    The way I see it, at this point the game is a blank canvas. Some core mechanics in place, a couple of quests in place that test the water for combat (such as the mini-boss encounter in Act 2), dialogue, npc interactions, environmental interactions. A brief showcase of what boss battles will be like - and believe me , this is where the tileboard layout of the entire world will shine - the movement in the game is extremely responsive and it will lead for very engaging gameplay, much more so than OSRS and RS3 can offer.
    What made RS great was Gower brother's imagination and ability to tell light hearted stories in an engaging way, for people to make their adventure through Gilenor.
    People should remember this is an alpha build. It is barebones, because this is what alpha builds are. Am I enjoying the grind in game all the time? No. Am I subscribed and do I have the full intention to be part of the journey? F*ck yeah!
    For me Brighter Shores has the potential to be a "what if" D&D and Runescape got together and had a crazy one night stand.

    what iv noticed is that the armor is more important than your lv itsself your combat lvs only effect your health. and once you get to ep 3-4 you can make your own armor and it makes any argument of the combats being separate silly tbh.

    Thank you for this video. I really like the episode system. Total level 473 right now. Really enjoying the game. Trying to finish all the quests before player to player trading and next episodes are released

    I don't mind the reset per episode at all, I just hate how hard it is to make sure that I'm only selling the gear that I intend to sell. When I first transitioned to episode 2, it was a nightmare trying to transition to episode 2 gear, sell episode 2 gear that I didn't want, and NOT sell my episode 1 gear.

    I was under the opinion I would not like the episode re-leveling system. I tried it for my self and I unironically like it, its something fresh and innovative. I am the same as well, I just enjoyed leveling in the new episodes I went to.

    As a game, I think Brighter Shores is good, but it's just not the game that I want to play. And most of the things I don't want to play are because of core design. I don't like the rooms being their own separate area, I don't like that nodes automatically upgrade as I level up, and I don't like how things are locked off with episodes. They aren't badly made systems, I just do not enjoy enjoy them.
    There are systems I like, such as combat, but I just can't get on board with the rest. I'll still get on every now and again to check it out, it's a nice relaxing game to de-stress with.
    I hope it does well and finds it's style and a bunch of players. I think we need more games like this to play, and even if Brighter Shores isn't the massive game that so many want it to be, it is nice to see it on the market.
    Edit: I am happy you brought up how the game currently has a "small" amount of content right now and that Runescape was the same way. I think the way Brighter Shores is going about doing their content (and RS) is the best way to go about it. I really enjoy the solid release of a small core that gets built on top of over the massive game that gets dropped at the beginning

    i really do hope the each combat skill has a unqiue gimmick in the future to make them feel different from each other.

    • @boandonoff4026

      I think the combat skills in the game have potential to be really good narrative devices. Like - Town gets attacked, who do you call ? The Scout? Nope - the Guard . Issues in the woods? Get the scout in. This then creates a nice base for narrative. Kind of like complaining that when you level Ranged in RS you also have to level Magic from 1 to 99 again.
      There just need to be a few niggles thrown to intertwine the acts better, but the game is still in it's infancy and I'm sure it will happen as the game develops. Makes more sense attuning gear to a profession rather than a region, then giving the ability for each profession to have usefulness in each chapter.
      Really hard to talk about combat when the class skills aren't even implemented, so classes are now more or less how do you look as you swing your stick at X mob.🤣

    I'm not content creator, between day 1 and 2 of release almost every video i see people where complaining about the same issue you just explained and it blew my mind because literally the game just came out if you know Andrew he is very quick and very active to update his game this is a passion project for him as he stated multiple times. if i where to make a video i would have said the same exact things you have said here. the game will be in early access for the next 6 months at least he's taking feedback and updating accordingly the game will only get better now.
    AND WHO KNOWS? MAYBE THERE MIGHT BE A RUNESCAPE CLASSIC TO RUNESCAPE 2 OVERHAUL IN A FEW YEARS LOL, but honestly i love the design and the way the game currently is i don't think we need a graphical overhaul

    I enjoy the game while still finding many of the critiques valid, but simply saying the design choices are terrible like a lot of critical people are saying isn't how to approach it. The rationale for the episode system is good, but the problem is the current implementation is lacking to show that it is in fact a good design choice. The fact that it takes so long for you to reach the point where you get a substantial amount of intertwining of professions at present, and the lack of transference of combat professions are the two biggest pain points in my opinion. There should be more early on in the game that allows for episode 1 and 2 to overlap, as you don't really see the overlap the episodes have until you make it to episode 3. As for combat, the main reason behind it is avoiding powercreep and keeping everyone on an even playing field when new content drops, which on paper is good, but fully resetting for new areas and enemies definitely just doesn't feel good for the individual player. In my opinion a good remedy for that would be giving an xp bonus to a combat profession that's lower than your highest (ie. if Guard is 50, all others get a big boost to xp gains until they reach 50). That way, players would still have to start fresh every episode, but if they spent a long time grinding one combat profession very high, some of that skill would carry over and make future combat leveling a bit less grindy. You would still have a grind from level 0 to do, which keeps the spirit of the episodic system and prevents powercreep with new content, but long term is more rewarding for the player to invest in.

