On a side note, I just performed this for our yearly solo/ensemble contest, and want to get it perfect to perform it again at the end of June. Do you have any tips or words of wisdom I could use?
you definitely want a bass trombone on the lower part. not only for the low Cs and Bs, but for the valve facility and timbre. it is possible to play the top part on an F attachment tenor, though you might have to rewrite some of the descending scales that get passed off from one part to the other.
You can play the top part with an f trigger, for the bottom one there is a few low b naturals but most can be played if you're range is good enough for a pedal f
