As much as buff armies are unrealistic, I find that having 1 or 2 other operators that synergize really well with the showcased operator (such as showcasing Qiu Bai with Suzuran) actually helps demonstrate the strengths of certain operators. imo judging an operator's individual strength isn't as black or white as it seems since Arknights strategies generally tend to revolve around building teams and exploiting synergies as opposed to individual characters.
@@Khroniclas yea I agree mostly with Yii's points in this video, but I think one of the reasons people use the same stages to showcase operators is to "benchmark", which when done right, can provide more concrete comparisons with other similar operators (think of duo 7-18 with Mountain for example).
@@altocshi The main thing about operator guides/showcases is that a good majority of the people that watch those aren't into the high-end competitive scene of max risk CC hence why a lot of them use the average DPS as a "major thing" they focus on. Kinda like why there's a higher viewcount on AFK strats than actual stage/enemy mechanics. At the end of the day majority of the viewers for any gacha game "guide" are from casuals that don't really care about the "correct" way to rate a unit on whether they are strong or weak.
@@Xedllinyea i agree with you. usually i watch those afk strat or turst farm strat where i can just use a much a little ops and recycleable using auto without much of margin error. if the strategy not fits then usually i tweak it here and there. not many people into high risk CC and also from my experience many casual play this game so not many interested beyond 18 risk inculding myself. also there is something i wonder is, why there any comparision in operator showcase. yii did good also there few channel too that compare it with the same type operator if they really exist and tell the pros and cons but usually...... they dont. arent that the core of playing AK? you can use operator to cover certain role as long its fit and work?

7:30 S7-2 the real best showcase map, it has everything: -Mines (to force any operator to display red damage) -High DEF elites (Shieldguards) -low DEF high RES elites (Sarkaz Fighter) -All the normal enemy weight classes from 0-4 (except 3, no one is weight 3 in chapter 7 but you can park Angelina S3 to make weight 4 into weight 3) -Diagonal pathing to test splitbox interactions -That Arts fountain to check camouflage vs invis and charge defensive charge operators -Enemies running through 1 chokepoint, but also enemies running through different lanes -Space to park ranged ops
It's actually pretty hard to make a not-oversaturated showcases of an operator (especially the niche ones), but its fun optimizing and bringing the operator to light with them doing their job
Siege's S1 produces a much higher number of DPs per second than SilverAsh or Exusiai or Nightingale or even Nearl Alter which gives her one of the highest DPs per second production in the entire game

