Loved this game. Every bit of it. Even the late game turn into a more linear structure. Story, characters, soundtrack, gameplay. Had a blast with it and it’s stuck with me for years.
It really is a magical game , thinking about it on a weekly basis.
I love the duscae area so much
Final Fantasy 10 was an entirely linear game and it was in my opinion the best game in the franchise, final fantasy has always been about story telling, not scale.
That said, the linear structure of the games ending is largely symptomatic of it’s rushed release, which is a wild statement considering that this game had been in development as FF Versus 13 for half a decade before being rebranded as FFXV and then taking another half decade of development time. It was just mind blowing, and perhaps Square was being too ambitious with this game. Whatever the case was, it was wild to see a game which had been in development for over a decade released in such an unfinished state.
And square recognized this fact, hence their effort fix the issues by releasing several content patches, DLC episodes, and extended media
The linear section was the best part of this game
Final Fantasy XV turns 7 years old today 🥳🎉
I still remember my older sister having to buy me this game because it was a school day for me. I was 16 (I'm 24 now which is crazy), still in high school, but for months I was so excited to play it on day 1. For the next few months, it was the only game I played because I was so addicted to it. The story, the characters, the ost, the fandom on youtube, it was all great. By the time I got to the last scene, with Noctis giving his speech to his friends around the campfire, I couldn't help but cry a bit. This game was so touching and pure with showing how good friendships should be. I remember a youtuber I watched playing this said that it reminded her of FF X. She said that she was in highschool when that game came out, but was lonely with no friends. She saw Tidus, Yuna, and everyone else as her friends. I thought that was cute and I definitely felt the same way here. I had friends at the time, but they were toxic compared to how genuine Noctis and his crew were. It helped me take a good look at my "friends" and distance myself. But yeah.. as soon as you play the first scene, with everyone pushing the car and "Stand by me" plays, you just know it's gonna be good.
That's awesome! JRPGs can teach a lot about life
Problem this game had was being released literally unfinished. And it took 2 years to get royal editon which finally truly finished the game. Still you had to watch the movie kingsglaive for the game to make ALOT more sense.
Probably one of my favorite games ever
FFXV is great. I find it in between FF16 and FF7 remake as far as combat goes. I liked XVs combat better than 7 remakes. But 16s is better than both. But yes im sure 15 years from now XV will still be enjoyable
It makes me so sad to see this game not get enough love, i get why people may not like it, especially people expecting turn-based but its honestly so enjoyable to play and i love this game so much
As someone who anticipated this game nearly 10 years before it’s release, back when it was being developed as FF versus 13, and played the game on launch day, I can wholeheartedly say that I did not anticipate this game to be turn based, and yet I was left disappointed. Not because it was action combat, in fact I had hoped it would be action combat from the early stage gameplay we were shown before the game got rebranded.
I was disappointed because the story was heavily disjointed, and this is evidenced by the fact that square felt they needed to release an animated series, a pre-launch narrative demo, multiple episodes of DLC which served to fill the gaps in the story, and even after all of that they continued to patch the game to additions the story.
The game wasn’t criticized because it wasn’t turn based, it was criticized because it was unfinished, and square recognized this and put in the work to remedy it.
The first platinum I ever got on Ps4. I literally converted every last square inch of this game
After I finished FF VII Remake and Rebirth, a friend recommended XV to me.
And I have to say that 15 has grown on me even more than any other role I have played.
I love the open world, the combat system (I don't use wait mode), and I don't even need to start with the Regalia.(Typ-D)
And the OST gave me goosebumps.
Especially “Apocalypse Noctis”
When I think of FFVII's graphics, the first thing that always comes to mind is the Midgar wall JPG.
In the 15th everything is “alive” up to the horizon and the day-night cycle also brings dynamism.
And I also particularly like the little things, like Noctis getting dirty from fighting and fishing or his hair no longer looking neat because of the rain.
I also like the dynamic between the guys better.
In the 7th, I'm particularly bothered by the whining and pushy nature of Tifa's character.
The story of 15 is a bit confusing, I don't want to contradict that, but since I know all the media or am close to them, I can understand the connections.
The story of 7 is largely known, but now the changes complicate the story for players who know the original.
As for the linear chapters after leaving Altissia and reaching Insomnia, FF VII Rebirth is no exception.
Nobody complains about that either.
And I really liked that there was an opportunity to go back in time, for example, to take a breather before the journey with the brothers came to an end.
And I really enjoyed doing that again.
Since Zack has been my favorite FFVII character since Crisis Core, I'm of course very excited to see how he fits into the whole story.
All in all, I'm really looking forward to the third part of the 7. But the 15 will probably remain number one for me for the time being.
