My heavens these Rapido folks are ahead of the curve here. E1 and O1 are fabulous, and the Evolution coaches are also beautiful. Great looking locos and stock. I'd love to have that small prairie! Nothing quite as satisfying as the 3D models you can hold, paint, and watch running.
They've definitely carved out a nice little niche for themselves within the hobby and are creating models to a really high standard. Thanks for watching 😃
I imagine with other locos having either recently arrived or being fairly imminent that the L Class will start to work it's way up the queue. But I agree it's one I'm very excited for too. Thanks for watching 😃
Many thanks to the preview of more exciting Rapido projects. I do like their innovative approach and have a number of the locomotives and rolling stock; jus reviewed by LNER Y7. the new coaches look great and such a terrific idea.
My pleasure! It's really great to see all the work they're putting into each of these new models with all the different projects on the go. The Evolution coaches are look amazing and really have developed on the idea Hattons started with their Genesis range. Thanks for watching 🤩
After longingly looking at Rapido 16XX models from Model Rail for almost a year now, I nabbed two of them while they were marked down about two weeks ago. They've gotten to me and are stunning models. Though I'm not surprised, I've gotten other Rapido models too and, besides two second hand 15XX models with some slight defects, I'm genuinely looking forward to what else Rapido brings to the hobby
Yeah 16XX is a great little model. I've got one myself and it's a beautiful little runner. Rapido UK have only gotten stronger as they've worked on more releases and it's great to see them going from strength to strength. Thanks for watching 😃
Never say never with Rapido and they have scaled down some of their projects in the past. But obviously the N Gauge market is considerably smaller than 00 which has to be taken into account. Thanks for watching 😃
They DO use regular NEM pockets. The vast majority of their locos and rolling stock use the standard NEM 362 design which is the box pocket most people know. On models where space is limited or it would compromise the accuracy of the model then the NEM 363 pocket is used instead. This can still be used with other couplings or in the instance where a 363 type coupling isn't available, a 362 can be used as an adapter. I don't really understand why this has suddenly become an issue. Thanks for watching 👍
@ do you know if the E1 is a pocket? Doesn’t say on the listing… The warwell doesn’t have the pocket but the Ellis Clark’s one does and then the Y7 came out again no pocket, which is fine but then my tiny Andrew barclays has one, and it’s just a faff when I use kadees personally, from a wider community I know it was pulled up a couple times by another popular TH-camr recently
So to address each point properly: The E1 is a considerably larger loco than the Y7 so will come with a 362 pocket. The 363 pocket is only used when space is tight. My understanding of the Lowmacs is that the Clark version omits some of the detail around the coupling to be able to fit the larger pocket in. I don’t own either version of the wagon myself so this is going off what I’ve been told from independent sources - meaning general modellers and not Rapido/Ellis Clark or anyone else “in the business”. The Barclay has space for the 362 pocket because the loco has more overhang on either side of the wheelbase. If you tried that on the Y7 it would interfere with the wheels/gearing in my opinion. But you can still add 362 pockets to the existing 363 dovetail pocket on the Y7. I’ve just done it now to test it and it took all of 20 seconds. They stick out obviously which is why Rapido opted for the shorter 363 coupling. If you want to use Kadee couplings then that’s a Kadee issue not a Rapido one. The industry has been asking Kadee to make a 363 coupling for a while now but for some reason they still haven’t. Perhaps that’s where people should be directing their attention if it really is that big of an issue. I’m aware of Sam’s recent videos. I find it interesting that he didn’t complain about this on the Loriot or SECR Brakevan - the latter video which he titled “The Greatest Ever Brakevan”. I wonder what’s changed in the last year? Look, obviously I’m biased towards Rapido since I do video work for them. But if this were Accurascale, Hornby, Bachmann, Dapol, etc I’d be saying the same thing. I really don’t think this is as big an issue as one reviewer is making it out to be. As always I’d recommend viewers look at multiple reviews when making a decision. Everyone has a bias and a video complaining about generally gets more engagement, which is often why things are hyped up more for social media.
@ thanks for the reply, I didn’t mean to course offence but seems like I hit a nerve… apologies. I know you have that great relationship with Rapido which is why I asked in case you did (which you do) know something I didn’t especially being able to get hands on with the E1… you’re also much friendly and engaging that most on social media, I have an E1 on the way and was wondering if I’d need to get creative or if the pocket was there I totally agree it’s a kadee problem but even other couplings like hunt I don’t think do a 363 to my knowledge, but that may just be a British thing as it doesn’t seem overly common, or might even be a me thing not being overly educated on the subject I also agree bad news gets more attention than good news, I love the reviews Sam does as he generally gets right into the detail of what he’s reviewing but some of his views are skewed and certain in favour and out of favour get different criticism accordingly, I try to watch as many reviews as I can before I by stuff, but dodging the overly subsidised ones that have to stay on a manufacturers good side and the overly grumpy ones who moan about everything is tough, why I watch yours and Chadwick for abit of light hearted reality, Again apologies didn’t mean to upset anyone, just wanted to probe your hands on knowledge!