Nice video Yii! You pretty much summed up why I stopped maintaining my DPS spreadsheet. In the beginning I thought it was good for getting an idea of how much damage an operator does but I realized I could spend the same amount of time learning more about the operator and their application.
Seriously, sometimes they're too sensitive and took anything small as an attack. I love their content but needlessly creating drama out of nothing feels a bit sour.
Only times I can see Average DPS being a thing is for operators with infinite skills like Blaze, Mountain and Thorns, maybe determining which of the 3 to use in a particular situation might be enough for justification, but ops typically offer more than just DPS.
Even then if you were to compare the3 you mentioned I believe Thorns would win everytime because of his range and the fact he can hit aerial enemies. Mountain's S2 offers you an op that doesn't need a medic to stay on the field for the full run for the cost of 10 DP
@@Pomho1812 thorns will leak if there’s waves of higher def enemies + other enemies since he’s single target and two block mountain has lower atk but is aoe, so despite having even more trouble with higher def, he can still handle the occasional trash while he slowly punches bulkier enemies Blaze has 3 block and aoe, which means she suffers the least out of the 3 against high def (plus she has higher atk after skill activation so she can punch through higher armor), while block 3 aoe means she can still handle more trash while killing high def, but no self sustain so she needs a source of healing It’s a bit disingenuous to say thorns will always win
Yes you are, no need to be perfect, just do what you think is the closer you can get to perfection while enjoying making it, thats enough. Also, as a new player, imo your channel has a soul, kinda hard to find arknights channels with one.
I'm pretty sure content creators that use numbers and present graphs in their video like Dreamy and DragonGJY give heavy context about those numbers when presenting in their video. They also don't give unreasonable comparison like the one in 4:13. DPS in proper context is still very good. Arknights is mobile game after all, where most has stats. Arknights is not some anime where an operator can get strong after flashbacks and such or fps where a better gaming chair can make you win the match. It is not obvious because of the large gap but we know that Silverash S3 is stronger than Ayerscarpe S2 (there are more close comparison where DPS really helps) in dealing damage because of the numbers. Of course, there are other things like proper deployment, making sure the operator survive, fighting against enemies that they counter but that's where context comes in.
My professionally trained by an amateur opinion on Arknights balance/operator-usefullness talk is that there are a lot of very casual players who think they know the in-depth details and nuances of mechanics that are pretty complex and varied (they don't)
i was not expecting a new video at 2:40am, but a welcome surprise nonetheless Also a valid point on showcases being too similar and repetitive. I'd like to see more IS2/IS3 showcases to show how well of a pick an operator is at the start of a run since I've become more interested in those modes rather than the main game. Sure, the relics can skew a showcase if you're trying to show off how well they can do, and they even go into runs capped at E1 without certain squads bringing them up to E2 for free, but at the end of the day I just want to know if I can have a wacky time with the operator.
I remember a comment from a Flametail showcase video of somebody just trashing on her because there are Saga and Bagpipes. Essentially he just said that Flametail dps and dodge mean nothing when compare to Saga and Bagpipes.
Does it not occur to these people that the reason someone may not be using ops like Saga or Bagpipe is because they might not actually have them in the first place?
While I agree with most of the points on showcases, there's 2 things I want to mention. Liskarm SP batterying is kind of a double edged sword. While it makes the showcase video feel less honest on how much downtime an op has, it's also a totally valid strategy that can get big results. As long as the showcase doesn't go poggy woggy with SP batterying (looking at Fiammetta s2 showcases), it's not really a misrepresentation of the unit to any major extent. "Not repeating the same stages over and over again" is completely valid, although it never bothered me that much. Some stages are just built like showcase stages and can be easily figured out with a new op. It can also give viewers a way to compare units by comparing how well the op clears compared to other ops who have done the same stage. Another thing, which is more of an excuse, is that finding a unique stage that actually plays to an ops strengths so they don't need excessive support, while also not being too easy, ends up being difficult with how many ops are in the game. It becomes further difficult when you consider how many newer ops fill similar roles, even if only vaguely, reducing the already limited choices.
I personally don't think there is anything wrong with DPS comparison as it can give something comparable information between operators. I do agree though that a **raw** comparison without any of the operator nuances contextualized is disingenuous though. Arknights is a game full of nuances and synergies. What may not work for one operator on one map may work spectacularly with the same operator on another map due to skill timings, etc.. I think what DPS gives is one facet of information and we as players have to use that information as accurately as possible to pick the correct puzzle piece (operator) to solve the problem (kill the enemy). I definitely agree that the standalone analysis without context is very disingenuous and should be avoided. Thank you for the video and content :)

Or a mid level stage with buff army. Many of them is often miss the strong points of the operator on its niche stage but they straightly use it as a dps. Sigh

Feels like people are making "tool showcases", but they keep showing screws, so of course screwdrivers are always looking best and it's kinda awkward to use a hammer there. Would be better to demonstrate a hammer on nails. Or, perhaps, on a crooked nail that got hammered in wrong, to showcase what to do with that double bit at the back of some hammers, to pull that nail out easily. Gives a better idea what the tool's gonna be used for, right? That's not even beginning to talk about using Surt-Saws to just saw it all into pieces.

Feels like people are making "tool showcases", but they keep showing screws, so of course screwdrivers are always looking best and it's kinda awkward to use a hammer there. Would be better to demonstrate a hammer on nails. Or, perhaps, on a crooked nail that got hammered in wrong, to showcase what to do with that double bit at the back of some hammers, to pull that nail out easily. Gives a better idea what the tool's gonna be used for, right?