    Great points and totally agree. On a side note, I can't believe rs on release only had varrock and lumby 😮
    I started rs2 in 2004 so I am so glad to be here at BS on day one to experience the journey just as you described for RS classic.

    My only complaint with a new combat to level every episode is having to rebuild my gear each time. Just made it to episode 3 and staring over. I had horrible luck getting good drops in the first two episodes

      @jax775 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It won't be so bad when there is more time between area expansions. I like to think of them like area specific slayer levels rather than a combat class.
      Also once you get into episode 3 you start making gear and can bring new gear to new areas.

    • @neppity5887
      @neppity5887 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think this issue would be largely solved by giving players a full set of gear when unlocking each new episode to remove that sense of feeling like you have nothing on despite having your previous gear equipped.

    I might not be understanding it well then. Are chapters not resets in a way? Can you still use your combat experience you acquired on chapter 1 in 2?

    • @SpicySharp
      @SpicySharp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Each chapter has its own set of skills you level. Including combat.

    • @bladeintrin6
      @bladeintrin6 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also the non combat skills require each chapters help, for example ch 3 has bonewright a skill where u make armor from bones and types of wood which you can get all these items in chapter 2 while doing gatherer skill and woodcutting skill

    • @bladeintrin6
      @bladeintrin6 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Skills don't become useless when you hit a new chapter you just pretty much get a new combat skill to work on in that chapter

    • @johnnobon
      @johnnobon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It feels like a reset but it's not. You level up your combat skill in the first zone, called the guard profession. You never lose your guard profession level, you keep it forever. But when you get to the second zone you don't *use* the guard profession in that zone. You get a new skill that you level up for that zone. The reason it feels like a reset is because the new skill, scouting, feels just like the guard skill. There are other skills that similarly just feel like a cline of each other like foraging vs gathering. Others feel distinct.
      The reason why it's not actually a reset is you will still need to go back to zone 1 and your skills are all still there. Zone 1 is not obsolete once you unlock more zones and there interaction between them. For example you can use your gather skill in zone 2 to collect items for potion making in zone 1.
      It isn't perfect though and they should do more to make each profession feel more distinct, especially the combat ones. If the zone 2 weapons, armor, and animation at least looked different that would help quite a bit imo

    • @loganrogers4560
      @loganrogers4560 หลายเดือนก่อน

      chapters are just areas. You'll unlock all areas within the first 10 hours of gameplay. Each area has the facilities to train three unique skills. Technically each area has four skills but combat is a reskin so you'll probably just pick your favorite zone and focus on combat there. All the crafting and gathering skills are truly unique and interact with each other in a way similar to OSRS.
      I imagine, or at least I hope there is some major update to the way combat skills work. If not this is going to be the better game for skillers to play while OSRS will be better for combat players.
      Also keep in mind half of internet interactions aren't normal people. There are bots and advertisements, people are paid to both support the game and not so take everything with a grain of salt and play it yourself, make up your own mind.

    am I the only one that this feels like an endless grind? before bashing me: I played Ultimate Online since day one so I am used to grinding, but this just seems "mindless" grinding? Like a series of (mobile) mini games? I also find it VERY immersion breaking that the same tree (or resource) just magically changed from lvl 1 to lvl 20. My biggest problem is immersion in this game.

    I can’t stand the episodic division of the game. I want to be able to use my skills all throughout the game, like combat. I don’t want to go from lvl 100 combat to lvl 1 just because I entered a new zone.

      That's really what you do anyway as soon as you enter a new higher zone in other games. Your high level armor and weapons get instantly replaced. It's just more obvious in this game. It's just an illusion that something different is happening.

    I like brighter shores for skilling, but the skills feel too similar in many cases.
    I understand that you are hyped about the game, but im not sure yet if i can share that sentiment.
    I am not even sure if the game will survive yet. It is still pretty flawed.
    It has potential, but it is very flawed.

    I played this game for an hour. That was enough for me to determine it just wasn't fun. It doesn't respect my time and the game loop is just boring. I'm forced to get a total level of 60 to move on with skills I just don't like except alchemy. It was involved and it gave me potions and buffs. Cooking was a steaming pile of **** with no purpose other than completing tasks and making money i had little use for, fishing was click fish here then click fish here then go back to where your started and click fish here and you're limited by spawn timers. Which is exactly like foraging... with seemingly longer timers. Combat was a joke and you had to fight other players over spawns. Is it lack of quality of life im feeling? Maybe??? But it is not fun. I have no desire to pour any more of my time into this nonsense. It's not "silly" it's disrespectful to my time and I'll simply move on 🤷‍♀️. I do really want to like this game. I was excited for it, it's simply just not good. My hope is that future released content will change it for the better and i hope it doesn't take 20 years.

      I don't get it because you can semi afk. It doesn't time gate any content you can choose when to play without the game pushing you to play. It definitely respects your time. You get what you put into.

      You played it for an hour and have no idea how's the first area even fully looks. Ot how the systems interact. The game is literally in alpha 7 days after release. When RS first released at the same point in its life the highest combat monster was the black knight at level 33. Let the game cook and actually fully release. You just sound silly saying "yeah one hour that's enough it's not worth.

      @kalebmussell5823 you sound like an asshole. I'm entitled to my opinion 🤷 this isn't runescape and it's not what 20 years ago when games could release like that and ppl ate pieces of shit left and right.
