What is negative space in an abstract painting?

I think I just wanted to create something that felt a little less busy. With a lot of my pieces, I struggle to know when to stop and create something that's pretty full. So with these, I was pleased I was able to be more restrained and have some white space whilst still having the colour and interest :)
