Hi, can you please tell in context of canadian investment banks and private equity firms, about their compensation and which universities to target to break into finance roles in canada ????🤔🤔🤔
The Canadian investment banking industry is quite small compared to the US. Other than the bulge bracket banks, the IB industry in Canada is dominated by domestic banks: BMO, CIBC, National Bank, RBC, Scotiabank, TD. Much of the recruiting happens at the undergrad level. Location wise, the action happens in Toronto. So any bschool that can get you closer to the action will be good.
I am interested in pursuing full time one year MBA from some renowned B schools. To give you my brief background, I have a total of close to 13 years of work experience and additional 2 years of Mtech from IIT Madras. I have a diverse industry experience to name a few EPC(Engineering, procurement and construction), oil and gas service provider, Tech education, Agriculture equipment manufacturer and currently working for one of the IT service industry as a Data Scientist. I have always been an individual contributor throughout my career till now. I have gone through one of your article on MBA at different stages of life and was really insightful where you mentioned about pursuing executive education for a profile that is similar to me, however I request you to help me understand about pros and cons about MBA at this stage of life specifically executive course(1year) but full time. It will be really helpful if we can have a discussion.
It does get trickier to get an MBA after 30. The odds of making a complete career transition goes down, since most employers will reward the pre-MBA experience more. If you've never led a team before, the question that can come up is: How did the MBA help in building leadership skills. Here's more on the topic: www.mbacrystalball.com/blog/2012/11/13/mba-age-over-30-too-old-for-bschool/

Are there any international MBA related topics for which you'd like to see more coverage? Anything that's high on your list of priorities but not talked about on other channels?
Does having professional finance certifications like CFA/FRM helps in getting into a top B-schools in US? And what are the criterias for getting a scholarship in one, being from India?
Are all Phd degrees stem designated or is there a different system altogether for it? Plus, are academic careers in the US paid well in comparison to MBA in the US?
1. No, all PhD degrees are not STEM designated. Consider for example, a doctorate in a fine arts topic. This wouldn't be remotely connected to STEM. 2. Academic careers in the US can pay well...but only at the top. For the rest, it's the same story as with regular jobs - with competition and brand playing a big role in the competition. In comparison, MBA grads on an average would do better since there are more high-paying MBA jobs on offer than high-paying academic jobs.

The top tier schools may be more rigid than the lower ranking ones in terms of how they look at career breaks. 30-31 is not too late. But the number of options are limited. You may have seen our video on Second MBA. If not check it out. Do you have a specific regional preference where you want to study for a second MBA? What post-MBA role do you plan to target?
They are both excellent options for professionals who also value their work-life balance. You'll get much more time than others who are working in front-office investment banking roles. The flip side is that you won't be making as much money, as those finance jobs generally don't feature in videos like this.
I’d like to know what is better in the job market and knowledge at the same time if you can help. Esade has a cems program (mim) but to take it I have to take a degree in masters after finishing i’ll be attending cems. At London business school they offer only one degree which mim . So i’d like to know which one is better and what will companies look at?
LBS is a far more global brand than ESADE. That branding trickles down into not only its flagship program (i.e. MBA), but also the other programs such as MiM. The other big advantage is its location - which gives LBS students access to all the opportunities London has to offer.
LBS wins if you're comparing brands. But for specialised masters focusing on entrepreneurship, you should also look beyond the brand and see what each program is offering, that will help you in your career goals. Otherwise, it'll just end up being an apple to orange comparison.
A few quick questions to understand the context better. - What were your original reasons to apply to these programs? - What's your post MBA goal? - What's your GMAT score? - Which other programs did you apply to?