It's good to see the love people have for FFXV. I love FFXV myself and the gameplay and combat is amazing and alot of fun. FFXVI is a decent game but too much talking and cutscenes.
Literally just finished a playthrough, and unlocked all of my Regalia upgrades and beat atamantoise today. Still good in my book
FF15 is my guilty pleasure , I like it way more than I should, I did enjoy the exploration, and the character growth, But yes the story was not the best, and I found once I got to the last 3rd of the game I just was to rush through it to get to the end. The ending I have mixed feeling about. Again I should care about the climatic ending, but since the story as a whole it like lukewarm milk, it did not pull me in. I will say I think I enjoy the first half of the game, mostly when I pick it up (For windows) we where in the big pajama Party, and I was playing it while there was nothing else to do.
Great review. I wondered if its movie was required watching. This game always interested me with it's buddy system party and the seemingly deep lore.
I really recommend you watch it before playing the game. There is also a 4 part anime on TH-cam that shows the relationship between the four main characters of the game before its story.
You should watch both before playing the game.
why is this video @ 12fps :(
Cuz my capture card sucks
I played Final Fantasy XV for the first time in 2020 with the Royal Edition (all of the dlc included except for Ardyn which I did buy and also enjoyed) and I thought the game was good. It's definitely not the best Final Fantasy game, but it was fun. The open world is not very good, but I did enjoy the cast of characters (specifically the bros), story, music, etc. It's a shame that we will probably never see another Cindy looking character ever again. :\
Oh man, looking forward to hear your thoughts on Final Fantasy VI. That's one of the best!
Yeah, pretty girls are forbidden these days.
What a stupid world.
This game made me cry like heavy raining
I am playing it now I’m at the end. I been wanting to play it for years even before the release years ago. Finally had some free time and stopped putting it off, didn’t have a ps4 and I’m borrowing my younger brothers
What did you think of it?
Amazing, as an adult it's pretty hard to have free time
@@jkn2k yeah it is but since I did I said well let’s play this now
@@rpg_haven I loved it in the beginning it gave me old school final fantasy 8 and 10 nostalgia. The story was straight forward on the clash between two empires and the love story. Ig wasn’t long either but a sad chilling ending and different than my play-through of 10 (which I beat and finished) and 8 (never beat or finished) years ago. Glad I finally got to play.
@@rpg_haven ** it
It's super fun now with all the DLC's and Royal content. I have played it more than 5 times and the battles and the dynamic between the 4 boys it's like nothing ever seen on the franchise.
You can add some difficulty by playing being lvl 1, not using Armiger Unleashed for the final battles or not using items. The music is top 5 in the ff saga and the world still feels super fresh to explore.
Even now I recently finished FF7R twice, the graphics of XV still look good in 2024, so yes everyone should give it a try
The ability to play music from any game in the franchise was very appreciated, ff13 always had one of my favorite soundtracks and it was great bumping that soundtrack in 15
Love the wide open world and bromance, but I soon got bored by the busywork and dull combat. Great OST though
Done with it took me 6 years to get in but damn what a game despite all it's flaws
Best one in the series for me. And one of the best rpgs with all the mechanics and attention to graphic detail
Just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying your reviews.
Welcome!
Leaving what is possibly the best FF game for last is an awesome choice. I can't wait until FF6 review is released...I've been waiting for years! FF 5&6 are my two favorites, so I'm glad you already did that one...but please hurry up with 6, I really would like to hear an opinion of from someone who has actually given the whole series, not just a chance, but a deep dive and now what I would consider an opinion from a FF expert/veteran.
I'm glad you're looking forward to it! Still working my way through FF6 :]
@@rpg_haven hope you're enjoying it...I know I did
I just like how the characters interact with each other and prompto is amazing and I like how its a complete game I feel like ill beat ff16 at like level 40 no reason to grind ya ff15 is the real deal for the old school gamers
Im replaying ff15 after 180hours of ff7 rebirth and ff15 its Another diferent Game from the Game ive played t'he past 7 years, Another Battle mechs, you can now control all characters, new content... T'he time to play ff15 its now
The English VA for this game is excellent
Anticipating the FF6 video, wondering if you will love it or detest it. (Hoping you love it)
I appreciate a southerners take on JRPGs. While I may not agree with you on everything (cough ff4 cough) I like hearing people challenge the things I like. I've seen enough of your videos.
Subscribed.
Played it when it was on ps plus wasn’t so sure if I actually wanted to buy it but hell considering I heard some good things about this game I just decided to get the royal edition since it was on sale and ya I’m loving this game I’ll probably start a ng+ as soon as I finish all the side stuff
You’re in for a treat with FF6. Though it is not my favorite FF game, as that honor goes to FF10, it is a fantastic game and one of the best on the snes.
