Perfect video....my '95 did this to me last Thursday and I've never had a clutch system like this. Took me hardly no time to rectify the issue thanks to you. Much appreciated 👍👍👍
Great video! Just bought my first Jeep this weekend. 1987 YJ. :) The most work I have ever done on my own vehicle was change the oil. I ordered my master cylinder today and i will be changing it tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. ;) Thanks again for a very informative video. Just like the others...keep those YJ videos coming.
I have a 95 YJ and guess what....no bleeding port. According to the FSM you have to replace the master & slave at the same time! Now I've got to remove the new master and reorder! Not your fault....my fault for assuming all YJ 2.5L were the same. Thanks for posting video.
I watched another video with the TJ and the TJ looks like it has the same slave cylinder as the 94 and 95 YJ. The guy bled the system by removing the slave from the bell housing and depressing the actuator so it pushed air back out of the master/reservoir.
Great video! Although it's not great advice to just add more. It may get you out of a jam, but clutches are closed systems. If you have to add fluid, you have a leak that needs to be fixed.
If you had any of the fluid from the clutch master cylinder leaking out... CHECK THE HARNESS CONNECTOR THRU THE FIREWALL BENEATH IT! The brake fluid attacks that hard plastic and it just disintegrates after a while... Nice job, Jeep engineers! Well thought out!
looked up you're video cause mine just gave out while taking my daughter to the store. waiting for the wife to bring me a new one to put on in Sam's club parking lot. fun times lol
I just got a yj and my clutch did the same thing I didn't know what was wrong with it almost put a new clutch in thanks for the video saved me some money haha
I did the same thing on my little Honda. But years ago I had a 1958 ford truck and didn't understand the eccentric bolt on the push rod. Learned to pump up my brakes.
Thanks, great information, I would like to see how to install the clutch master that has the hose already attached to the master from the parts store. Where and how would you attached the other end, and what to watch out for.
Thanks very much for answering me. I'm very frustrated. Yes the reservoir is always full. Should I keep the cap on or off reservoir? Most of the time the level doesn't change, a few time it did. Every time I get a very small restriction in the pedal, then try to bleed it acts like it's going to work, but soon as I open the bleeder screw I get fluid and pressure, then tighten the bleeder screw before the fluid stops coming out, when she raises and pumps the pedal were back to NO restriction at all????
Hi question when bleeding the air from the clutch are you opening it up when your dad pushes down on the clutch and closing g it when he releases? It’s hard to tell by the video if you leave it open the whole time or close and open it. Thank you in advance
I just changed mine on a 1995 wrangler,,all the same except I have NO bleeder?? I just pumped the pedal until all the air bubbles quit and it seems to work fine. Did they make any with No bleeder or did it break off??? Although I dont see wherre it even could have been??
were you were bleeding it is the second master cylinder, on my 1987 YJ you have to drop the transmission to get to it. after 87 the second master cylinder can be removed from the out side of the bell housing.
@@bleepinjeep Ha! CJ wasn’t my first car but first jeep. Knew nothing about mechanics when I started, now I’m a mechanic. Go figure. Had to do a motor swap in the first year! There’s one way to learn everything lol
How much free play should the clutch pedal have? I have about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch of play before I feel pressure. Also how high should the clutch grab? Mine grabs right about inline with the brake pedal, when you push on the brake pedal. Thank you
Jeeps tend to have a bit of play in the clutch pedal before you start doing anything, you can take a peak underneath and you'll see the bushing that your clutch pedal uses is just worn out so it can wobble around before engaging the master cylinder.
Tyler, I have just replaced my Clutch Master Cylinder as per your video. It was a snap, thanks. But I have a major problem. I can’t get the system bleed. I thought it was a bad part so I took it back and got a new one. I installed it and filled the clutch reservoir up, pressed on the clutch had small amount resistance about ½ way down. I got a friend to press on the clutch down while I opened the bleeder fitting, It push out fluid with pressure. While the pedal was on the floor I tighten the bleed fitting up and ask her to pump the pedal and she said there is no more pressure? Tried this a dozen times, can’t get pressure?? Please help. Thanks
Hey Doug, the first thing I would check is that the reservoir up under the hood is staying full enough when she pumps the pedal. This takes a third person, but if she's depressing the pedal all the way to the floor, it pulls a lot of fluid out of the reservoir. Then when she releases the pedal, it may be pulling air back into the system, basically putting you back to square one. Have a third person keep an eye on the master cylinder reservoir and pour brake fluid into it if it's getting low during the bleeding process. I hope that's the solution to your problem, but let me know. Thanks!
Thanks very much for the reply, I did as you stated and still no clutch pressure at all (none). What I did do was top off (1/8") the brake reservoir and go home for 2 days, came back to work on the problem again, and behold I had full pedal. pressure just letting it sit. Why wouldn't it bleed when using the pedal pressure??? Again thanks for your reply.
@@dougharlow6037 i am having the same problem now. I am going to follow what you did, hopefully this helps me otherwise i think i’ll just replace the whole thing. If there is anything else you did to fix this please let me know. Thank you
mine works but when it gets hot out side theres friction and it causes this annoying squeaking. and apparently I'm the only person in existence to have this issue
Hey man, I know you made this video 3 years ago, but you just saved my jeeps life!!!!
You are the first person to correctly detail how to bleed the clutch. Thanks so much!
+Joseph McUmber You bet, thanks for watching
just got done replacing this on my 1990 after watching this video. can't thank you enough for making this. You were spot on brother. thank you. John S