No offence caused here. I just wanted to address each of your queries properly rather than fobb you off with some generic response - my own apologies if I came off a bit blunt 😅 Again with the Hunt Couplings, considering they have so many available variations I do wonder why they don't have a 363 version. I would think it would be incredibly easy given that most of their couplings are 3D Printed anyway. I do find it frustrating when some reviewers criticise models without giving the full story - as we’ve seen with the NEM 363 being branded as non-standard. Sam is very consistent in the way he films and tests models which is great for customers. He gets a lot of flack for running on the carpet but personally I see this as a worst case scenario - if a model works there it’ll probably be fine on a more typical layout. Where he’s less consistent is with his opinions.. which is fine, he’s allowed to change his mind. But there has been a few cases recently where it seems to flip video by video. It becomes more problematic though when fans get whipped up into a frenzy about fairly minor issues that are subsequently blown out of proportion. As I said, the engagement is great for the creator but I’ve spoken to several manufacturers and retailers who have had to deal with the consequences (often unfairly in my opinion). Personally if I have an issue with a model I want to give the manufacturer a chance to respond and put it right first. I don’t like the idea of jumping straight to social media to criticise something that is often easily solved even if it would earn me more views/engagement/money/etc. I actually have a review that I’m holding onto at the moment while I wait for a manufacturer to send out a spare part… it also gives me the opportunity to comment on their customer service which is useful for everyone. At the end of the day I recognise that there are people behind all of these models and they don’t do things deliberately just to make our lives difficult. Often things like this have been discussed at great length and the manufacturer has taken the course of action it feels to be the best. There always has to be a compromise somewhere though and you can never make everyone happy.
From what I've seen of the J13/J52 so far it's looking pretty impressive. These first running samples are really nice and smooth. Yes the Jones Goods are on the way, due very soon apparently (although subject to usual delays) which is why there's no progress to report. Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks for this excellent and informative update video.😀 With all the new models they have coming out Rapido are certainly living up to their name - they're in over-drive!😁 Currently I have three pre-orders with them: 1) A Jones Goods. All the liveries look fantastic, but budget limitations meant I had to pick just one and went for the yellow 1960s livery, simply because it's s bit different and I don't have any yellow locos, unless you count the Terrier in improved engine green. 2 & 3) Two O1s. One in the gorgeous SECR green and the other in the stunning Bluebell livery. I have to admit I'm tempted by several of their other offerings too: The J52, MR483, E1 and especially the Evolution coaches. My only complaint about all these releases is the battering to my poor wallet.😬 N.B. On the subject of evolution coaches I'm a bit surprised that Rapdio (or anyone else) didn't buy Hattons Genesis coach tooling. It would have complemented the Evolutions and new pre-grouping locos superbly. And based on the insane prices they're now selling for on Ebay, more even than a new an unlit Bachmnann LNWR coach in some cases - So there's certainly a demand. It's a real shame nobody's taken on the genesis tooling as they're lovely models. I was wondering with your contacts if you have any idea why not?
The Genesis tooling has been taken on by someone and we will be seeing more of that range in the future... I imagine all will be revealed in good time. Meanwhile the original designer for Genesis now works for Rapido and was the driving force behind the Evolution range. Thanks for watching 😃
They really are knocking it out of the park at the moment. Even if I wasn't working on their video content I think they'd definitely be my favourite manufacturer currently as every new model they announce really peaks my interest. Thanks for watching 😃
I am here in America need to win lottery so I can afford to send for those N scale and would like to get into the TT120 also. Rapido UK is hitting it out of the park with all their turning out. Thanks for sharing. GOD BLESS 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕
I have just had confirmation from Rapido that the stay alive is indeed fitted to all models. The only difference between the Sound and Non-Sound versions is the decoder. Obviously the stay alive won't function on DC but if you fit your own decoder afterwards (with or without sound) then you should be able to use the stay alive. Hope that helps 👍
Hey folks, new to the model railway scene-must be 30 years since I used to build with my grandad!- just wanting to know, are these radio controlled and not powered track? And does 32-45mm wheel adjustment fit 00 gauge?
Hi there, welcome to the channel! All the models shown in this video are track powered - that's pretty much the standard for most model railways. 32-45mm gauge is considerably larger than 00 gauge - it's more of a garden railway scale to be honest as seen here: th-cam.com/video/pQmkx5UTnZo/w-d-xo.html That said, out in the garden a lot of people do tend to use radio control to avoid having to clean the outdoor track. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I'm in Canada and my layout is European. More French rolling stock has been available in the last few years from Arnold and Ree Models so there must be a demand for it.
I showed off the first running samples in my previous video a couple of months ago: th-cam.com/video/8q2MPeCinM0/w-d-xo.html Currently there's nothing new to share on that project, when there is I'm sure Rapido will want everyone to know. Thanks for watching 👍

Thanks. Good to see an update on the LBSCR E1.
Glad you enjoyed it, the sound file for the E1 was hot off the press! Thanks for watching 😃
Great video, thanks for the update. Really looking forward to the Manning Wardle L class. So looking forward to seeing the updates for that project.