Ngl, you basically said the "auto attacks" is the whole combat. You can actually end up playing 15 very similarly to 7 Remake. The combat doesn't need to be complicated. It still has good complexity. Imo, the problem with 15 is more that bosses dont really have mechanics
I hated LR's combat, personally .
I actually think late game story missions were actually more interesting, it's that they are too short
Hunts are 15's version of "random battle" grinding and getting items tbh. Also, not sure why you said or thought this, but yes, you still get credit from all hunts, regardless if it's "active". I did it even yesterday
I like that magic is overpowered, but im not into how it was executed: that it makes a weapon slot and the cd is way too long
15 is very much character focused, and i love that. It's a very cozy and comforting game
Once you get a better pc this will be a game changer for you with your recording.
It's a problem with my setup that I've since fixed - thankfully!
Idk if they added it later but you can take multiple hunts at the same time.
I think my issue was that you don't get credit for defeating monsters for a hunt unless you have the hunt selected as your active quest. It's been a while though, so I might be wrong about that
I think like 5 if I’m not mistaken
Did you do something to the video feed? Because my frame rate ain't that bad when I am playing the game, just have been playing it the past week and it ain't that choppy (PS5 if that helps but I played it on PS4 before and it ain't that choppy too.)
Anyways, I legit love FFXV so much more over XVI, i went one and done with XVI, it just didn't have that soul to want me to redo that game...
P:S the interact and jump thing may actually be tied to region specific, over here where I'm at the confirm button is default at O "Asian" whereas in Western regions confirm is usually fixed to "X". Except for the stupid PS5 where I can no longer change it back to "O" 😢
It's a problem with my capture card, sorry about that. I haven't been able to figure it out, think I just need to get a new one.
I hate how Sony forced that button change btw. Japan shouldn't have to capitulate to the West. They built and still dominate the industry.
@@rpg_haven no apologies needed man! I can't and don't even know how to do uploads. Just finished Epi: Prompto (simping maximum for Aranea FR 😍) last night and am looking forward to continuing the base story tonight. I honestly enjoy this one so much more than XVI, other than Luna (shame they did her dirty.) the characters in this game seem to make me feel so much more emotionally attached. The opening of Chapter 10 (the bickering between Glad and Noct) always hit me so emotionally.
@@ErdingerLiThe party interactions are my favorite part of the game for sure
Have you seen any of the trailers for FF15? One of the gameplay trailers shows the boys escaping Insomnia as a gameplay sequence among other things. The issues are very glaringly due to productions troubles which is a shame. Most likely why we have Kingsglaive which is a pretty neat movie, very well animated for sure just kinda pointless. The DLCs for the game are interesting too but provide sequences that should have been in the base game except the last DLC for obvious reasons.
Atleast the devs knew what to prioritize and that is brotherhood between the main 4. They aren't always on the same page and they all have their struggles but it is great they all come together and uplift eachother. Definitely the strongest element of the game for sure.
This has been sitting in my steam library unplayed. Hope to get to it one day.
If your gpu is above 3060 ti this game is 100% worth playing on pc. This game was so ahead of its time and is massively underrated. The poor execution of releasing this game unfinished, and how they separated the premise of how the story was depicted through anime/books/games. However, now that is all fixed and you can play the whole entire game on how it was supposed to be envisioned.
@@Jdroma010 Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I'll add it to my list of games I plan to play.
Why is video so choppy? Good content though.
Thanks for watching. It was a problem with my capture card setup. I got it resolved thankfully, so future videos will be smooth
@@rpg_haven awesome man. Loved the video. Hope for more quality content
why the video seems laggy
It's a problem with my capture card
@@rpg_haven ok thank u sir
It’s time for you to play 16!
If I ever get a PS5 I will
16 is a snooze fest
@@omensoffate I'll be the judge of that. I've enjoyed every mainline Final Fantasy so far 🤷♂
@@rpg_haven respect. Don’t listen to him. He likely never even owned it.
16s combat is so fun there’s no way it’s a snooze fest.
And the story is gripping from very early on.
This game is so much better than FF16 it’s absurd. I was meh on 15, then I played 16. God awful. Came back to 15 and love it much more
I appreciate your take. Hopefully I'll play 16 someday
Saying that ff16 is awful is straight up wrong. Yest it has side quest problems and frame ate isn’t perfect. But the story is incredible and very innovative for a ff game.
Awful? I hope more games were as awful as FF16 then
Ff15 is awful mate. I couldn't bear this game more than 15hours
I don't think FF 15 & FF 16 are worth playing, although FF 15 is way better than FF 16 to a certain extent.
