • @Unlocked985
      @Unlocked985 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No man there is plenty of buzzz on his bass you can’t get rid of buzz it depends on how much or how less you want the buzz bass buzz is very tasteful if setup correctly don’t think you can’t get buzz cause if that’s the case the string can’t just stay still while plucking that’s zero sound and zero playing

    Paul, I just bought a bass. What's the first thing I should learn?

    • @PaulDelBelloYT
      @PaulDelBelloYT  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'd look for a good tutorial and go for a very easy song you know and you like very much

      Coming from me, I would learn how to tune, get your bass setup, than start from the basics and get yourself a song that you resonate with deeply and leave it doesn’t matter how hard

    As someone who plays all different kinds of rock music I love Pure Blues on my Precision because I can sound however I like with minor adjustments unlike other strings where I feel like I’m “locked in” to a particular tone
    I can go from Peter Hook to Lemmy with these things at the drop of a hat 😂
    (Not to mention their unique feel on the fingers)

      I wouldn’t bother cobalt strings don’t last more than a week this long lasting string is better in my opinion

    I've been playing hi beams, but this makes me want to try out the fat beams.