There IS a bleeding port or bench bleeding wouldn’t happen either Lol
I know this is old but the slave cylinder should also have a roll pin.
I watched another video with the TJ and the TJ looks like it has the same slave cylinder as the 94 and 95 YJ. The guy bled the system by removing the slave from the bell housing and depressing the actuator so it pushed air back out of the master/reservoir.
now if you could show us how to change out the clutch, fly wheel, and slave unit and i would be golden!!!!

Very good basic info that gets the job done.
thank you so much very informative, ill be doibng this this weekend
Just getting ready to replace mine, with your help..Thanks..
Great video. Did it this weekend on my '89 YJ.
What is everything like in the video? Some people have mentioned dropping the transmission… Definitely don’t want to do that.
Another very informative video from you. Nice purple gloves too, lol.
Would changing out the Master cylinder on a Jeep Comanche be the same process?

you should get the JCR yj rocksliders for your jeep since you said that yours were too heavy.
+Joshua Everett I'd love to but we'll see if they can hook me up. They have really given a lot to support the channel already.
nice does this work for a comanche ? I have an 88 that im doing it at the moment
yes
Hey does Tyler have his own TH-cam Channel now?
Is that a special "O" ring and what size and where to buy. Also is it possible to remove the roll pin before you remove the master?
Good job Budd!! 👍
Bleeping Jeep Rules!!!!!!!!!!!
Some clutch slave cylinder are self bleeding. It doesn't have a bleeder valve.
were you were bleeding it is the second master cylinder, on my 1987 YJ you have to drop the transmission to get to it. after 87 the second master cylinder can be removed from the out side of the bell housing.
A "second" master cylinder is called a slave cylinder. And you had a throw out bearing slave.
Is a Jeep CJ7 a good first car? Thanks and keep up the good videos 🙂

That was VERY helpful!!
When i pour the brake fluid into my cylinder it just leaks everywhere under the cab. Is it due to the clutch fluid line/cylinder?
Bad ass "Keep on Bleeping Jeepin on"
So you don't have a line from your clutch master cylinder down to the transmission? Mine does. It's the 6 cylinder engine, 90 yj.
I have a 93 JY and the bleeder is on the left side and it a 4 banger ? what with that
Quality video!
very helpful thank you.
are you suppose to bleed the system with the resovoir cap off or on?
off she could see the fluid levels
When I go to step on my clutch pedal on my tj it will barely move.i can start the jeep but that's it no shifting into gear.any ideas for a fix.
follow this video?
Lmao you named your Jeep sugar?? Sounds like a strippers name
Love me some yj videos!
lol how do you push the parking brake with that roll bar leg in the way
+Div ' Hand brake?
Rob Belman on YJ's the parking brake is like a 4th pedal all the way to the left
+Div ' You gotta reach around with your toe. That's the easy part...its getting to the release that's a major pain in the butt!
Your brake booster has corrosion too! :)
Cannot find the master and slave connected anywhere send link?
If it's a 93 or older the slave is inside the transmission. mid 94-95s the slave is out side and super easy to replace