I actually enjoyed Final Fantasy XV a lot. The main issue is that this is an incomplete game. It feels like it's missing a chunk of plot that should have been in the middle of the game.
I did watch both the movie and the anime shorts before playing the game though. So I knew the backstories of the main characters.
One thing I do hate about this game is that it had some DLC that was timed. So there are at least 2 DLCs that are not accessible in the game right now.
There was also a demo were you control Noctis as a kid in somekind of dreamworld with Carbuncle. That's also missing nowdays if you didn't download the demo on PS4 back in the day...
There is also a book, and some canceled DLCs as well.
If they had managed to integrate everything into the game (including the plot of the movie and anime) I think this could have been a masterpiece. Sadly, the end result is very disjunted...
Wow, that's a lot of additional material. It's crazy how Square can't focus. A truly amazing, content-rich FF game could sell 15 million copies
FF15 CAR DRIVING MADE ME A BIT SAD..ITS KIND OF MORE OF A AUTO DRIVING N MANUAL DRIVING INTO ONE..But i would have loved to tear up the offroad in it too.But as i seen u can actually ride these gigantic birds called chokoboo or something there about thats mayby a better thing offroad vs the car for exploration(sadly i wouldnt like to call this a good exploration game its kind of a more n closer Holiday w friends kind of game to some extent atleast
Thanks 4 this video
Ahh yes. Food porn only second to VanillaWare
I really like that he put the “yes” in the thumbnail. I’m still gonna watch the video but too many people that make these videos always put …. Instead of yes or no like it’s going to pique my interest. It doesn’t, it makes them look even more like a corpo advertisement brand instead of a TH-camr which is why I hate this site. Anyways my tangent is done & thanks for the video dude, you’re cool 👌
Thanks man, yeah I'm not trying to waste anyone's time
@@rpg_haven Well I genuinely respect that man, good for you for having integrity. Unfortunately that’s a rare trait these days ESPECIALLY on TH-cam….
Yes. Yes it is.
you can only track one hunt at a time, but you can turn in multiple completed hunts. but yeah, not a big fan of the hunts...
Not being able to track more than one wastes so much time. Hate that
That tier list is questionable af. 12 is S tier? 7 is overrated af and not as good as people claim (keep in mind, it's actually one of my favorites btw). 13 is not A tier above FF10 either, even if 10 isnt that great (simply bc all 10 has IS the msq). 13-2 is kinda better than 13 but also at the sane time not really as you can really tell its a budget game. The time travel areas all looking the same kills immersion and it lacks in creatively. 5 deserves its place
Tbh, B tier should be A tier here and 9 should be in C tier. Both 8, 10, and 13 are actually superior in storytelling than 7 (unless you use the R series). Also is that 2 in A tier!?
That said, like what makes you happy ❤
And a lot of what you described with 15, i do agree. It's flawed, but does it have its charm! It's definitely not the worst, but it can be improved. I would put it much higher. Your video only talks about the "base game" but tbh, the DLC is also the base story and no 15 video should EVER exclude talking about the episodes as its 100% part of the main story. Play all that stuff basically in order and 15 is great. You don't talk about the characters combat at all, you only mentioned Noct's AUTO ATTACKS. My guy, you played RE, how did you NEVER talk about his friends combat or their chapters?? How can you tier 15 without doing that.
Play it again x3
Ff6?
Soon

Ey thank you
Are you playing at 15 fps
Capture card problem, sorry about that
I'm currently playing ff15 on a 1960s black and white 12 inch TV and it still looks better than ur footage bro. Might wanna look into that. Good Content tho man.
That's my bad, it was a problem with my capture card setup. Won't happen in future videos!
You called this game an MMO?
And you’re an RPG guy huh?
🤔
Did I? Drop a timestamp
@@rpg_haven1:03
Im sure you meant ff14, right?
@@TheOGRecipe No, I said it's part of an "MMO-like genre". In one of my earlier videos I talked about this more, but the Xenoblade series, FFXII and FFXV all have big open worlds where you see monsters roaming the field and can fight them in real time without a scene change (that's what makes them similar to MMOs).
This is surprisingly rare for JRPGs, or was until recently anyway-since Genshin Impact it's becoming more common
@@rpg_haven yeah, it just kind of comes off as a poor comparison is all. "MMO-Like" is stretching it far when you can just sum it up to it being a lively open world game. You can say these same things about games like RDR2 or GTA V, but they aren't MMOs. It may make sense to you, but as someone who saw this as the first video i have seen from you, this is just a poor comparison. Hell, Club Penguin was an MMO but i dont remember battling monsters on that site. Hope this makes sense.
incomplete game.
Can you change their names? Noctis? Reallly? Lol
You cannot
No.
