Thank you for being honest about these costs.. it is really sad that these costs make it unreasonably expensive for an average guy to run this car, even if he could afford buying it. All the best to you!
Thanks for watching, it’s really a pity that they cost so much to repair as they are great cars, but you do always worry about “what’s next” with a Ferrari.
Thank you for a valuable video to anyone interested in the costs of caring for a 360. Please, please, please update this information after each yearly inspection with the year's problems (and loves).
I agree with that - once they are at a very well maintained level they are great, my last 2 years have been ok on maintenance, but getting it there was painful! Glad you enjoying the 360 they are awesome cars
Very interesting to hear your honest warts and all account of maintaining a 360. I think you did very well to agree the 8k discount on purchase price - especially as your car had 49k miles, and its well known that Ferrari prices are influenced (amongst other factors too) by the mileage ticking over to the next big figure/10,000 miles, which is why some sell them at these landmark mileages. Thank you for posting 🙏👍
Tell me about it, I am hoping it starts calming down now that it is at such a good level of maintenance, but I think it will still need £2-3k a year. I have beeb considering a 570s, so good to hear they are so light on maintenance.
Fantastic video every time I go to buy a 360 I get concerned by possible costs and just been quoted 1200 for a ppi by a well known independent this just just silly
£4k is nothing to really worry about. Compare that to what a newer car will depreciate by annually or what you would spend on finance on an annual basis (eg anything from an M135i to an M5) A well maintained Ferrari at this age will either plateau or possibly appreciate. Enjoy my friend!
I used to try to convince myself of this justification as well. but after 25 years with Ferraris, the maintenance costs as well as time spent either in my garage or in a shop got exhausting to the point where it's honestly not worth it. Even the new ones - why do $400k Ferrari's have interiors with buttons and switches that essentially melt? For the cost of maintenance, you can stay in a new BMW every 3 years and still not spend as much as maintenance.
I’ve put 6k miles on my car since I bought it 8 months ago. I’ve just done the annual maintenance myself at under $100. If you do the work yourself, nothing is super expensive.
Agreed - I tend to do all the work on my classics myself (like my etype and Alfas) but not too much on the Ferrari because “service history” is so important on these cars and potential buyers look for the Ferrari dealer or specialist stamps, so I have been reluctant to break that trend.
You did not do an annual maintenance on any Ferrari for $100. A quart of oil in 2024 is $10-12 and at a minimum you need 6 quarts plus an oil filter, then there's the copper washers for the drain plug, brake fluid and coolant flush and refill, and air filters (usually 2). If you did it yourself it's $750 in product, minimum.
No such thing as a cheap Ferrari. I wonder how many people would put up with such exorbitant running and maintenance costs for any other car? I'm not even sure the enjoyment divining one of these vehicles overcomes the bank balance depreciation. I've also seen a very interesting video from 'owner from new' of a Ferrari with similar exorbitant running costs.
and, critically, drive it more than 1000 miles a year. you have to change the timing belts every three years anyway per ferrari, might as well get some mileage out of it.
Agreed - I plan on using it a bit more now that it’s sorted and running so well. I have a world class problem with so many classic I struggle to drive them all enough, but I figure 1k use per year in most is better than some standing not being used at all and others getting a bit more mileage.
Hi @rc classic garage! Great video! I have a question - please - maybe yourself or others may be able to help. I need to move this car fluently around the Greek islands using the ferries - how much ground clearance/tolerance is there - if you've used ferries before, will the front bumper scuff on the ramps? Any thoughts or tips welcome. TIA.
Hi Tia, I have very taken my Ferrari on a ferry so not sure what it’s like, the car goes over speed bumps without any issue. Sam from Seenthroughglass took his Ferrari 360 on a ferry in one of his videos. Rohan
Thanks very much l, I used the upgraded Hill Engineering ball joints which as stainless, vs the original plated ball joints which have corrosion issues. The Michelins are great and have been very happy with them.
One more question , "Is there any aftermarket, or engineering solutions for a leaky roof on a rainy day"....I've seen some leaky roof videos (360 spider)....and iam wondering if there is a solution such as oversized roof seals 🤔.....much regards
I have covered about 2000 miles in the 3 years, so not enough, but as the issues are now all sorted and I feel it’s really reliable now I will use it a lot more. Catching up all that “delayed maintenance” before my ownership means my initially services were expensive in years 1 but the last two services have not been too bad and it’s now in a really good state.
It’s all really been mostly the ball joints, and they do wear of these 360s (especially with 50k miles on the clock) there is a company called Hill Engineering that makes much better upgraded parts which last alot longer, which I have been put into the car.
The Ferrari F355, and 360 are by far the two worst Ferrari’s ever built. Actually the F355 is the worst. There are multiple reasons, but the main was the Five Valve engine causing many to engines to blow, and many to completely burn. Check the videos on TH-cam on many videos of problems in detail, as many burning up!! Well needless to say, Ferrari returned back to the 4 Valve engine. Actually Ferrari died when Enzo Ferrari passed away.
The issues with the cars catching fire is from cracking of the fuel pump covers. The 3.6 engines are known to last. I’ve got 63k miles on my car and no issues whatsoever
You sound like the Chicken Littles running around yelling about "the sky is falling". I'm sure when you hear about a Porsche 986 you become an expert in the IMS bearing problem which is misunderstood and exaggerated by such experts.

Many more people can afford one if they give up their $6 lattes and other extravagances in life. It's all a tradeoff.

I have a 360. I bought a good example. I’ve spent 1000 pound in the last 3 years. So if you buy a good maintained one you’re safe

Wow, 28k GBP for maintenance over just 5 years!! My 30k mile 2016 McLaren has needed only $2k since I bought it 4 years ago, and it gets driven hard!

manual coupe and be capable of doing mx oneself seems like the way to go.

Did you get the titanium suspension ball joints??.....and how does the Michelin tyres compare with other brands??....... thanks for your video 🏆👍

Hi I am not aware of any and a quick search of the forums did not suggest anything either.
@@rcclassicgarageOk .. thanks 👍...I can start a research journey into that issue 👍
Thanks for the warning - how many miles did you clock up over your 3 years of ownership?
I have covered about 2000 miles in the 3 years, so not enough, but as the issues are now all sorted and I feel it’s really reliable now I will use it a lot more. Wonder why so much suspension work was needed. Was this thing taken off road?!

Did you get the work done done by a Ferrari dealership or independent?
It was done with an independent, the previous owner used a dealership for all his work.
I much did you paid for the engine ECU?
I had my ECU repaired, it had to have a new throttle body driver in the ECU, the repair was about £800
Always buy one with a warranty - sell the car when it expires

I must admit reliability on electronics is not good on the 360, I know it’s 25 years old but always giving problems

You haven't got clue what you're on about!
You sound like the Chicken Littles running around yelling about "the sky is falling". I'm sure when you hear about a Porsche 986 you become an expert in the IMS bearing problem which is misunderstood and exaggerated by such experts.
Soo you tell me italian cars are shit buy a proper german car
Haha - I also have a 1988 Porsche 928 S4 and the maintenance in nowhere near what the Ferrari costs
Well the new lambos are built with Audi Tech and parts so they are more reliable.
